Snarky Question

so i have a question that's been bothering me for years.

i know this is extreme but i think you'll see where i'm going with this.

so ex-jw's are evil we're on "satan's side" as my dad told me and we aren't worth a hello.

yes it seems that the "new JW's" are allowed to do much more than I ever was when I was younger. My second cousin who is 33 and is "on the fence" and has other JW buddies that they are ALWAYS going to rock concerts and music venues which were highly discouraged in my day 35 years ago. Oh and reading books of any kind was forbidden for me unless of course they were WT publications. So I snuck books home from the library and read them late at night. Couldnt' waste my money on albums that was wrong too. Oh and let's not forget higher education, we I decided to go back to school for education my family said "why would you quit your good job to go back to school" and "dont' expect any support from us". Thank goodness for student loans.

Oh and how about participating in marathons and triathlons? Isn't being competitive bad and takes too much time away from the ministry? My same cousin is constantly going with other JW's to compete in these races which are usually held on Sundays and I'm sure they are missing the meetings to participate. I really don't get that one but the rules were very much harsher for me for some reason.

i seem to remember some new 'rule' that elders whose children go to college, or perhaps it was out-of-state college, should be carefully examined to see if they still qualify.. does anyone know where that is in the publications?.

I remember in the late '70's even vocational school was verboten. I remember I had left the JW's and realized I needed more education so I quit my job and went back to the community college for my 2 year degree. I remember my parents and cousin saying "why would you quit your good job? and "dont expect any support from us" blah blah blah. Thank goodnes for student loans and grants!

Then when my cousin Kevin's kids became of age in the '90s oh somehow it was okay for them to go to vocational school. He's an elder but of course somewhat wealthy and thought of highly so of course there were no consequences for him or his daughters.

Curious About My Disfellowshipping.

i recently read an interesting thread (is there a 'third' way to leave?

) that talked about fading instead of being df'd or da'd.

i myself had planned to fade, but was df'd instead.

Yes it very much depends on who you are on how a DF is handled. When I was 19 I decided I could no longer go door to door and

moved about 12 miles away to a house with worldly high school friends. I attended a few meetings to begin with and then no more.

It wasn't until about 2 years later the elders from my old congregation showed up at my door unannounced saying "they wanted to talk to me".

Of course my mother gave them the address since there is no way anyone else would have known. There was a big party at the house

when they showed up and so that gave them all the fuel they needed to DF me. However I never received any notification, my mother had to

tell me. My cousin was able to walk away with no consequences and marry an unbeliever (someone she had met 3 months prior) and no elders

stalking her looking for any excuse to DF her. To this day she isn't DF and this was 35 years ago. I'll never understand that at all. She was the

one that told me you could "leave the witnesses anytime you wanted". Well it worked for her but not for me.

top of my list has to be hypocrisy.

it runs right through, from elders downwards.

the literature and the gb are bad enough, but the bit that touches ordinary people, householders, students and ordinary rank and file is the false goodness that they put on like a raincoat.

Yes hypocrisy is definitely up there. Disfellowshipping is the worst practice they have and they don't seem to have

any problem with the policy. They do it "out of love". Oh and depending on who you are you can get DF'd or just

get left alone. Depends on how much money you have!

What's you BIGGEST pet peeve/disagreement with the WT or GB?!?

for me its the district conventions.

not bragging in anyway, but i was born-into a family of 'higher ups' im talking co's and zo's..... and there is a room that they set up in the conventions/stadiums called the "chairmans office".

i always have access to these rooms, because im usually with one of my higher up family members who give talks and all that other crap.. anyways, while everyone in the convention is sitting in the sun, eating a slimy, soggy bolognia sandwich, the chairmans office is air conditioned, has a variety of chilled beverages, 'coke, pepsi, diet coke, gatorade, dasani water bottles,' not to mention the 'danishes, sandwich triangles, cookies, cakes, muffins, fresh coffee, and for lunch, pizza, salads, pastas, and lasagna'.

That women can't wear pants to the meetings. And the fact that women are second class citizens. Oh yeah and the different rules for dirfferent people to be disfellowshipped! Depends on how rich you might be if you don't get DF'd.

I still have my NWT bible from when I was baptised in 1972 and I have the Aid to Bible Understanding book that was published in the mid '70's. Is there a newer version of the "Aid" book? It would be interesting to compare and see how they have changed it!

" i saw on fb my uber elder cousin and his wife and daughter at a big new year's eve party with many other jw's ringing in the new year!

how do they justify that?

I remember Kin and MaryJo Suen very well. Late '70s in the Seattle area. I ended up typing up notes for his talks at the KH and he really took

a liking to me and went so far as to say "Can you be patient?" Implying that eventually he would get rid of Mary Jo and we would be together? WTF?

I was trying to leave the JW's and he actually stalked me to my new apartment in Seattle to offer "encouragement". Of course none of my family believed me and told me I must be mistaken since a DO would never do anything like that. Yeah right! MaryJo was fun however. They liked to drink a lot too.

Growing old in this system

meet up wth an old friend of my parents.

it was sad, mable in her 80's husband is 91 and falling apart.

off course to start with it was armageddon must be soon.

I have an 81 year old mother that just had hip replacement and is particularly whiney about getting old. She goes around saying "I never thought I would get this old" blah blah blah. She is good health and should be around for awhile but that's what is bothering her I'm sure. she still thinks Armaggedeon is right around the corner and "why would people have children in this system of things?" like it's happening tomorrow.

she's also giving her estate to the WTBTS instead of me since she tells me "well you aren't going to live that long so you don't need the money"

Really? Well if Armaggedeon is right around the corner then why does the WTBTS need it? No reasoning with these people!!

About 4 years ago I got married to my longtime partner after living "in sin" for 10+ years. The light switch was turned on with my mother and now since he's not DF'd or never been a JW I think she likes him more than me! Before that she wouldn't even call him by name it was 'your friend"! Relationships just dont' work that way!
