well - this is my first post.
i want to express my gratitude to all of you in jwd land for the help you provide.
i'd be glad to relate stories, and experiences in the future, but wanted to introduce myself first.
Welcome to our underground lair.

i now enjoy telling people about the things jehovah's witnesses can and cannot do.
for instance, witnesses can work in a store that sells lottery tickets and tobacco but they can't own the store themselves.....whole blood is forbidden to be transfused yet blood fractions are acceptable.
donating blood in any form is wrong but accepting blood fractions is a conscience matter.........can you think of other jw oddities????
A fave of mine...
How about "facial hair" being a conscience matter. Losing privileges if one does not ascribe to the established norm of a local body of elders who are sexually repressed and obsessed with keeping their thrones.
Speaking of which, (thrones), the fact that JWs put such stock in the wis-dumb of a collection of old white guys in Brooklyn and weigh their personal / life decisions on what the WT says is so.
Frikkin' idiot, GOSH! (N. Dynamite).

Mouthy,
I have been off the forum for awhile, but I found your thread. Enjoyed the interview immensely. Well done. And it was a pleasure meeting you at BRCI past May.

How about this.
A JW cannot read or view ANY literature / information that is critical of the "Truth" (as presented by the WTBTS), especially if it is written by a former member. Doing so is grounds for expulsion from the group.
Can you say "Mind Control?"
can someone help me with this topic??
recently i have been interested in investigating on how historical and mythical information has shaped religion today, particularly christianity.
one important piece of information that i keep coming across is the sacred feminine.
You may want to look at the books by Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy: --------- Jesus and the Lost Goddess, as well as The Jesus Mysteries. The first of their two books are more in line with your investigation, but both are interesting. |
i've had a terrible time the last 2 weeks with headaches.
they usually come on in the early afternoon and by the end of the day i can hardly see straight.
i don't wear glasses but i noticed that after working on the computer or documents and i get up to walk around my distance vision is poor, i.e.
Uh, Tex, I got some bad news for ya... If you go the prescription route.... it is going to be a bit more than $100. Depending on what you choose (frame style, lens design), it could run up to $400 or more. The no-line bifocal lenses (lenses alone, without the frame) can start around $200. Add onto that your frame cost... Or some special coatings or tints..... just thought I would forewarn you for the possible sticker shock that is likely to ensue.

Good explanation eyegirl. Your explanation sounded better than what my staff members tell my patients!
Of course, I am an evil Eye Doctor, so you probably need to be careful of the advice I offer, but you have heard a chorus of good info here. Reading glasses or bifocals. Readers from the drugstore can be a little goofy for multiple reasons (weird optics, improper prescription, poorly aligned lenses, etc......). SO, you may need to have a proper pair of glasses made. There are serious limitations with the store bought glasses, sometimes making the strain worse.
Now, that will be $75 for my office visit charge. Check and money orders are accepted!

i just finished reading "who wrote the bible" by friedman after seeing someone reommend it on here.
i was enthralled and finished it in record time for myself.
i'd never considered anything that could be called 'higher criticism' before.
The Jesus Mysteries
and Jesus and the Lost Goddess
both books by Timothy Freke, Peter Gandy
very interesting stuff!
ever since president reagan died a few weeks ago on june 5th, all of the flags in the dallas area have been flying at half mast.
i can understand flying them like this for a week or so, but they are still at half mast to this day.. has anyone else noticed this?.
does no one want to be the first to stop flying their flags as half mast?.
Still half-mast in Columbus, Ohio. Is Elvis still dead as well? |
