I heard years ago that I was an apostate. I also heard that I had met a man on the internet and run off with him to Brazil. These things were said at a JW wedding shower so they must be true.

we all know that our simply being here is considered an act of apostasy by witnesses.
whether they know you frequent such boards or not, are you considered an "apostate" by the witnesses?

the february 15 watchtower article "walking in the path of increasing light" reviews what they consider evidence that they are directed by holy spirit.
sometimes it's what isn't said that speaks the loudest.
the article tries to highlight what they consider significant events.
My comment:
I haven't personally read the article. I'm certainly not going to give credence to your interpretation.
My guess is that not many people on this board read The Watchtower....or care much what it says.
In that light, no comments are a Good Thing.

.. you scored as agnosticism.
you are an agnostic.
though it is generally taken that agnostics neither believe nor disbelieve in god, it is possible to be a theist or atheist in addition to an agnostic.
Your beliefs are most similar to those of Islam. Do more research on Islam and possibly consider taking the shahadah and officially becoming a Muslim, if you aren't already. Despite the actions of some - who go against the teachings of Islam - Islam is a religion of peace; the word "islam" means "peace through submission to God." "Muslim" means "one who submits to God." Islam is the third of the three Abrahamic faiths, and it shares much with Judaism in Christianity; its differences are the acceptance of Muhammad as the last and final prophet, and the oneness of God - in other words, that Jesus, though he was a revered prophet, was not in fact God, and only one God exists. Apparently the Taliban could not read (though their name means "students"), because the Qur'an states that men and women are equal as believers, and that all believers should be educated and seek knowledge. Modesty in dress and behavior is required in Islam for both men and women to preserve the values of society and move the emphasis from superificial appearance to intelligence, knowledge, and God. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

i read a thread posted by gill which gives an account of an 8 year old being baptised.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/107441/1.ashx.
does anyone know what the society considers to be the minimum age at which a witness can be disfellowshipped?
stillA,
If you changed "old enough" to "mature enough" in your example I would agree. Age and maturity are two different things.
Baptism is supposed to be about wanting to do right. A young child can want to do right but may not have the maturity to hold fast. A lot of adults can't do that!
In general I believe that disfellowshipping is a bad thing. Instead of shunning a person who has tripped up there should be a concerted effort to support and retrain.
The exception that I see is when the person is bent on pursuing a course that will bring harm to others (i.e., domestic violence, sexual abuse) and has made it known that they are not willing to change. Such a person deserves to be shunned by everyone, not just JW's...but that's just my opinion.
