shunning and its effect on the emotional fabric of families

i am very concerned as to what the long term effect of df or ds can be on young children who may be deprived of the love and care of close family members, such as grandparents who may still be loyal jws but whose own married children are dfd.

the modern epidemic of youth rebellion is often traced back to dysfunctionality within the emotional fabric of societies.

the organisation may very well be contributing to this breakdown.. how many members of the gb are married with children and grandchildren who can fully empathise with what their policy is doing, has anybody written an article on this subject..

I am so in agreement with your words above. The WT affects the emotional and physical health of those families within and also those who have left. They should be held legally responsible for the illness their actions have inflicted on many people. The state should identify them as a dangerous cult that harms the very fabric of families.

Is this abuser a pedophile or messed up victim of abuse

i've been trying to figure this one out for awhile now, it's something i have let go and dealt with but i do have some questions regarding it now.

when i was seven, i had an older jw female cousin who was thirteen who forced me into sexual activities.

she used threat of bodily harm as her way of forcing this.

LTF. If you do decide to speak to the abuser, be prepared that it may not turn out to be what you hoped. Forgiveness and healing for her. Often abusers are in total denial. Denial (don't even no I'm lying) She may deny which would probably cause you to feel like you are being abused by her all over again. She may even bring other family member against you in the denial to keep the secret. This reaction is too common so try to prepare yourself for this.

5go had a thread here - the service overseer nearly cried from the podium that mentioned something i never realized, elders having to chip in from their own pockets to cover expenses.. how many elders here had to do that, and what was the average amount and frequency that you had to make up the shortfalls?.

My husband the MS was always helping the congregation elders financially and always overcompensating in the contribution box to help with congregation expenses.

How painful this must have been for you carrying this experience those years. I firmly believe that the Jehovah's Witnesses' problem of sexual abuse within is so deep and far more dangerous than what the Catholic Church dealt with from Pedophile priests molesting children in their parishes all those years. The reason why the sexual abuse is so insidious and deeply routed within so many of it's families is because this is such a closed community made up of families who are all interelated throughout the many circuits. They grow up together, play together, date each other and intermarry with each other. Their family issues become intertwined and many of these family secrets are carried through and hidden by members in this religion. Especially with the elder arrangement, sexual abuse is covered and hidden by elder family members who either have experienced abuse, or know of other members abuses. A family member who is a pedophile and becomes an elder is often protected by other family members hiding abuse. Then through generations of hidden sexual abuse and inter congregational marriage alliances, this problem of family secrets is often incest that carries throughout the different families continuing to hide secrets of sexual activities of other familiy members. It goes on and on and stays in that organization and keeps growing like a cancer. Your cousin very likely passed some of the leftovers of this disfunction onto her own children who could either grow up to look the other way and ignore sexual abuse, or to acutally perpetrate it on other members of thier family or within the congregation. Or if not that, maybe be drawn to another pedophile from some other congregation. It just keeps festering from family to family in all different disguises until someone breaks the chain and stops it. Maybe deep inside you are feeling you must do this in some way so that someone else is not affected by her sexual disfunction. If your cousin went on to have a family, who knows what twisted things she could have done to the minds of her daughters or sons even if only with words. This will continue to be a generational thing she passes down through her immediate family members and they will also until the chain is broken.

she would have been 5 mos tomorrow.

Tatiana, I am so very saddened to learn of the horrible experience you and your family are facing from this loss of your beautiful grand daughter. I can't say I know how you feel because I don't. But I have 3 grand daughters of my own, and I do know how I would feel if something like this happened to them. My youngest grand daughter is 6 months and i keep thinking about you going through this.

skeeter1 I agree with you about Anderson Cooper and Greta. They are respectful and respectable journalists. I enjoy watching their interviews. Anderson is a very empathetic interviewer, also. He's been through some rough emotional stuff in his life in younger years. I think this is what gives him the ability to empathize with the people he interviews and some of the causes he covers. Greta is cool. Nancy Grace is just the queen of mean, but I'd still like to see her chew up WT and spit them out publically on her show. She's brutal, even to the people she invites to comment on her show. She's a pistol.!!

DannyHazzard Thanks for all the info and website info. It would be cool if Larry King had Barb on his show. He gets to the heart of the matter and asks the good questions.

You know with all the shows being done on the issue of sex offenders not registering and living within communites undetected, I would love to see them bring out the fact that there are just so many of them who were convicted and sentenced prior to Megan's Law and are free not to register. There's a lot of them out there offending and reoffending in their neighborhoods undetected.
