The Unhospitable Elder
by minimus inwe used to have an elder in our congregation that never invited anyone to his house.he was a real moocher, though.
he was always paying a visit to the "friends" around dinner time.he was single and never had a girlfriend.
one day a couple of us went to visit him at his apartment, just to see if he would invite us in.

we got to our hotel (the flamingo), and as we walked into our room we saw the message light flashing on the phone.
" it was room service, said they had something for us, would we be in the room for the next hour?

Officially Disassociated Tonight
by Princess insteve and i attended our very last meeting this evening.
i wrote a thread a few weeks ago about our elder visit and their decision to announce that we were disassociated.
they agreed to wait until we returned from our vacation so i could tell my grandma who still attends via phone link and so she wouldn't have to be alone in her devastation.

Hi Princess. Sounds like you had a great time. Wish I had attended when the elders made the annoucement that they had determined that I had disassociated myself. I hadn't attended meetings in years but the unforgiveable sin was that I was engaged to a Jewish girl. Again it was their interpretation, not mine as I had never verbally or in writing disassociated myself. But we all know that the Watch Tower and the KGB make the rules. Anyway congratulations are in order as you are both free of JW control.

we also had the choice of puting a picture next to our user name.
often, some change the picture for a better one.

If You Weren't A Witness, What Would You Be Today?
by minimus inmany of us are or were witnesses because we were born into the religion.
others became witnesses because they really thought it was the truth.
so many wish that they never had a jehovah's witness come to their door or their parents' door.

If my mother had not been a JW I probably would have been allowed to select a religion of my choosing, and most likely would have become an Episcopalian. I also would have stayed in college and got my degree when I was in my twenties instead of my forties. Probably would have served in Vietnam instead of pioneering. Today, who knows? But things didn't turn out that way and it does no good to dwell on the past. Instead we should look to the future and what we hope to become.

" when you were at work, school or play did you find yourself ashamed to tell anyone that you were a witness?
what if they found out anyway?

Never liked being identified as a JW. Always hated it when I would work for a company for several years and nobody knew my religious affiliation and then a gung ho JW would be hired who was on a convert making kick. Then he would tell everyone I was a JW too. So my coworkers would often remark, "Athanasius is a JW? I didn't knew that." As I never tried to convert my co-workers.
Fortunately I never had to work in the territory where I lived. The congregation that I attended didn't hold the territory where I lived. Anyway its sure good to be free of all that BS.

I got an e-mail for a long-lost dub friend
by Mackin inthere is this woman i used to correspond with back in my dub days but lost contact with several years ago.
anyway just the other day she sent me an e-mail out of the blue.. she wanted to know if i was "in" or "out" as she was planning a trip to australia and if i was still "in" possibly we could meet (obviously i would have to travel to oz).
she had heard i wasn't going to the meetings any more.. i replied that i was definitely not "in" any longer but that i wasn't da'd or df'd and if she wanted to read my story i provided her a link to my story on this site.
