I am really sorry about your cat, Country Girl. We had a cat we just loved. She was a really wonderful cat, a sweet personality and you know they don't all have sweet personalities, some are just hooligans. But when she was only a year old she got hit by a car. My husband and I cried and cried and 9 years later I still tear up when I think about her. I don't think it's at all shallow, and I don't think there's any heirarchy of suffering. Otherwise we could never grieve at all because there's always someone worse off.

Into the mystic (an experience).
by El blanko inthe following i wrote to a friend this morning and doctored slightly for this forum.
can any of you relate to this kind of mystical experience and if you would be kind enough, would you mind me quoting any experiences listed to my friend?
please be aware that the letter uses language to detach me away from the watchtower (thus church, instead of congregation etc).

I think it's beautiful, FMZ. I really love to hear these sorts of experiences, thank you.

What's your favourite word?
by myauntfanny inbecause of another thread i got curious about whether many people have a favourite word.
i've never really gotten over my first love, which was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (seems like there ought to be a comma in there somewhere).
but that's not really a word.

Goodness, Stinkypantz, those two in your avatar don't look very lackadaisical (that's really hard to spell)
I like "scurrilous".
Oh, FBF, an emoticon is not a word. Come on, I want something sexy and French!

Bennifer! That was a mistake, what were they thinking of? No one will even know who they are in a few years, while progressives will be smirking over Freedom Fries (and neo-coms looking miffed about it) forever. And plus it has legs, you can do Freedom Twist (only nobody wears their hair like that anymore), Freedom mustard, Freedom Ticklers.
Thanks for the link, it's really entertaining. I miss that here, they don't really approve of that kind of word play in Germany.

Blondie
Sorry, I realised I'd spelled it wrong when I looked it up. My husband says it's actually French, originally, and he didn't grow up with it either. So maybe it just came in in the last few years?

I like it when people make up words. My friend once said her boyfriend was vandalous. He was, too. I've thought about it so much over the years that now it seems real to me.

Yes, that's right. But that's more formal and I think more critical. Etepetete is more commonly used and I have the impression it's more friendly.
TresHappy
Well, how in the heck did she expect you to manage that?
Edited for typo and clarity.

I need HELP!!!!!!!!!
by Samdownunder incan anyone relate and help with the nagging doubts that it really was the"truth" and we are all doing the wrong thing and being misled.
i have read a lot of information to sway me from the witnesses and to think it is only a man made religion, but still i fear i could be wrong and going against god.
how do you all deal with this feeling that surely most have experienced.

I think it can be really helpful to read up on mind control tactics.
I was raised JW and guilt has come back to bite me on the ass about all sorts of things over the years. What I know now is that guilt is always a sign of betrayed loyalties, but it's not always a sign of doing something wrong. A good example of this is Huck Finn feeling guilty for helping his friend Jim (who was his aunt's slave) to escape. He feels guilty about it because in HIS culture loyalty means whites sticking together against slaves. His loyalty to his family and his group make him feel guilty, but we would most of us agree now that he did the RIGHT thing. You have to look at guilt quite carefully and try to get a perspective on it.

Also I prefer a firsthand person[not
secondhand(sorry for the description)], who was never
involved with any males in her life, because I feel I am in
the same position. This got to me too. Doesn't a man usually KNOW if he's a virgin? I guess maybe JWs get confused since practically everything seems to count as sex that might conceivably lead to sex (like holding hands, for example).
Although you could read it that he's never been involved with any males in his life. Which really wouldn't clarify things a lot.

Counterfeit Goods
by badboy ini understand that 500 billion worth of goods are brought each year, underminating ecomonies and causing job losses.
-
myauntfanny
Logical, that's worrying. I want to buy a Pimsleur language course on eBay, do I run a risk of getting a counterfeit? In face to face interactions I think people (adults anyway) always know, on some level, that the person they're buying from is dodgy. But how can you tell on the Internet?

Mysterious
No wonder it was a very descriptive word even if it was made up.
I know, it's hard to comprehend that we ever lived without it. I mean, I chortle sometimes. What would I have called it before Lewis Carroll came along?
Country Girl
I find even the word "titillating" kind of titillating. (Sorry, I just wanted to say it. Titillating. Titillating. It really is a good word.)
