It's a high control cult where rank and fike are programmed to check and control other members. If they don't attend the brotherhood will start accusing them of getting weak not being ok in the truth, not being a good brother or sister. So to avoid all that aggravation illness excuses come handy.

Dubs are sick people
by gringojj ini notice that when my wife misses meetings( about 60 percent of the time she does) she always tells her study person she wasnt feeling well.
her sister uses that excuse all the time too.
even her mom who has been in it 30 yrs often is too ill to go to the meetings.

Where's the payoff?
by AllAlongTheWatchtower inexcuse me if i'm being cynical, but i've had my own experiences with [b]organized religion, though it was non-jw.
the group i was affiliated with demanded that full fledged members tithe (10% off the top of your income; pre-taxes), and a donation basket was also circulated at nearly every gathering in addition to tithing.
even kids were encouraged to participate; they would give them little envelopes to put loose change into and put in the basket.

However note that the WTS is still a cult and can seriously harm its members in emotional rather than financial ways. It's best to steer clear of any cultish environment.

Boy its hard for teenaged JW's
by skyman ini had to come home early from work today because a 17 year old girl came over to me and was all upset she asked if she could come up and visit with my wife and i. she said the brothers are always picking on her and she can not do anything right.
i asked, what have you done she said nothing every time it is some one making things up and she is tired of even trying any longer.
teenagers come from over all the area they they know they can come and talk to us and we will not judge them.

True teenagers can have a rough time in the JWs because of the special needs they have at this age and which are not met in that society. It is worse for those that don't have both parents in the org especially if their father is not a JW.
Teenagers are kids really that suddenly have to deal with strong sexual impulses that the org wants suppressed under pain of severe sanctions, and they also have to learn a lot about the world, how to relate and find their place in it.
The org's environment is very hostile to this growing process and interferes with it in a very negative and destructive way apparently jehovah's spirit forgot to inspire and direct them them on this issue. They even try to dupe them to forego a university education.
The result is many oppressed-depressed and even suicidal teens. Fortunately many realise the game being played and leave so they can have a normal life. -

The Little Things Rub It In
by Euphemism indo you ever find that you think you've gotten accustomed to the shunning, and then some small, stupid thing comes along to reopen the wound?
that's how i feel right now.
it's been a while since i've really thought about it; the limited contact has simply become routine to me.

Let the dupes sit and wait in vain for their new world paradise and think that contact with the "apostates" may cause them to leave the saving org and lose it all. Those are the ideas the GB put in their heads to manipulate them into doing this most unnatural thing ie shun their family.

A VERY PECULIAR FEELING (and a pleasant one at that)
by Terry ini work at a bookstore that buys books for cash directly from the public.. we get maybe eighty or ninety people a day lugging in horrendously filthy boxes filled with roach droppings, mold, ancient dust and, oh yes, books.. among these books there is the occasional "find".. but, mostly (and disappointingly) it is 97% garbage.. today a fellow brought in three boxes full of typical dusty and unkempt books to sell his aunt was "getting rid of" that he thought he'd convert into easy cash.. i took his i.d.
and phone number and then looked at the boxes.. they were all jehovah's witness books!
bound volumes going back to the 50's, all the booklets, books, concordance, interlinear, bibles, etc.

These books may be charmed somehow, with subliminal figures and writings. I threw out all the JW books (1970's and 1980's)I had a few years after disassociating when I realised the extend to which they were deceiving and manipulating people through those publications.

The Compassionate JW
by PopeOfEruke inthe united way realized that it had never received a donation from the city's most successful businessman who is a jehovahs witness.
so a united way volunteer paid the jw businessman a visit in his lavish office.. the volunteer opened the meeting by saying, "our research shows that even though your annual income is over two million dollars, you don't give a penny to charity.
wouldn't you like to give something back to your community through the united way?".

It goes to graphically show that they don't have a charitable spirit despite their clain to be the world's only true christian religion, they are business not a christian religion

damn, it happened again.
by nowisee ini was working.
i travel around in my work.
today i was in a mall.. a lovely young woman approached me, looked me in the eye and said she wanted to leave me with something...as she handed me a tract.. i looked at it searching for evidence it was jw.

They have indeed been so mind conditioned by the cult that unless they have already began doubting by themselves they are impossiible to approach, but you don't lose anything though by telling something so as to try and open their eyes.

Did society go against Jehovah's will?
by TweetieBird infor decades it was always stressed (especially in one of the pubs that came out in the 70's, i think the one about the thousand years) that one of the signs of the beginning of the great tribulation would be when they started taxing religion.
in another thread we were directed to http://www.bibletopics.com/biblestudy/84a.htm about the society going to court to support jimmy swaggert.
it seems to me that maybe the society was running ahead of jehovah by doing so, and the organization started on a downward spiral since then, ultimately slapping jehovah in the face by going to bed with the un.

They don't care about the widows and the orphans they don't have a spirit of "not living for yourself" even though they expect eternal life as a reward.

How the WTBS sets itself up to be wrong.
by JeffT ini'm writing an essay on "a personal exprience with religious fanaticism" (i'll post it here when i'm done, although it is intended for a non jw audience).
this has led me to doing a lot of research and i was really struck by something last night.
no matter what the subject the watchtower has to have a single right answer.

Or they discard their doctrines time and again proving that they are totally at a loss as far as the truth is concerned. They don't know what to believe.
