I feel ethically compromised by Rick Fearon being allowed to continue posting here

i'm not entirely sure why, but rick has been the biggest trigger for me.

i have said some very mean things to him that i regret and i apologize to rick for them.

but what he is doing leaves me feeling dirty and i don't even know him.

Your eloquence and empathy towards others is very refreshing! Thank you!!! The last time I tried to say basically the same thing about Rick, I was called an A**kisser, so I hope that you fare better with your kind words than I did-lol. It boggles my mind though that there are some bullies here who make it a point to condemn people such as Rick, being downright mean and making fun of him not just once, but several times in each and every thread he makes. If those people don't like what he has to say, maybe they should personally do something proactive to further the cause themselves instead of being armchair warriors and complaining about others who are trying to make a difference; straw-rafter, et al. Some of these same people say that Rick is making people run back to the Kingdom Hall, but what they don't understand is perhaps their own actions, bitterness and sarcasm are causing questioning people to run back to the Org. quicker than Six Screens may.

Some need to realize that there is constructive criticism, and there is plain old fashioned mean spiritedness. Instead of the sarcasm and bullying, perhaps others can nicely offer suggestions and critiques to Rick to help make his site better. The saying "You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar" holds much truth.

Do unto others...

Again, I am sure that many of us, myself included appreciate your fair and balanced words. It is people like you who make JWN a much nicer place to visit!

Were there 200 JW's disfellowshipped in 1980 all at once - in Cleveland, Ohio?

i have some old notes from a 1981 circuit assembly.

brother frank bartell was the district overseer.

i am pretty sure its 1981 or 1982.. anyway, in his last talk he said that there was a terrible situation in cleveland ohio the previous year (1980).

Dang! I always miss out on the fun! I heard that they used the KH library as an orgy room for their nefarious perversions. They then had to throw away the litter-ature because of all the pages being stuck together.

There was also a button on the podium that when pressed would cause a leather sling to drop from the ceiling on the stage for "Demonstrations".

The reason they all got caught was the fact that there were too many glory holes in the walls which caused issues to the structural integrity of the Kingdom Hall. Otherwise, they would have been able to keep their dirty little secret going on for much longer.

The sad part is that the majority of JW's in that cong. will have mixed emotions about the fires. They will be saddened about the loss, but at the same time they will be happy thinking that they are being persecuted, and it will only make them stronger in their resolve.

When did this "written review" idea get started?

for some reason, i simply cannot remember any written review being done and graded in all my jw time (1962 to about 1980).. have i completely forgotten this, or did it get started after i had left?.

I remember the written reviews! That is so funny that you mentioned them as I had totally forgotten about that aspect of my cult indoctrination. I was in from about 1971 to 1984, and we had them during that time. At our hall, we would grade our own papers. I always got all of the questions right-lol

I used to look forward to written review night, as it was a break from the regular dull monotony. The questions were always very easy, and I used to finish mine quickly so that I could doodle or take my Aid book out of my briefcase to read for the remainder of the time.

Active JW understands flaws in WTS doctrine but believes in the Bible

perhaps this is a common topic for newbies on the site, but i have browsed for a while and not seen this exactly answered.. as an active jw who understands the flaws in wts doctrine, but believes in the bible, how do i identify a form of worship that meets all the criterea:.

1) by this all will know you are my disciples if you have love among yourselves (john 13:35).

sure i know that not all jws do this, and that people from other religions or non-religious people do this also, but as an official doctrine jws will not kill one another in war, and in general there is a genuine effort to exercise "agape" love not widely found in the world at large.. 2) preach the good news.

I don't have a lot to offer right now, but I just wanted to say Welcome, and that I am glad to hear that you have opened your mind and heart towards finding real truth, rather than the other "Truth" that JW's teach. I am glad that you have read CofC by Ray Franz, it is a real eye opener for those who may have doubts or questions about the Watchtower.

Hello trthskr! I can appreciate the fact that you are standing up for what you believe in. It appears that by coming here though, you may be questioning things having to do with the Organization. Please keep an open mind about things, and you will soon discover the real truth. You will find a wealth of information at this site as well as other X-JW sites. I encourage you to read and research some of the things here. You will find every type of info. imaginable, and you will also find the proof to back things up. I am sorry that there are a select few who are unpleasant to you for trying to share your beliefs, but the majority of us are understanding, and will kindly and maturely debate our beliefs and thoughts with you as long as you afford us the same kindness in return.

There is a "Best of" section on here that discusses some of the best and most important things this site has to offer. There is a LOT of information here about the UN fiasco. Again, as long as you are willing to keep an open mind while reading some of the topics, you will find that there are things that the Watchtower has not been honest and upfront about. If you are looking for something in particular, there is a search function that works fairly well.

The latest change in Watchtower vocabulary to catch out the unwary

i got a copy of the recent kingdom ministry the other day and it reminded me of something in the book the orwellian world of jehovha's witnesses by heather and garry botting.

it's on the front page of the december issue of the km, they have a heading called "not 'alternative' witnessing" where they explain that the term is no longer considered appropriate and "public" witnessing should be used instead.. in the orwellian world of jehovah's witnesses the bottings discuss the importance of the particular language jws use to set themselves apart from other people.

they redefine common words to give them a particular slant, such as "brother", "sister", "literature" and so on.
