San Jose, CA to Texas - via IH-10
by Jim_TX inokay... this is _sorta_ a 'reunion' - so i posted it here.. i will be flying out to san jose tomorrow (april 27th), and then driving back to texas via ih-10.
(i think we are going to start off by coming through part of los angeles.).
this will take me through all sorts of interesting places that i have never been... (i've been to san jose, ca - but not out ih-10).. anyway... i think that it would be really really really cool if i could meet (even if just over the phone) some of you folks - who might be in this 'path'.. so... if you feel 'brave' enuf to want to meet up with a nerd - and trust that i am not psychotic... neurotic, or any of those other 'otics', then perhaps... if you could pm me... i can give you my e-mail addy, and we could then exchange a phone number or something.. i leave tomorrow... i know this is pretty sudden-like... so... you will need to make a 'coin-toss' decision - and pm me tonight... or no later than tomorrow am.. i hope that i can at least talk to... or meet... one person from this forum in the next few days.

Nav, from what I can tell genuine mystics do not hold anything. It is not uncommon, however, for workstations to be caught up in their workstationness among humans, and whether you hold onto that or the one mind idea it is still holding on to something, and ultimately limiting. It would be like a flower being concerned about how it compares to other flowers, how well it blooms, wanting to attain it's full potential as a flower, special things it can do that other flowers can't and so on. I'd imagine a flower like that is not nearly as beautiful as one that just blooms.

What effect did, being called "Brother or Sister" have on you?
by JH ini remember a month ago, receiving a slip at my door, saying that the memorial is this coming sunday, and it was signed by an elder, saying "your brother" elder so and so.
it was as if he and i were at the same level by writting "your brother".
the first reaction i had, seeing "your brother", acted as if we had a special bond, with a responsibility attached to it.. do you think that being called "brother or sister" is a way of manipulating you, a way of getting more out of you?

I think the way this works is on two levels. In one sense there is a natural affinity for people, and those with enough of an open heart might feel this. But of course this may be in a psychological sense too, as if someone who thinks and believes the same things becomes so intimate with you on ideas alone. Because the first connection is natural it is already there, but reinforcing it in a religious context ties it in with a certain mindset, so that it becomes identified with your religious identity. So whether one does it consciously, I do think that natural connection is being used to support a religious agenda sometimes. Hell, you can be selling Amway or something.

Is It A Good Thing To Ignore Our JW Past??

personally, i feel that everyone of us has to express whatever feelings for however long time it takes to heal.
(i'm not talking about carrying the same anger or hurt for 25 years).

Well, it depends on just how horrible your past may have been. You cant really have one blanket answer for every one person. For some their JW past was so horrible they may need professional help to deal with it and move on.
I agree Chevy, there's a time and place for everything. However, if they seek professional help that's still a matter of not ignoring it of course, dealing with it doesn't necessarily mean you face it by yourself.
