We have "hummers" in Northern California year round, but yours look different. Ours are green with ruby colored heads (I think the they are ruby-throated hummingbirds). Two years ago I had a hummingbird nest outside my window at work. I saw two eggs hatch and two babies emerge over the course of a couple of weeks. It was truly awesome to see such tiny little birds grow up to become beautiful hummingbirds!

i'm placing this into the "scandals and coverups" section for good reason, i think.
a few days ago i had an elder and one of "the anointed" come by to encourage my wife and i to "get back to the meetings before it's too late".
i proceeded to tell him a few of the reasons why i've lost confidence in the elders and the organization, and he retorted with a real- life example of how i need to see that although the "brothers" can make mistakes, it's best to accept it as "jehovah's will" and play along.
To me, this just sounds like another BS "example" they made up in order to "encourage" you. Not that it did that by any means. Either it is a made up story or they don't receite the full example with details.
The greater good is to DO THE RIGHT THING NO MATTER HOW BAD IT MAKES YOUR PAST ACTIONS LOOK!!!!
I totally agree with you. Your statement makes total sense to me because we are no longer under their control. Their minds have been manipulated so much that they cannot comprehend what "doing the right thing" means.

why is today the only day of the year when i feel guilty about having left the jws?
it's memorial day and i didn't go.
my last memorial was in 2006. last year was my first non-attendance.
I can only share with you my experience. First year was hard, second was not as difficult, third I barely gave it a fleeting thought and now my fourth year of not attending, I could really care less. It takes time to undo the programming. However, it has been my experience that things get better with time. I hope next year is less difficult for you.

when i think back, i remember being excited in the 80's.
i remember the 5p food token strips at twickenham, london.
you could get hot fresh doughnuts and burgers.
I remember working in the food service (oh those hoagies, bean burritos and shasta colas!)
I remember having to wait in line at 6:45 a.m. to get a "good" seat and hearing the daily text read before the stampede started.
I used to like the conventions and the interaction with "friends". That being said however, I don't miss them one bit.

Its not something we talk about. Even though there are not very many assets, I do tend to assume that I am no longer in the will. If that is the case, I will just fight the WTS in court myself until there is nothing left for them or me.

i'm new to the forums and just had to say hi, and thank you to all of you who've shared your stories which have let me know finally and for sure that i'm not crazy and nowhere near as abnormal as i've been feeling...well, forever, really, but more so over these last few years!!!

How do you make friends? How do you begin to stick your toe into waters that you're still a bit afraid of
I have had success making friends with people I work with. Perhaps you could start there. Or if you are in to activities (i.e. mountain biking, tennis, cooking, etc.) you could probably find a club to join and you could make friends that way. Just a few thoughts/suggestions.
I know it is not easy making friends cause as a JW you had all the friends you wanted. Away from that atmosphere, I find that being a friend and actually caring about other individuals goes a long way to keeping the friends I have made
