I like the Revised English Bible and the New Revised Standard Version. The Stone Edition Tanach, published by Mesorah Publications, Ltd. is the best translation of the Old Testament.

ok.....i really need to have a personal bible reading again with no ones ideas but my own.
just me god and the bible!
i will most likely be looking in others but for 15 years the new world translation has been my base bible along with so-called bible-based literature.

obviously the witnesses are going door to door, but is it as effective as could be?
in all my years as an adult, only once has any witness come to the door preaching "the good news.
" this is once in over 15 years.
I don't think they do much door to door work anymore.
when i was a young child, i remember there being a small break between the meetings.
you could get up, walk around, associate, and then go back in for the second half.
at some point, they changed it to where there was just the song.
I remember the breaks between the Sunday afternoon meetings. A number of us in our congregation were Giants fans. So during baseball season we would go outside to get the score on the games. I remember one afternoon I was stuck in the KH during the intermission. Before the PT the Giants were behind 8-2, but one of the brothers went out to his car and listened to his radio. Then he came back before the Watch Tower Study with the good news, it was bottom of the 7th Giants 10, Dodgers 8. It was a different culture back then.

i posted about a week ago on another forum about a very close friend of mine whom i am trying to get out of the org.
she was baptized when she was 15 and she's now 24. i want to marry her,but i have to get her out first, which i know all to well is extremely difficult.
through extensive research it seems to me my only chance is to get her to read "coc" and "isocf", which she has agreed to do.
I was an elder when I first read C of C in 1984. After that I began to seriously question my JW beliefs. There is no way an honest person can remain a JW after reading that book. I resigned as an elder, stopped meeting attendance and then experienced true Christian freedom. I hope that reading C of C will have the same effect on your friend.

the february 8, 2003 awake has an article entitled:"is there an unforgivable sin".notice the good news for apostates or those who once associated.
"some people who were once faithful christians have purposely drawn away from god, perhaps because of bitterness, pride, or greed, and are now apostate fighters against god's spirit.
they willfully oppose what the spirit is clearly accomplishing.
That is very interesting Minimus. But I wonder what their true motives are for this new revelation.

Happy that I don't have to attend meetings there anymore.
wouldn't it be so funny if we all gave the name of our presiding overseer just to see if anything is said later in the cong?
and to see if he reads the message here?
you don't have to give the name of the congregation if you don't want to.. my po is bristol.
When I last attended my congregation back in 1984 the PO was Bruce Hoekstra. He was a real nice guy so I don't think that he would still be serving in that capacity today. The KGB prefers men who follow the party line.
