Cheeses you are so funny!( Yikes, that sounds kinda sacrilegious to me!)
Frannie, you are too. Thanks everyone's input; it helps give me some insight.
did any of you who came into the dubs as adults ask this question, since jc is "stifled" by the jw "bible", the nwt.??
if so, what kind of answers did you get?
if not, did you think it odd that this so-called christian organization didn't preach in christ's name?

when we first left the dubs, we celebrated x-mas pretty much straight away, but had no decorations or tree, and only gave gifts to each other.
for some reason it just seemed wrong to put up decorations and we continued to celebrate this way for about 5 years.
we decided to put up decorations when it was my daughters 1st x-mas, and have never looked back.
Mizpah, I'm sorry you haven't found the reason for Christmas. I agree, the holiday is
definitely overdone and I hate that, but it's the friends, the family, the giving that make
it a truly loving holiday. Throw in a tree, hopefully a real one, with pretty lights, good food and a classic
Christmas tune and you have all the makings of a wonderful celebration that you have created...not that some pagans have created, or any other man has created...I truly hope you will someday find this special season of love.
Do you celebrate birthdays?

I want to be the first to say MERRY CHRISTMAS and may you celebrate the fact that you have received one of the most precious gifts of Freedom! Maybe it's the glass of wine I'm sipping but I am choked up thinking of so many who have stifled such celebrations...and I am sad for my family members, especially the children, who are still smothered by the JW "religion". Peace to you and yours! If there are any lurkers reading this post, I hope you can realize the pain your families go through at Christmas and Birthday times w/o your involvement...and maybe you'll be led to open your minds.
i had occassion to have a conversation with my good friend xenawarrior last weekend and seeing as everyone knows i know everything *lol* she asked me a question, but alas, i couldn't answer, for once in my life...*lol*... anyway, why do people put ads in the classified section thanking st. jude or st. mary, or any number of saints for things?
it almost reminds me of making an invocation or something, but nevertheless a quandry.
anybody got an idea or an answer?.
OUCH; as a Catholic I hate seeing those personal ads. I think that this is a big cultural thing, here in our area anyway, the Mexican people really go for that stuff. Yet, they don't seem to be at Church much. I really do believe it is part of their background, to pray to the saints, light candles, make little shrines (like Our Lady of the Bathtub..have you see those?!) etc. However, Catholics do pray to saints to help us, just as we ask friends to help us in times of trouble. Some people get "hooked" on their favorite saint, etc. and almost forget that God is really the one who answers prayer.
once upon a time a guy named jesus founded a new religion.. one of the things he - and his biographers - emphasized was "stop judging!".
he went even further, saying "stop condemning!
" (luke 6:37) the context of these.
I definitely agree with Metatron's post. BTW can some JW's, or former, answer for me when the JW's began calling their ORG a Christian organization? I know it was not called such when I was younger. And, hmmm...would a Christian organization be one that follows Christ? Well, it would seem such an organization would follow his teachings and would not have to do so from a mis-translated book they have put together and slanderously named a Bible. The NWT is a sad excuse for the Good Book.
in the past, when i've been talking about being a witness they haven't really understood just how much of an impact it has on your life unless they've been one too.
whats the best way to explain it to someone who has never been a witness and had little contact with them?
i'm more thinking of how much control there is over your life, and the reason why a lot of witnesses feel down and suffer from depression, ect.. gadget
Great Topic Gadget! TheSilence, what a great description; as a NWJW (never was a jw) I cannot fathom the FEAR factor my nieces and nephews must have running through their blood (oops).
yxl1, I agree totally. Share and tell all the dirty details to everyone you can. Concerned mama ditto. If the JW topic ever comes up in conversations I have with anyone, I fill them in good. I figure it is my equivalent of going door to door! Sometime I would love to have the nerve to follow them in their little groups and hand out some of the postings here to the householders who have just been handed the WTS propaganda. Anyone ever tried that?
the sept. 8, 03 awake contains an article about a disaster in ecuador.. on page 14 it says, regarding witness volunteer efforts, "by saturday evening,.
approximately 200 volunteers from local congregations had sealed the windows of 91. witness homes.
many non-witnesses also benefited.
"Many non-Witnesses also benefited." That's interesting........HOW did they benefit?
Need you ask? Of course, they benefited by the marvelous sight of the wonderful works of kindness being performed by the Wonderful Witnesses of Jehovah. They benefited by just absorbing the kharma of that loving compassion, which they observed at a distance no doubt, since they weren't the firsthand recipients of the work being done. They benefited by the rays of goodness exuding from the compassionate JWs. B.S. and more Bull S.!

The WTS ignorance goes on and on. The Catholic Church is facing its problems head-on. Here is a recent Sunday bulletin announcement from my church. Most Catholics are ashamed and enraged about what has occurred. But we are speaking out and we are moving onward. I have heard priests in many different churches speak out on the wrongs that have been done and each asked for prayer for the victims.
SEMINARS TO RESUME: The diocesan Seminars on the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse will begin again beginning in August. The packets containing additional information will be mailed to the pastors, pastoral administrators and religious education coordinators who are hosting the seminar this Fall. This packet will contain information which will assist parishes in promoting the seminar in their area (sample bulletin announcements, a letter from the bishop, bulletin insert, etc.)
my brother died suddenly.
his funeral was in the catholic church.
his 2 jw children and their offspring actually stood in the back of the church, behind a glass wall, and observed the service.
Interesting, Walter. My husband's uncle, the only JW on his side of the family, came to our Catholic wedding and attended his sisters' funerals in various Protestant churches. I just can't imagine standing on the outside of one's own parent's funeral as these 'kids' chose to do! You were about their same age as they when they went in, maybe they too will wise up someday...at least b4 their mother dies and they can attend her funeral without fear of the demons or whatever the hell they are afraid of!
Someday I hope to be able to sit and ask them the reason behind their choice, but I want to be prepared to respond in a way they will see a sliver of real "light" coming through. Do you have family in, or were you the only JW?
