I'm not just looking for someone to tell me to stay with her. I just want as much guidance as I can get towards making my decision.

I hope you stay with her...I just don't want you to become a JW. It sounds like you have already had enough pain without adding more pain through a cult. I wasted 30+ years with JW's and I have no desire to see anyone else, for whatever reason, join it. If she truly loves you...could she leave the cult to be with you???? Have you asked?

Actually, I said that you would either cave, or resent the intrusion. You are right, I don't know you, but I am familiar with human nature. Life is not a vacuum. Change is inevitable. If you just go through the motions "to get everyone off your back" eventually you will resent it, regardless of your feelings for your girlfriend. I think that you are under the impression that converting and going through the motions is a short term and simple thing. If you think that you should re-evaluate your intentions because it is not that simple.
You asked what everyone thought of you converting and you have received many replies, none of which indicated that conversion would be good or beneficial for you. To the contrary, there have been many warnings and cautions. You have received a great deal of good and solid advice... now it is up to you to decide. I would be very interested in your final decision and the result and hope to hear from you again. Whatever your decision is I wish you the best of luck and hope that you are able to come to a resolution that makes you, and her, happy.

I guess I just figured I could keep a charade going where they would believe in me as a JW but where I would only be attending things for her.

Keep in mind that it is very difficult to keep a charade going particularly when the charade involves such an investment of time. Between meetings, field service, association, etc. there is an investment of at least 10-20 hours a week. It will eventually come to the point where you will cave in under the pressure and will join, or you will resent the intrusion on your life. When you begin to resent the intrusion you will add an unimaginable burden to your relationship/marriage. My wife and I have been married for 23 years. We married when we were in the JW's and we left the organization together about 7-8 years ago. I do not believe our marriage would have survived if one or the other had decided to stay with the JW's. The gap between the two lifestyles is too great. Also, there is a tremendous amount of undermining that occurs from the Organization. If you begin to miss meetings, or if you decide to fade away, be prepared to have the JW's undermine your relationship.
One more thing. Although you mentioned that she is fine with you going to the meetings "for her", what happens if that changes for her and she decides that it doesn't work ? People grow and change and their needs change along with the growth. She may accept you going for her for now, but trust me when I tell you that this can change very easily. Things very rarely remain the same in any relationship and if she decides she needs more from you as her "spiritual head " tm then you will be expected to shoulder that responsibility. (Just some things to think about)

i was sitting here typing a post when i heard the "new message" tone come from my phone.
i played the message and it was none other than my mom.. "hi, this is mom... i'll talk to you later.
i wonder why she decided to call.
I told them that what they believe is their own personal decision, and their right, and I'm not going to try to change them... all I ask is the same in return. Doing this disarmed them and kept their JW persecution complex from kicking in... Instead it forced them to realize that THEY are the ones doing to persecuting.
What a great strategy Elsewhere. I can see why it disarmed them and it sure is a loving way to get your point across.
Sadly my dad tried to insist that *I* am the one who has been deceived.
So what does being decieved have to do with anything? What I mean is, lets just say for the sake of argument that you have been decieved. What now? Does that change the fact that they are choosing to shun you? It is still a choice that they are making, whether or not you have been deceived (obviously it is they who have been decieved. Just using their reasoning for argument sake). I always get aggravated when the JW's make these end of discussion statements as if the statement clarifies their actions and their position. Always passing the blame along to others. It still does not explain, nor justify, the end result which is the shunning. Damn the JW's and their idiotic reasoning.

they hate the meetings but see the convention as a time to socialize and meet boys.

I thought it was commendable that Liz and Elese spoke up in the car. That is really difficult when they know how their mother and stepfather believe. Good for them for speaking up in front of Sammy so that it could be shared openly...and good for Sammy for speaking up for herself. They all seem to be exceptionally bright and it is hilarious reading how they run circles around the dubs and their thinking. By the way...did I sense a little of the old crafty Corvinus gene coming out in them with their loaded question/statement about the JW/relationship issue, or was that a completely innocent statement? I think I know the answer...but please clarify.

That in my opinion is the secret, being best friends. My wife and I dearly love one another and are still attracted to one another very much, but what we always come back to is our friendship. We make each other laugh so much that when we are in a restaurant people will turn around in their seats to see who is causing the commotion. Mrs. exjdub is the funniest person I know and she has a heart of gold...how else could she put up with me for 23 years?

I had 30+ years in the Org...7 out... and only a few months on the JWD board. I have a lot of time to make up to match the time I wasted in the Org. If I looked at it from JW reasoning...it's kinda like the re-education work after the resurrection LOL. As long as there are people being "resurrected" from the JW cult, there is a need for the re-education work.
If everyone left JWD before I got here, how would I have known about the NGO issue? How would I have known that there are so many out there, like me, who felt that they were alone with their feelings about the Org? How would the hypocrites in the WTS be exposed? Big thank you to all of you who decided to stay.
