Best, worst and weirdest assembly halls...

a recent thread about the experience of attending the 1969 convention as a young child really started me thinking.

i have several fuzzy memories of assemblies i attended as very young child.

this got me onto the track of the rather odd, uncomfortable or even really cool buildings i have visited over the years as a result of those conventions.. so my questions to everyone are:.

Its a toss up for the worst - Yankee stadium in the summer, the smell from the bathrooms was horrendous, the transportation to the stadium, either public or by car is a bad adventure and the was no shelter from the sun of the rain.

The other horrific staduim was Veterans in Philly. I believe in 1983 the Dub couldn't afford and assembly site in the NYC area so we had to attend the assembly in Philly. It rained the entire time and it was extremely cold for July. Many of us got sick afterwards and then we missed time from work on top of the time we took off for the assembly.

Film Scenes that got burnt onto your memory

what were some film scenes that pleased or horrified you so much that they stayed vivid in your memory for a long time?

the one i always recall is the scene where anthony hopkins (playing as hannibal lector) lobotomised ray liotta (paul krendler) cutting off pieces of his brain and giving them to him to eat.

he also took some of liotta's cooked brain in a plane and gave them to an unsuspecting passenger boy sitting next to him to eat.

Almost forgot, the "hair gel" scene in "Something about Mary".

I have many favorites, but 2 that come to mind right now are:

In the movie SIGNS when Joaquin is looking at the news cast showing the first sighting of the alien at the kid's birthday party in South America.

M. Night Shyamalan direction was great.

The sex scene on the stairs in the movie History of Volience. Viggo and Maria were great.

Morning conversation with my mom

mom calls me this morning.

chatting, just chatting about my oldest son's birthday yesterday (he turned 12 and we took him to dinner and a good time was had by all), about my sister, about us and the kids going out to california this summer to visit my parents, about when mom should be receiving her girl scout cookies and mary kay order from me.

i related how after the sermon at church my son tried to invite a friend out to his birthday dinner.

Believe it or not, that conversation is a step towards your Mom undertanding your position and your belief structure.

My conversations with my Mom started out the same way, her asking me questions, her honestly wanting to undertand why I have "turned away from the truth".

In time my mom can now even agree with me on certain issues regarding religion, things that are not normally taught at the hall.

Parents are very strange when it comes to conversations about the dubs. I finally realized that my mom views my rejection of the dubs as rejection of her parenting skills. She has had a hard time separating the two. Maybe you can't, but I can see the progress we have made over the years, to th point that she can accept but not agree with my views.

I hope you and your mom continue to have an open dialogue concerning religion.

Oscars - did your favorite win?

i agreed with all of the winners at last night's oscar's except for the best actor award.. i would have given it to joquin phoenix.

i thought his performance as johnny cash was great.. i also thought that jon stewart did a great job.

i particularily liked the opening skits.

How Do You Nullify A Baptism

does anybody know what the procedure is if you want to nullify your baptism?.

has anybody successfully nullified their baptism?.

I have a close friend who had his baptism anulled in the 1980's. He was very young when he got baptized, about 12 and he soon afterwards committed some petty crimes that were known in the neighborhood. He was sentenced to reform school and before he was shipped off, the brothers meet with him and made an official announcement that his bapitism was null and void.

I always thought that this was done more for the sake of protecting the congo from a bad reputation in the neighborhood than for the benefit of my friend.

Unfortunately, after he came out of reform school after about a year he got rebaptized and is currently an active witless, although he does not adhere to most of the dogma of the witlesses.

He only does the minimum and has many "worldly" habits. His view is that he likes the social aspect of being a witless and does not want to give that up.

History channel

i was just watching the history channel and their talking about hell- the devils own.

when talking about the devils challenge to god over job.

one of the commentators makes the statment that 'not only was this a bold move on the devils part, but, also shows how he just wanted to do evil for evils sake, when you consider no one can challenge god and win.

Yes, it does make God evil. What purpose does it serve to allow someone to be tortured because of a bet.

It is the most arrogant and sadistic story in the bible.

I often asked my parents if they would allow me as their son to be tortured just to prove a point.

Of course they answer that they would not, so if you wouldn't do that as a loving parent, why would a loving God do it?

They never seem to have answer for that part of the question.

I think my best friend would leave if his son needed blood to save his life.

I don't think he would let him die.

My mom would probably leave if the dubs decided to physically isolate themselves from the world, like opening a commune in some isolated place. Don't think my mom would leave my dad and me.

i'm hoping for:.

best picture: crash - just for the deep subject matter and the great cast/acting.. best actress: would love to see keira knightley get it but reese would be o.k.. best supporting actress: catherine keener or rachel weisz.

best supporting actor: george clooney 'cause i've lusted after him since er but i'd love william hurt to get it, he cracked me up in 'a history of violence'.

Terence Howard was definitely raised as a Dub.

I don't think he was ever baptisted.

He went to the same congo as a cousin of mine on Philly.

Actually I thought he was better in the movie Crash - I would have liked to have seen him get a nomination for that performance.
