  My Bethel Experience part 7

  people would ask me "how long do you plan on staying at bethel" i would say "forever!.....or 4 years which ever comes first" .

  besides the about 48 hours you worked there a week, you would have other duties too.

  there was dish duties.

  I am enjoying your stories but It disturbs me that your Bethel experience did not allow you to really get to know our great city. As a native New Yorker, I had many bethelites in my congo in Brooklyn and me and my friends made sure that we always included the bethelites in all of our entertainment activites.

  One of the first things we used to do was to take the bethelites on a sightseeing trip to the Statue of Liberty, Coney Island, the Empire State Building , WTC , and a few musuems.

  We always took them to baseball, and basketball games, and movies and plays. Of course we always picked up the tab for the guys, we understood that you guys were making a sacrifice for Jehovah, so we felt that you deserved what ever help we could give.(Boy, I really sound like a deluded dub)

  Because of its diversity, sports, culture and entertainment, NYC is one of the best cities in the world to live in. I know it has its faults, expensive is just one of them, I would never trade my time spent there and I hope your time spent in Bethel hasn't soured you on our city.

  have you ever been called on the carpet due to a bible studies activities?

  yesterday afternoon i had an amazing recall of events from over 30 years ago.

  i was a pioneer with 7 or 9 bible studies and one study was joseph.

  When I was a teen ager, me and another young brother started studing with a school mate around our age.

  This guy had 3 sisters who were absolutely beautiful and everyone in the neighborhood knew of them.

  After the elders found out about the bible study which was held at the guys house, the elders basically demanded that either we have the study at school or my house or bring an older sister (my mom) along on the study.( obviously we couldn't be trusted around these worldly girls.)

  After 2 meetings with the elders I lost all desire to even have the study, so after a while we just stopped.

  Incidently, the elder that had the biggest problem - his son dated one of the sisters and committed "porneia" with her. He was disfellowedshipped because of these and variuos other activities.

  What do elders talk about behind closed doors?

  just about every time i went to the kingdom hall, i used to see a few elders gather in the 2nd school and close the door and stay there maybe 10 or 15 minutes.

  oh, what they were doing seemed so important... .

  what the heck do they talk about behind these closed doors?.

  Usually we were discussing how to get some poor kissass brother to handle a task that none of the other elders wanted to do, like Saturday field service, cleaning of the hall, shoveling snow, visiting the sick or elderly.

  gossip was usually kept to small groups of 2 or 3.

  i 'm sorry all of this is not in order.............i'm writing as all this comes back to me.. my first room assignment was room 33 in the 129 building....it was and old building, built around the turn of the century,...the society owned it but it had worldly people in to.......i'm not sure why but maybe there was a law that provented them from being kicked out or something.

  it was a 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment (about 1000 sq.

  ft.) there were 7 of us in there, all new boys ( less then one year there).

  I lived in NY in the 70's , and I agree that during the time you were there it was pretty dangerous to ride the subway in Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx at night.

  And mugging were abundant no matter what color you were.

  I was a black kid who went to school in Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst and I was always acosted by white muggers while going to or coming from school.

  It was was tough on all of us.

  By the way I am really enjoying your stories. There were several bethelites in my congo and I grew to be friendly with many of them.

  They always seemed to be tired, hungry and sad.

  My mom became a surrogate mom to most of them and our home was like a second home for the Bethelites.

  Interestingly enough, none of them encouraged me to apply to bethel, as a matter of a fact they were the least judgemental when I decided to go to college

  JWs and tatoos

  i noticed while watching the aussie tennis open that serina williams has a tatoo on her back that shows a little when her dress top shifts a little after some intense play.

  what does the wt think of tattoos particularly on women jws.

  i noticed she still does that "jehovah" thing in her finishing speach, that tells me that she is still in the org.

  Tatoos were definitely UNACCEPTABLE when I was in the Borg 10 years ago.

  Also pierced ears on men.

  I read today in the NY Times that Prince has a wife named Manuela that works on variuos charities thru a company called A Perfect World Foundation.

  I hadn't realized that Prince had remarried.

  Is she a witless and if so was she before he married him?

  When I hear of Princes' antics, like hosting parties after the Golden Globes, I find it hard to believe that he gets away with this stuff in the religion I remember.

  We couldn't even have a gathering with just other dubs that numbered more than 20 people.

  Has the cult really changed that much over the last 10 years?

  Teresa Graves.

  She lived in CA and I believe she recently died in a fire.

  She basically gave up acting to be a witless.

  that is what i have started telling jw's i talk to and i have yet have one to question my bold statment.. it's no secret that many jw's are leaving, quitting and fading.

  baptisms are way down.

  young ones are leaving the kh in droves.
