my mother and i have been going back and forth about meeting attendence.
i don't feel i have to go to meetings to be a follower of god (of course i don't believe the witnesses have the truth either), but one step at a time.
i told her heb.
Hi Unique1. I have enjoyed your postings; you seem to be doing well. Don't let your Mom pull you into these situations. Answers like you've been shown here are good ones, give the question back to her. Have you read any of the recommended books on cults? You will gain a lot by doing so, and be more able to answer her/or NOT answer her. Take care.
im 17, havent ever really kissed a girl before or had a real girlfriend, and i have a few close friends.
my days consist of school, work, workout, homework, sleep, shower, repeat.
the weekend is unpredictable, it can be super awesum or just effin depressing.
Hi Criz, I think you're pretty cool coming to this board and all. Some advice from 'old auntie. Be patient. It sounds like you are having a lot more fun than you used to, right? And, really, with TV, movies, advertising, etc. making everything and everybody look like they are just having so much fun...it can get a person to thinking they are missing out. You aren't! I raised 3 kids and they felt just like you did at 17, 16, 15, etc...Lonely and left out. And they weren't even JW's. One of my girls was even Homecoming Queen and she went through hell thinking no one liked her, and believe it or not, she didn't have a date til she was a Senior! I taught them all to be independant, to be their own person and not to copy everybody else. They've done just fine. Hope this gives you a little better feeling...you are NOT the only one believe me. (btw, I believe in God and think he is the guiding force in us all, I hope you don't get totally away from him...just stay smart and leave the JWs far behind). You can email me anytime you want.

i don't talk about my family very much on here, but today i feel i have to, because today after all the years of pushing, finally there is a result.. thanks to life & the universe and everyone on jwd, who by simply existing have helped in a way that i don't know how to write.. today is the day my mom stopped going to meetings.. i won't go into loads of detail at this point because it's very involved, but it's done.
my dad is an elder and is still going, but my mom is out now.. thanks
What a beautiful end of my day, reading this post and the replies! Best wishes to you and your Mom. Take it slow, you've done it all right so far and I am confident you will continue!
Love11, your story is like a fairytale, a dream come true. Thanks for sharing.
This gives all the rest of us HOPE for our family members still controlled by the WTS.
a lady caller (catholic) today who married a df'd jw.
she called dr. laura because the grandparents put their beliefs in the little 3 year old's head...not going to heaven because she isn't a jw, etc.
dr. laura, in true fashion, said that the lady who called was irresponsible because she 1) should not leave a young child alone, unsupervised, with people who are filling her head full of "stuff" that they don't agree with; and 2) because they are hostile to her husband, the df'd jw.. she blasted the lady who called about leaving her kid with these grandparents.
Oops I posted in the Wrong Place. Meant to reply to CountryGirl. So I will add this: I work in the court system and see too damn many kids w/out parents who repeat the same pattern over and over...and who is paying for them to survive? You and me! I'm sick of it. I think Dr. Laura does get the message across to many who don't get it from someone else.

Country Girl is right on. There are 1000's of people in this country who don't have a CLUE on Morals, how to raise kids, keep a job, etc. They need to hear it from someone, and most of the callers come from such dysfunctional families they can't get any help from them. SO at least they hear it from a Stranger who, although she talks like a B*tch and doesn't give them a chance to talk sometimes...She tells it like it is and hopefully they listen and pick up on something she says.
i'm a jw still, and i'm new on this forum.
here's my question: if the faithful and discreet slave is a messenger for truth why is the only mention of them in the bible in the form of a parable?
why only one time(in two parallel accounts)?
Makes me Gag.
i have a family member with a special birthday coming up; but he is a jw.
we have no connection other than internet anymore.
i'm really wanting to wish him well on his birthday.
Thank you all so much, I think I will find a neat email greeting to send, with a personal message. Or I suppose I should compose my own or she might not follow the link to open it...hmmm..SO much to think and worry about when you just want to wish a Simple Happy Birthday. Makes me sad to think about that.

So, any former JW's, how did you feel when a friend or family wished you Happy Birthday...offended or pleased ? Suggestions ?

Great discussion. P.Pete, when you mentioned Luke 12 it reminded me that my JW relative quoted part of it to me, this is it:
It was disturbing to me; I'd never read this particular scripture before and was at first confused as to why Jesus would say he didn't come to bring peace...when all Christians think of Jesus as representing Peace first and foremost.
Do JW's quote this scripture often?
