I hate to say it, but I wouldn't want this JW father around my child. He would use any time he has with her to convert her to a JW. All of the JW teachings would just confuse her.

Another example of how JW's tear families apart. You are a JW or nothing at all.

What are some of the "Get rich quick businesses" the witnesses tried?
by mjarka911 ini remember many witness businesses that would pop up.
usually they would say "i'll just offer it to the friends to get started, then when it takes off i can pioneer".
it was usually one after the other for the same people.

Gold, silver and precious metals scams
Coin scam
There was brother that I knew growing up that had a new scam every week. We would go out in service with him and he would tell us about his latest scam.
BTW, Qwest (the long distance telephone company) was a "get rich quick scheme". My family was heavily into it. Qwest decided to become a real company and dumped all chumps who sold their service early on. -

When you left the JW's, did you keep all your books & magazines?
by Rod P ini had a collection of older publications almost second to none.
along with the 30-year publications index, i felt invincible in the research department.. then i got disfellowshipped and divorced, and my ex kept them all.
" i couldn't tell her "for research" because that would have sounded like i was going to write a book exposing jw's, which would have made things even worse.

I am moving soon so I threw all of my books (not many) last night. I have the WT CD. That's about all I need/want.

Personality Wise----Are You THAT Much Different Since Leaving The "Truth"?
by minimus ini believe that most people are what they are----whether they were jws or are exes.
for example, if you were a basically happy go lucky person in the hall, you probably have that same nature now.
conversely, if you were accused of always complaining and being miserable then, you probably still bitch and moan now.

I used to hold back in whatever I said and did. I withheld all of my emotions because they were evil. I have learned to let them out instead of keeping them inside.

only baptised publishers with up to date field service records and those who are good association will ever be allowed to partake of this offer - call now!

I would like to see personals in the WT. "Eccentric elderly man seeks sister in her 20s."
Or condoms "Trojan condoms, keeping pioneers pioneering since 1890".
Or alcohol "Johnny Walker helps you escape the drudgery of your JW existence and makes the meetings go by quicker!" -

The most condescending thing said to you by the (sm)elders.
by diamondblue1974 ini wasnt the most academic of children although i had some capability but i could read quite well by the time i was 4 years old at least for my age; i have always read as a child and still read now as an adult both professionally (research) and for pleasure.
i have always been able to write too...and pretty much advanced as well as my peers did in school...perhaps i am lucky, i certainly feel like i am when illiteracy amongst adults and children is rife at present...however.. i remember when i was 16 the wts in the uk were pushing through a scheme teaching those who were not as able to read and write...and an elder in the hall made a point of coming to me and suggesting that i should actually attend the training!!
!....i explained that i could read and write well enough and didnt need to be taught basic literacy... he said that i might learn something new and should respect jehovahs order of things and show appreciation...i did decline his kind offer rather abruptly....but wtf??

I used to have a roommate who was the PO. He decided that I spent too much time on the computer. So for the 3 months every talk on the platform was applied towards not using the computer so much. He wasn't the only one giving this advice, every other elder and MS was doing it. They even took the time to look at me while they dispensed this counsel. Ah the good old judgemental times.

Guns and JWs
by VM44 indid the watchtower society ban jw's from owning handguns for self defence?.
if they did, when did they issue the ban?.
didn't some of jesus's apostles carry a sword when the group traveled, to protect agains wild animals and human thieves?

In any case, you didn't counter my central argument (nor has anyone in this thread for that matter) which is a very simple one: if guns were restricted in the same manner as even say "dynamite" (or whatever "equivalent" would be "strong" enough) the world would be a far better place. Criminals would not have access to Guns like they do and they would certainly be less prone to using them if they were so expensive to acquire due to their highly being regulated. Not too mention yes, enforcing even stricter penalties on their use.
Both myself and others have already refuted this point. Here it is again.
If guns were banned:
1. Criminals will still have access to them no matter how costly they are. Criminals flout the law, why would banning them make any difference?
2. A poor criminal will use a different weapon (like a knife) to commit crimes instead of a gun.
3. A law abiding citizen will not have any means to defend himself against the gun toting criminals.
