I've seen the Joy Luck Club and The Color Purple with my wife.
I slept through most of it.

i was wondering if anybody has some input/suggestions on their feelings of blacks/a.a (no offences to ppl who are white and born in s.african or anything of that nature.
ok in xocos case i'm h***an/american (born in the us) and i grew up in a predominantly h****an kh so mostly black and few european ppl/decent that spoke the francophone lang (*hint, hint*) i've never knew what it was like to be in a predominantly caucasian kh (4 that 1 year i was living in the bible belt of fl,us).
it was different and ppl were mesmerized by the way i acted compared to other a.a. jw around their near by khs.
XOCO - Although in some circles being black, a woman, poor and undereducated are strikes against a person, these things don't define who you are as a person.
What you have in your favor and its a "biggie", is intelligence and the drive to do better.
Many people have overcame major obstacles in their life to become positive, productive and happy people.
You will too.
Keep up the fight. You have a lot of people on the website who has succeeded even when everything and everyone around them wrote them off as failures.
Good Luck.

In the New York City area, many of the congos are mixed racially some predominately black.
Many of these congo were started in areas that had high concentrations of housing projects or low income housing. In the 60's, 70's and 80's these congos grew fast and large with many splitting to form new congos. many of the Elders and MS were black, but ussually there was a large number of bethelite brothers there to keep the rank and file in line.
Many of these dubs had good intentions in becoming dubs, they were looking for a better life for the kids, and unity with the races. The white bethelites were in most cases good people who became like family to many of the local friends. It almost seemed like there was a little bit of the paradise right in the cong with all races getting along.
However in my opinion the "truth" outside of all other lies it told us also help to hold back black people even more. It made poor uneducated people think that higher education and pursuit of the better things in life was bad and that you should rely on Jehovah. This was especially bad for black people. They were setting us up for failure by not encouraging us to equipt ourselves with the right tools to succeed in the world. Black, poor and now uneducated we had the ultimate three strikes against us. Is it no wonder that the children of those original dubs has left the org in droves.
When I speak to my conterparts who also grew up as dubs (blacks) almost all of them say that being discourgaed form pursuing a higher level of education has effected their lives more than anything else.
What is ironic about this is that most of these black families came form the south where education was a priority for everyone. Once their parents came up north and became dubs, they did a complete aboutface and instead of teaching their children to excel, they taught them to "rely on Jehovah."
I see the same thing happening today with the influx of immigrants into the borg. Those children will pay later for their parents not supporting their dreams of education.
i got my car from an elderly sis from my congo and it only had 52000mi and its a subaru gl-10 wagon '88 it looks just like this.

i have 2 stories of accidents/funny things that has happened at our thanksgiving dinner.. when i was newly married, my wife and i invited 2 other couples over for dinner on thanksgiving, because "turkey was cheap" so we bought one - we weren't really celebrating a holiday, it was just that a turkey was too big for just 2 people.
we were in denial.. my job was to make a cake, something i had never attempted and since i was a ms and the "head of the house" i didn't need any help from my lowly wife.. i wanted to make the cake fron scratch so i used the recipe on the back of presto baking flour.. because i was watching football at the same time i was trying to make the cake, i transposed the directions for sugar and baking powder - 2 cups of sugar bacame 2 cups of baking powder and a tablespoon of baking pwder bacame a tablespoon of sugar.. i mixed the ingredients and sat down to finish watching the game as the ckae baked.
after about 15 minutes there was a huge explosion in the kitchen, the entire oven door had blown off and there was cake batter over the whole kitchen.. needless to say the dinner was ruined.. no thanksgiving dinner for us that year.. second story, not to be outdone, last year my daughter 20 years old was in charge of making the turkey for thanksgiving.

Second story, not to be outdone, last year my daughter 20 years old was in charge of making the Turkey for thanksgiving. She cleaned and seasoned the turkey and was ready to put it in the oven, when she happened to mention to my wife that she when she cleaned the turkey, she couldn't see all the way through the turkey from the butt to out the neck.
My wife quickly realized what our daughter had done, she did not remove the organs that come with the turkey that is usually wrap in plastic.
Disaster narrowly avoided.
Do you have any funny Thanksgiving stories/mishaps?
dear friends,.
apart from being thankful for friends, family and all the higher-minded stuff, what of the meal itself do you like best?.
i'm going to a restaurant with friends and hope to sneak into the kitchen for some crispy, crunchy turkey skin!.

I don't know the name of the music but it was used in the movie the Mission with Robert Deniro - I think a young undian boy played on a flute.
Also Beethoven 5th Sympony?, with Robin Thicke rapping behind it. Back when he had long hair.

Drew Sagan - I know the brothers involved in the insurance scam you mentioned very well. We all grew up together.
Many of the Board of Directors and senior management were Elders, MS, pioneers...
They lived extremely lavish lifestyles with large homes, sevral late model cars, furs, jewelry etc...
The were indicted by the feds for stealing millions of dollars from unsuspecting client, over 90% were dubs.
Either pleaded guilty or were found guilty and were either ordered to pay restitution, or jail time and restitution.
Many have up to 50% of there wages garnished to pay the fines.
By the way, the President of the company was a subsutite CO in the New York area.

This is unexcusable. Not only were these people swindled out of their life savings, by a friend, it was someone who held an authoritative position in their community, someone they should have been able to trust.
It just proves that the DUBS are no different than any other religion, and some of them prey on those who are in vulunerable positions.
I bet this is just the tip of the iceberg, if you dig enough I am sure that there are several other people who he either owes money to, or has swindled them in the past.
Of course the society will assume no blame.
