last week, my middle daughter, 15, found a large lump in her throat.
it was about the size of a quarter.
when she pointed it out, it was very visible.. the doctor said, after viewing the ultra-sound pics, that it was either a cyst with an unusual hardened mass inside or a carsanoma, [not sure of spelling] a cancer attached to her thyroid.

I don't know you very well on the board but I always enjoy your posts and I just wanted to say I hope it goes well for your daughter. I'll be thinking of you both on Tuesday.

It makes much mores sense. Now that I can actually understand what they're saying I think I'll re-up.
what are your thoughts on this?
would you date someone significantly older than yourself?
have you done so in the past?
I'm five years older than my husband and we hardly ever notice it, but sometimes one of us does. When I hit the big five oh he's gonna be where I am now, it's a strange thought. I'm just going to hate being in my fifties for five years all by myself. I also once had a woman friend (not a lover, just a friend) who is about 18 years old than I am. In her late fifties she started just acting, well, old. It kind of freaked me out, and I thought then I was glad I hadn't married a man a lot older than I am, because if that happened with my husband I think I'd get depressed if I wasn't ready to start acting old yet.
for those of you interested in attending the convention this year, this program was emailed to me.. .

LOL. This makes it looks like you might be the opposition they are trying to defuse. Wouldn't it be great to be that much of a pain in their arse?

Could someone just tell me when one becomes an older woman? I think I'm stuck in limbo right now.
i've had this evil little tune rattling in my head today.
i should hyphenate it in that you're-too-stupid-to-read style we hold so dear.
(to the tune of song 89).
LOL, thanks for SHARING.
we keep hearing the phrase "enemy combatants" which seems to be a new invention to mean people fighting on or near the battlefield but not part of the army.. these are baaaaaad people, we are told (how dare they defend their homes and countries god damn it!)..
they can be tortured, imprisoned without notification or trial and generally not treated very well.
the legalities of this are in serious doubt.. what then of the numerous "enemy combatants" in iraq at them moment?
And if they are caught doing nasty things, the government can refuse to take any responsibility because instead of being soldiers who represent the American government, they are just private employees who did a bad job and have to be replaced. Would they have to face court martials, the ends of their careers? I agree with Simon, it's a recipe for disaster.

No ,contractors are not constrained by the geneva convention but they are not allowed to just randomly shoot at people ,however they do have the right to return fire if fired upon
Normal soldiers are in the same position, but they are also accountable under the geneva convention, right? It is these mercenaries who are now going to be put in charge of the prisons, according to last night's evening news. So if they get into torturing prisoners, who will they be accountable to? Only their bosses?

there is no selective pressure that would favour intelligent sensitive and sensible people over others.
As far as I can tell selective pressure weeds out the sensitive and sensible. But I get pessimistic during war time.
