Unfortunately that's the way it goes, dogs only live for around 12 to 15 years and one day it will happen, they will either die quickly and naturally or will get incurably ill and will have to be mercifully euthanised if in severe pain and discomfort.
Fortunately my dog is only 4 months old and I don't have to think about it for a long time. The previous one run away at the age of four.

Self Deceit and Faith.
by hillary_step inthis thread is inspired by a comment made on another thread, but i thought it would make an interesting discussion.. self deceit is described as a "misconception that is favorable to the person who holds it".
my premise is that faith is a form of self-deceit - lying to oneself.. so, i would ask of the "faithful" the following questions and would request that they be read carefully to ensure no that there is no misunderstanding of purpose.. 1) in what way is faith not self-deception?.
2) is a person who has faith in a god that you do not believe in, say for example siva, practicing a form of self-deception?.

I also see the extraordinary complexity and purposefulness of living things from the cell up as proof of a creator, the evolutionist will argue that evolution does explain this but it never convinces me it's just too good to be the result of evolution which is really based on blind chance.
I recall Serotonin strongly objected in one of his PMs, to me calling evolution a process based on blind chance but that's what it is in the end natural selection may not be blind chance but the creation of new genes through mutation which is what really creates new traits and cumulatively over time new species according to evolutionary theory, sorry Serotonin but, it is most certainly a random process.
An intelligent designer looks much more reasonable in explaining the nature of this world, every minute detail appears to have constructed by a creator unimaginably more intelligent than any human.
Finally evolution is most certainly not a proven fact but a theory that is constantly eroded by new discoveries. True enough life forms do get more complex with time but that does not disprove a creator and ominously for evolution the supposed numerous small changes in species are not present in the fossil record. As Darwin aknowledged there are big gaps between species as we go up the complexity ladder; today as much as in his time.
So call it a perception of things through a feeling or intuition mode or more rationally through the logical analysis of scientific facts eg the fossil record, belief in a creator is the way to go despite what Mr Dawkins et al claim. -

I found e-bay was OK after quite a few purchases I only got ripped off once, the goods I paid for weren't sent but fortunately it was only a small amount £17, about $35.
I wonder what happens if someone pays a lot of money like thousands of dollars for something that never arrived, who will reimburse the buyer? -

How Many JWs REALLY Died in German Concentration Camps?
by Farkel inin tribute to norman hovland who did the research and wrote this:.
how many jehovah's witnesses in the concentration camps?norman hovland.
how many jehovah's witnesses was there in germany before and shortly after the war?

I do not understand what their contention is, it was a case of one totalitarian regime oppressing another one. Nazism against watchtowerism, the JWs got what they deserved given the way they treat their own dissenters. Only they seek to constrain and kill them psychologically rather than physically.

They Jews have moved on, see for example they don't ban blood transfusions because "savings lives is above the law" as they put it. Yet the JWs took a very ancient Judaic law on blood and used it to ban transfusions with the result that thousands of naive dubs died due to it over the years. They can never see the common sense fact that saving lives is above the law and insist that God would rather see a JW dead rather than accepting some voluntarily donated blood from a well meaning fellow human.
No wonder why many see the JWs as way out creepy screwballs. -

God and Evolution
by BurnTheShips induring the second half of the nineteenth century, it became common to speak of a war between science and religion.
but over the course of the twentieth century, that hostility gradually subsided.
science should not try to become religion, nor should religion seek to take the place of science.

Despite what Dawkins believes religion and belief in God and angelic creatures is just one of those things that may well be correct despite the absence of direct proof. It's just that humans do not yet know let alone understand the substance from which invisible intelligent creatures are made.
We barely understand the substance that we are made of ie atoms which are themselves made up of protons, neutrons and electrons which are themselves made up of quarks. The mathematics involved in trying to understand them are so complicated that only a handful of mathematicians can deal with them. -

Nice to hear that you found your way out of the cult though you were born into it. True enough the way it presents God is a very Judaic and old testament one, the severe and vindictive lord rather than the loving Father of the New Testament.
In essence watchtowerism is judaism in disguise no wonder why most people in it feel beset by some kind of blighting misery inducing influence that constantly undermines their life quality.
Christianity is all about becoming members of the body of Christ and not the organisation of the Jewish God Jehovah. -

Nostalgic for your first computer?
by AlmostAtheist ini just read a piece on cnn about the commodore 64. apparently it is what hundreds of thousands of people (the article says "millions" -- really?
millions?
) look back on as their very first real computer.

It would have been useful if you people that began using computers from just when they got affordable, gave the dates that you got your models to help get an idea of how home computing developed over time.
I was a latecomer in the game, back in April 1997 I got a high specs PC with a Pentium 200 MMX processor, the most advanced at the time, 32MB of RAM, a 2.2GB Hard Disk, a 2MB Graphics Card and a 33.6k modem.
These of course look primitive by today's standards, just ten years later. -

The ugly duckling becomes a beautiful duck when fully grown so why should it worry about its transient ugliness? It's a passing phase.

Are you a happy ex-JW?
by Burger Time ini was thinking it might be a good idea to come up with a website like happyexjws.com where we record a short video of ourselves saying we are now happy and briefly explaining why.
kind of like the atheist group who's members blaspheme against the holy spirit.
thoughts?.

Left the JWs long ago and felt delivered after realising that the uniquely JW beliefs were completely wrong and false. Nothing at all they themselves formulated is doctrinally sound as one would expect from people that were not fully and correctly trained in religion and philosophy. Eg Rutherford was a lawyer and never a theologian. His job was to assist people in court cases and not to formulate religious doctrine.
Their entire belief system is a pile of lies and gross errors.
