Mandela's First Wife, a JW, died Friday at 82

the reports came with the news that mr mandela's first wife, evelyn, died on friday aged 82. they were wed in 1944 and had four children, although two died.

as he went into politics, she became a jehovah's witness.

they separated in 1955. .

Memory Lane

mrs. exjdub and i were talking about the jwd board the other night and, after discussing many of the topics that are on the board, we started reminiscing.

pretty soon we started laughing until we had tears in our eyes remembering the "joy" of conventions in the old days.

mrs. exj remembers camping in scarborough, maine during the convention and waking up in the morning to damp sleeping bags from the moisture in the air, trying to run to the community showers before the session, feeling dirty all of the time because of the dust, sitting in the blazing sun at the racetrack, getting rained on, etc.

Hawthorn race track in Cicero IL. I could not wait until they were over I remember the meal tickets I do not miss those days at all.

Oh wow great replys, because I remember a few years back when I attended a meeting it was actually an issue, I can just see everyone praying so that we can resolve this important issue.

Prats with microphones

in your congregation, did you ever have macho-wannabes on the microphones, strutting up and down the aisles handling the mikes as though they were aka assault rifles?.

we had a few tossers like this.

What fond memories you have brought back yes handling the mikes was considred a real privlege

in my hall I am going back about 20 years now ,also doing the sound was another top notch privlege.

been lurking off and on for about a year.

i was never df'd or da'd, just walked away.. .

i began to study when i was a new mom.all my friends worked, i got lonely for adult conversation,and when i was offered a "free" bible study i jumped at the chance.

Welcome jadelady I to was marked as bad association even after giving talks going out in service and driving elderly sisters home I too decided to examine the wts and yes it was a shock this forum is great and am sure helps in the healing process because you have someone to talk to and share things with that we all have in common. Remembering dead ones on their birthdays....

my boss lost his wife about a year ago and when her birthday came, he was very upset and his whole family got together.

i thought to myself how nice that was and how birthdays must mean so much to people.

because i was raised a jw, birthdays just don't have that kind of emotional meaning to me.

Yes I feel the same way when it comes to the holidays I feel like I am numb to them and that they are just another day,my wife really got upset with me since I did not get her a x-mas gift or a birthday gift we are just recently married and I can see how my jw background makes me feel this way.
