  Embarrassing JW Parents-How 'bout U?

  so, what horrible or just plain silly thing have you guys experienced under the thumb of jw parents?.

  i'll relate one-.

  there was a time the 7th grade had won a contest for something.

  I'll relate one-

  There was a time the 7th grade had won a contest for something. The teachers thought it would be a good idea to get us all a movie (reel to reel movie) and show it in the auditorium. They chose Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. Now, that's rather benign, isn't it?

  Well, my brilliant father decides to show his spiritual purity by calling the school and shutting down the reward movie. I don't know hwo the kids found out, perhaps from two teachers talking, but I never heard the end of that one. Absolute ridicule. And middle schoolers aren't known for their mercy.

  Just something small I remembered tonight. It's not really horrible, but at the time it was life-ending. That year my father banned all fantasy books, green striped shirts(I kid you not), anything with lettering on it (because it was worldly), even backpacks with labels. Some crackass elder had said something to him----oy.

  the wts will condemn the recent murder and do its best to distance itself from the parents.

  jws will say its the actions of people who are deranged and nothing to do with jws.

  they will say other religious groups harm children.

  divining rods work

  it's a funny ol' world.

  a month ago i was mucking about with some thick fencing wire and i suddenly got the idea to bend a couple of pieces into a set of divining rods like i've seen old nutters doing on tv.

  so i cut two sections of wire about 2' long and bent the ends 4" at 90 degrees to form old fashioned diving rods (twitching sticks are made of yew or hickory or something .. don't know what, if anything aboriginies used).

  Unc, don't belive in diving rods much, but i wish you luck...belive it's hoey mostly, just our own body interpreting signals...

  whatever...have a Guinness...very satisfying

  Feedback needed please

  my sister in-law is a 10th grade honors student.

  she is 14 and currently enrolled in english ii - a required course.

  she and her fellow students are studing the holocaust in thier honors english class.. the teacher has instructed them to do the following:.

  Right on expat....but I still think that the real world is a horrible place, where they will see horrible things. Two to one, nothing has happened to 'traumatize' the 14 year old. If the violence disturbs her, then fast forward, but an indepth study in to the politics of hate,including violence, is necessary. The war museum someone mentioned is a good idea...if something is too graphic there, just walk on.

  Don't force something on a person, but if you know they can handle it, even if it makes them UNCOMFORTABle then they should do it.

  The holocaust is the one of the most horrific sections of history in the entire history of man. It deserves to be told truthfully, and graphically...if they don't realize how incredibly horrible it is, then they will be blase about it. They have to realize it could happen again.

  Watching Life is Beautiful is a good idea for an alternative for people who are squeamish.

  Old Kingdom Melodies

  even after a bit of time has gone by - do lyrics to "kingdom melodies" still drift in anyone's head?.

  it is over 6 years now -- yesterday and even still now - for whatever reason the song with the lyrics "the way of the truth is the best way of living" -- just that line kept going through my head!

  my wife and i found comfort in each other.

  Utop...me too...a friend of mine said it best, "sometimes I just want to sing a nice bible song, read some scriptures, and hopefully get a biblical sermon, while sitting with semi-religious people, even if they are ignorant."

  I've visited several times since we left two years ago, and it was just boring for me, but it was nice being in a church..you know what I mean? It just reminded me of the few good times I had there, and then I left, no better or worse than I had come in.

  Should People Be Disfellowshipped?

  a reply i made on another thread prompted me to post this.

  i was going to do so on the other thread but that was really not the topic and i didn't want to corrupt it by flying off on another tangent.. i have no problems with disfellowshipping from an organization such as jehovah's witnesses.

  i don't think a person should be allowed to remain within an organization while practicing things that are condemned by that org., things which they, themselves profess not to believe in.. my objection is to the shunning.
