That article is a classic piece of JW propaganda. It never ceases to amaze me how the FDS after stubbornly refusing for decades to see some obvious facts pointed out by others, (by JWs, who for doing this will not be JWs for long, as well as by non JWs) eventually gets the new light and accepts them. It is obviously an artificial situation.
Christ had always been invisibly present on earth and that's a basic christian understanding so what was this belief that he returned invisibly in 1914 after a nearly 1900 year absence?

unlike the 60's they do not say christ "came" in 1914. the "proclaimers book " p137 says the bible students came to discern that "christ did not return, (even invisibly), in 1914.".
the way is now paved.

i would love some clarification - i understand how russel was the first president and was calling himself and his followers bible students - was judge rutherford also calling himself a bible student?

Yes Rutherford and all followers of Russell were calling themselves Bible Students until the early thirties when Rutherford changed their name to JWs. Before becoming a president he was a lawyer defending the WTS in legal cases.
In fact Russell did not nominate him as his successor or even a board member but with his ruthless legal skills he managed to grab the presidency from the legal successors.
In his pre bible student days, he was a baptist. -

Still no, they don't believe that what they do is right except in a pharisaic way. Where are the acts of kindness, the assistance to loyal JWs going through adversities or the spirit of love and humility?
They being according to their own declarations saints and pillars of the truth that were chosen by god as the elite of all the elite and given the top positions in his organisation on earth, are not really delivering the goods. -

I weigh more on the side that they are evil by design and not by sheer incompetence. Everything else, claiming they really believe that what they do is any way beneficial is simply hypocritical, they can't be practising deception of such depth and cunning without knowing it is harming people. They simply pretend that they believe it does not.
In case they believe in obviously faulty ideas there has been a word for it for a long time and that word is pharisaism. The lies of this cult are very numerous and well crafted. Why do they not just back down to liberate a lot of people from mental oppression? -

you know that thing christianity would love for you to forget happened.. when the court system of rome failed the christian courts took over they instituted trial by ordeal.. simply put any accused of a crime would be tortured tested to see if they were innocent by many forms of painful test to see if god would come to the accused's defence.
if they were innocent then no harm would happen to them because of their faith, of course pretty much 100% of the time they were hurt an were summarily executed punished with all the love of jesus in mind.. atheist should due the same accuse all of christians of crimes and force them into trial by ordeal to prove their innocence and backed by god.

White Dove, the JWs are not really christians despite what they claim because they do not participate in the new covenant except very few of them and even they especially the GB members don't really know what it means.
If you are not part of the new covenant under whatever pretext then you are not christian, end of story. Even worse the JWs are not centred about christ but about the old testament jewish god jehovah, their main focus is on the organisation of jehovah not the church of christ.
Need I say more as to why so many people see the JWs as judaism in disguise pretending to be christianity in order to undermine it from within eg by driving people away from the new covenant through cunning pretexts, thanks to the GB members who are, gasp, the christian elite of all the elite in the world? For christians christ and not jehovah is the saviour and central personality and that is the central conflict between christians and jews like the ones running the WTS. -

The Bible is fine, though not infallible in my view its essence is sound. After so many centuries of copying and recopying and translations no doubt some errors occured also some fake verses were introduced.
But overall the existence of a creator God and a saviour as a reconciliator of man and God and the promotion of a spiritual culture are valid. -

The WTS will never give a full disclosure of its finances and financial activities therefore we can never know for sure what exactly they have been doing with the wealth they built up from their printed products income, donations and investments over 120 years and how much of it they have.
It appears to be a multi billion dollar operation a vast financial empire so they could be doing well from money they invested in unknown to us sectors. And nobody knows who gets the money, the GB could be just a front concealing and serving the real owners and beneficiaries of this vast corporation.
What's sure is that this org practices deception of great depth and it behaves more like a business rather than a religion. It no doubt knows how to horribly distort biblical verses (eg the early church was run by a GB which acted and governed just like the JW GB do today) to promote its hidden agenda conceals many secrets and mysteries.
