Since Witness elders are voluteers and not paid and formally educated paid clergy, they should have not right to ecclesiastical privlege. They are employed outside the Kingdom Hall. I am not sure what the laws are from state to state.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses Really (Volunteers?)
by Voyager inwhen searching for the definition of the word (volunteer) my dictionary defines this word as: one who serves or acts of his or her (own free will).
to offer or give of one's (own accord).. starting from the very beginning of the organized to accomplish our ministry book, chapter 2 page 12, the main heading there reads: benefiting from theocratic (subjection.
) the dictionary defines the word subjection as follows: under the authority, rule, or power (of another).

April 2003 KM: ``Mind Your Manners in Public"
by Room 215 innow that it's dispensed with its annual ``don't you dare partake" in advance of their spring travesty of a communion, the faithful and discreet slave shifts its focus to another seasonal perennial: the km's recurrent exhortation to ``mind your manners at this summer's district conventions.
by ``connecting the dots" between the leadership's admonition to mind one's manners at the hotel, to tip approriately, to avoid ``double-dipping'' by eating and then loading up on unapproved takeaways for lunch at hotels that prvide complimentary breakfast, to refrain from losing all inhibitions in after-hour socializing and to forego the donning of outlandish skin-tight (or conversely loose fitting ``hip-hop" outfits) forte duration of the assembly, a picture quite different from the idealized notion of jws being a worldwide fraternity of solidly mature, temperate ministers who lives find fulfilment only in the service of god and their fellow man.. what sort of adults need to be lectured in such terms, let alone a group that boasts of its aloofness from satan's world?
what does it suggest about leadership's awareness of how far removed from reality the rank and file is from their literature's stylized imagery?

I remember their warnings and threats if you stayed in hotels that were not on the Society's approved list. That always infuriated my hubby, and of course we never followed that direction anyway. We used to go to St. Petersburg, Fla. at a favorite family resort every year, and catch 1 or 2 days of the assembly at the Bayfront which ran assemblies every weekend, We combined this with visiting old friends who had moved down there, got that out of the way, and enjoyed the rest of our vaction.

Francois, I have read all of the comments about your encounter with Jones. Your reaction to him, in my opinion was very much appropriate, and I commend you on your response. Out of the mouth the abundance of the heart speaks, and your heart must have held many hurts from the WT experience. Your righteous indignation towards him was entirely appropriate. Out of his heart he spoke too. His arrogance showed through his perfect JW disquise. His response to you was typical of thier tactics. Rather than humbly excepting responsibility for the actions of his religious community's dealing with pedophilia, he immediately blamed it on the Catholics, and turned it around on you by passive agressively questioning you, almost name calling. I do not believe for a second that he was in the dark about WT's sex abuse problem wit all the media coverage. Francois you are to be congratulated for not allowing yourself to become victimized by the JW coming into your yard to force his presence on you. If more people would do this, Jehovah's Witnesses would not get away with forcing people to become enablers for the continued agressive, and intrusive tactics of Watchtower Publishing Company.

shooters? Drinking before meetings? Anyone?
by goofy inok, up to the last i would make sure and have a few drinks before i went to the meeting.
it helped me relax as i am very hypertense and up to the last was going crazy listenning as i truly believe the speakers were getting more boring than before.
i never did but thought it would be cool to sneak a shooter in your purse and down it in the restroom mid-way, but i can't drink hard liquor straight, so that didn't happen.

OMG that brings back memories. During the last year or so that I was in I would have a glass of wine, usually a full bodied red, or a port, and sometimes down a valium with it. I was having panic attacks often in those days before going to the meetings. The kingdom hall sybolized a battlefield to me, with the elders always pulling us into the library for our stand on sexual abuse issues we were dealing with. Drinking wine now is done for enjoyment, in the spirit of ozziepost and his wonderful wine selections he mentions here on the forum. Oh, and by the way, no more panic attacks since leaving the Watchtower Publihing Inc.

Your favorite Watchtower oddities
by logansrun inyou know, there are some things phrased that are just so, so....watchtoweresque.
what are some things you see that remind you of some wt foibles?
one thing that always cracks me up is when an article or book (or post) uses too many exclamation points.

by somebody in3/15/98 wt pages 10 and 11.. dangers of following men.
a "sect" has been defined as "a group adhering to a distinctive doctrine or to a leader.

Somebody, Your plea to lurking JW's as from the heart and very moving and I do hope that your words reach the heart of some of those lurking here. It is so sad, but JW's remind me of the Iraqi people who were so ruled and brainwashed by Saddam's regime until they "saw" and "felt" reality of what freedom is. JW's within, like myself at one time, really have not idea how "improsoned" they are to lies until after they leave. Then everything falls into perspective. The GB has stolen the minds and hearts of those they have blinded with fear. When the fear disolves healing begins.

The other side to that is when you go up to them and smile and talk to them, they ignore you and walk away. This has happened to members in my family. When that happens we can actually be "enabling" them to carry out the act of shunning you which in itself is a passive aggressive way they can treat you as if you have been 'killed'. So usually now if I see them, I prefer to look at them as if I were looking at some weird, strange, unbalanced person that I would prefer to avoid, but give a half hearted , forced hi, and roll my eyes at them. Makes them feel kind of silly, because you know they are shaking in thier boots if they are alone and wondering how to act with you. Like you look at them and go PPPPPPHSSSHHH!!!!!

SEE THE REAL FACE OF THE WAR IN IRAQ, SEE THE HORROR
by justhuman insince the media in u.s show nothing about the war in iraq, and bush's administration censor everything that is "bad' for the puplic, here are some shocking photos of how bush is setting free the iraqi people.
similar view of how watchtower's god will treat everyone who disagrees with them in armageddon.
bush does not care about the iraqi people.

War never is victimless on either side. Saddam was warned for weeks of what was coming, and instead of taking steps to make sure those innocents were protected, he chose to use them as human shields, and hide his cowardly Republican Guard in childrens schools and hospitals, and residential neighborhoods. It is Saddam not Bush who is evil. Let him go the way of Hitler, Mussolini, and every other murdering leader who kills, and tortures, beheads and uses meat hooks on his own people. At least you can be sure Bush would never do those dispicable things to you for speaking out against him.

rebel,
First, your husband has implied by reading you that scripture that, you are comsidered an enemy in his own household, simply because Watchtower has made him believe thier twisted interpretation of that scripture. The Wt as all fanatic fundamentalists have taken thier beliefs beyond what is written. He does not even use critical thinking when it comes to this saying of Christ. Christ's teachings, whether you believe the Bible or not, were based on love of God, and love of fellow man. When we apply that principle in our family, showing love and compassion, and respect, we are in effect showing Godliness, and therefore we are following the commandment of love that Christ taught. There are many households in that become as if enemies of one another when they do not apply these basic principles with one another, therefore disowning what Christ taught. On a different wave of thought, a renegade ruler, like Saddam rules his country in direct opposition to the principles Christ taught. He and those like him have come under judgement even by Biblical standards. Being punished by the superior authorities in other countries who rule with respect for basic humanity. Something Christ taught.
If you want to really bring it to another level, you can turn it around on your hubby and tell him he has dishonored Christ by accepting the apostate teaching of the Watchtower that elders are "Glorious Ones", when clearly that scripture in Jude was not referring to anyone other than angels, not men.
