I Did It Again.....but THIS time.....
by Frannie Banannie intried contacting my older inactive jdub sis a few weeks ago.....with little/no response....i'm sorry i've been so absent from the forum lately.....things have been hot and heavy here with work (36 hr shifts for me at times)....the job ended when the pt's fam fired everyone (agency will get me more work, tho)....the pt's son with cancer also has tuberculosis, it's been discovered, so now i hafta go down and have a test for tb (grrrr)....i hope you all are well..... anyway....regarding my emailing my older inactive jdub sis....i've always been the one to try to stay in contact over the years, up until my df'ing in 1992, when my older sis was quoted as saying "i wash my hands of her".....after my step-father's death, i contacted her recently by phone and email.....knowing that it would probably produce the same results that have always dominated our pseudo-familial relationship because of her superiority-complex (she treated me like ka-ka).....her greatest concerns were "i'm old and fat now"...."i'm going back...(to the borg)"......"i don't want to hear or see anything negative about the (borg)..." (can anyone here say "ostrich!!!
") after repeatedly emailing her over a few days time and hearing nothing in return, (why am i not surpised?
) i finally decided to "cut the strings" myself.....of course...i "plagurized" (sp?

Yep, Frannie, I got one of them big sisters, too. Let's give it up for ka-ka sisters!
I got one of 'em too. I think we should call them the "Divine Secrets of the Ka-Ka Sisterhood"

Room215,
I have heard that about Sydlik. I hear he is a real ass...but my brother-in-law is a monumental ass, so I was glad that Sydlik inflicted his lovable personality on him.

Did I Do The Right Thing?
by Englishman inthis happened just about an hour ago.
i'd driven out of town to do some remedial work for a customer, so i was driving my battered old ford sierra.
coming back into wsm, i was a few hundred yards from a large roundabout and was positioned in the correct lane, ie, the centre one, and slowing to a stop.

Englishman,
I think you absolutely did the right thing. I have been in similar situations a few times and I always thought about how I would feel if I did nothing and the person continued on down the road, rammed into a family, and killed them. I could never forgive myself if that happened so it made doing the right thing very easy.

Sad News...
by Sentinel inmy mom had her valve replacement and triple by-pass surgery today.
the operation lasted five hours, and they had just gotten her to her room at 8:00pm when she went into cardiac arrest.
the doctor tried everything, even opening up her chest and massaging her heart.

My Brother-in-Law (who for the sake of the story we will call "Sam"), who is an elder, once had Sydlik visit his congregation. Sydlik, from what I have been told, is quite cranky and does not suffer fools very well. To appreciate the story you have to understand that "Sam" is quite enamored with himself and, because he has had many talks at the district conventions, has quite an ego. Well, "Sam" was invited out to eat, along with a group of the other "special people" (hand picked elders and their wives from surrounding congregations) with Sydlik.
Well, as they were all making chit chat, "Sam" turns to Sydlik and asks his opinion about some obscure point. I forget the exact question, but something along the line of "Brother Sydlik, what do you think about the usage of the greek word rouloff instead of relspoff for the translation of...blah blah blah. I am sure "Sam" sat all day thinking of a question that would impress Sydlik. As "Sam" eagerly waited for his reply, Sydlik turned to him, gave him a his best whithering look..and barked out in a very loud and cranky voice, that he didn't come to dinner to answer questions and shut "Sam" down real quick. From what I understand, he was not very gentle about the way he did it, and everyone at the table was listening. What makes it even better is that "Sam", the cheapest bastard I know, had already volunteered to pick up the tab for the whole dinner in his efforts to impress. Brother Sydlik will never know how much I appreciate him for that night. He may be an idiot, but he made my day with that one.
The way I found out about "Sam's" humiliation was that he and my sister were fuming and were quite offended at the way he was handled, so of course my sister had to vent to me about their experience. I couldn't laugh out loud when my sister told me what happened...but I sure laughed out loud when I was telling my wife, who happened to enjoy it as well.
An interesting side story: I found out through my sister that members of the GB came to their district for the DC one year. I forget which members were there, but there were 3 or 4 of them. While they were backstage, the elders and their wives were approaching the GB members with copies of the JW's in the 20th century book and a marker in their hands and asking the GB members to autograph their photographs that are contained in the back of the book! I was still a MS at the time and remember being appalled, not only that people would ask for the autographs, but also that the GB members would sign their autographs!?!!!!!!! But sign they did... What a bunch of hypocrites. Anyone else see this?

Comments please?
by irishayes ini am still having an ongoing conversation with a couple of jw's on my medical message board and when i commented about the requirement of a number of hours of witnessing, this is the response i got.
is she being truthful?.
"in all the years that i have been a jehovah's witness, never once has anyone put any pressure on me to do a required amount of time in the preaching work.any time i spend speaking to people about the bible is spent because i want to do it' because i want to try my best to follow the example of jesus and his early followers-acts.5.42, acts 20.20,i believe that jehovah god wants me to be a part of this preaching work mathew 24.14, ".

This person is NOT being honest with you.
I was raised a JW and started reporting "time" when I was 10. If you wanted to be considered a "spiritual person".
The standard was always 10 hours a month. They figured 2 hours at week.
This number is especially enforced for those who wish to move up to being a Ministerial Servant and Elder.....
Irishayes,
What Codeblue said is absolutely correct. If you are a "low hour publisher" you are considered spiritually weak. It is true that they state from the platform to "do whatever you can do" and that "Jehovah knows your situation and only requires your best effort", however the application of that arrangement is only applied to those who are very, very sick and who are physically unable to go door to door. Anyone else is pressured to do more and the 10 hour mark is the standard to be an elder or a ministerial servant. I know because I was a ministerial servant and had to go through that garbage to be appointed (makes me sick to think of it now).

Can We Make April 2004 Our Best Month Ever? Figures say otherwise
by truthseeker inthe first thing i read when i get the new kingdom ministry are the service report figures.
i was surprised to see that for the month of april, the auxiliary pioneers were far less than what they had been in previous years, even though the number of dubs preaching were over 1 million.
compare april 2004 with april 2000, and you can see a massive drop off in zeal, during the famous "memorial season"

Wow...very interesting truthseeker. That is quite a drop off. I wonder why the Regular Pioneer ranks are remaining static and not dropping off as well? Any thoughts?
