my mother told me that the congregation has been pretty much begging for money for the local kingdom hall.
after the presiding overseer expressed the state of debt and severe lack on contributions, he then asked the congregation to approve a resolution to send mor money to the society!!!
i don't know how they are able to function.
I personally think the WTS is too rich to worry about financial problems. They use many tactics to milk the dubs even more.
Would like to ask though if a KH is built with local JW labour and donations (for land and material purchases) do they own it or the WTS? I once heard that an entire congregation left the society so who kept their KH premises?
i wasnt the most academic of children although i had some capability but i could read quite well by the time i was 4 years old at least for my age; i have always read as a child and still read now as an adult both professionally (research) and for pleasure.
i have always been able to write too...and pretty much advanced as well as my peers did in school...perhaps i am lucky, i certainly feel like i am when illiteracy amongst adults and children is rife at present...however.. i remember when i was 16 the wts in the uk were pushing through a scheme teaching those who were not as able to read and write...and an elder in the hall made a point of coming to me and suggesting that i should actually attend the training!!
!....i explained that i could read and write well enough and didnt need to be taught basic literacy... he said that i might learn something new and should respect jehovahs order of things and show appreciation...i did decline his kind offer rather abruptly....but wtf??

It would be good to redefine the word brother to mean someone who does not have the warmth and understanding that one expects to see in human beings.
Not just many elders but all GB members are people of little education and refinement despite their responsibilities hence the mess this org is in, rather than just thump the Bible they do well to read some human psychology and sociology. But if you try to tell them how to improve you are out, so nothing improves. It serves them right.

Eventually the guards got us out and later the car rescue services that I was a member of recovered the car and took us home to London. As we were going home the rescue guy said this was the most unusual and awkward breakdown case he came across in eight years of service. For my two passenger girls it was also their worst nightmare situation.
Did any of you have any frightening experiences?
when you were before a judicial commitee for whatever reason...did they try to get you to see the error of your ways and thus save you from destruction at the big a...or were they just happy to let you die.. .
i have a theory that goes like this...if you are sorry they think that you are not and df you...if you are not sorry they make an attempt to try and save you because its a kind of feather in their cap.. .
i was sorry...so sorry i thought i deserved to be df...and said that i expected to be..and they later told me i said i wanted to be df...which i didnt..(i was a mental and emotional wreck on the night of the jc although i tried to portray otherwise)....but even if i had, surely they had some responsibiity to try and 'readjust' me.. .
I had the same experience as whyamihere, I was too much of an independant thinker for their liking, and they basically asked me finally if I wanted to continue to be known as a JW, I said no and they said can you give us a letter of disassociation which I did a week later and never went back.

There is no doubt in my mind that Rutherford and his successors are moved by the spirit of the evil slave in its purest form, the way they are lording it over and excluding everyone else from having a say in this org makes it clear enough, even the so called fellow annointed enjoy no respect from them save the occasional lip service.
They are controlled by a boundless lust for power and by this they show how little they believe that the end is near. As people here often say they are running a multi billion dollar business not a spiritual paradise, the two don't mix.
question-- if a jw is disfellowshipped for having too much association with a non-witness- is this jw likely to be refused a reinstatement as long as he is associating with her-- and if so- will he be allowed to talk to her again to some degree after he is reinstated?
I also don't think someone can get booted out for any amount of social intercourse with non JWs who never were JWs.

Purplesofa, that should help since the preaching "work" was not completed as they said by 1999 and we are now in the 21st century so they had to change it and I also notice the grandiose claim that they are completing the apostles preaching work in our days (LOL).
What did you do with those magazines and books by the way did you burn, sell, donate them?
Personally I can recall three acts of deceit that were practiced on me, I was told before baptism:
1.The WTS was NOT responsible for the 1975 end of times debacle but instead some irresponsible individuals who were spreadind unfounded rumours, the WTS would never set such a date because we simply don't know when Eve was created (Note: it seems as though Eve was not created for at least 30 years after Adam since we are now in 2005)
2.The GB in Brooklyn is constantly in touch with all members of the annointed and they exchange ideas.
This I found later to be a blatant lie, the GB do not want to consult anyone since that would mean sharing power and status something they absolutely hate to do.
3.That if you get baptised the JWs will treat you more like a brother.
In fact the opposite was true after baptism you felt more isolated and abandoned.

I was once talking with an elder about someone who had partaken of the emblems for the first time though quite young, in his thirties, and I said I can't see why most people disbelieve and criticise what he did why don't they go and ask him some questions about his decision before being so judgemental, and he told me: "we only believe in the FDS, that guy is just a clown"
Knowing him I'd say he was a very decent person but probably the JWs expect the "annointed" to be totally commited in preaching in their way whereas he had different ideas on the issue, he was into street preaching (the apostolic way as he said)as he didn't think it right to go knocking on people's doors. Plus he always refused to give in time slips for his fs to the elders as he thought it totally needless.
