You are all so helpful. No need to apologize for cynicism, it is understandable given most backgrounds here!
Please continue your replies, they are great!

Ok, I'm the motherly type. I can't help it. So, I have a young friend going thru some tough times now. Former JW, but I'm not sure he's ready to come to the board. Some posts are pretty cynical, and he's dealing w. depression but not getting any professional help that I know of.
When you first came here, did you find it comforting...frightening...or...? Did it help you? Any lurkers who would like to offer their opinions would be welcome.
Thanks, hope you know what I'm trying to say...I just don't want this kid hurt anymore than he has been.

it is my grand parents 53rd anniversary today!
very devoted jw's for about 60 years!.
my uncle will be turning 53 this august!.
Yeah, it used to be more common to 'hide' it. Now, many kids are attending their parent's weddings!
My parents were wed in 1938; always told us it was 1937. My sister started looking in the bible, where I
guess they thought they had to be truthful. She was just reading it, when she was about 12. Found out
my mom was pg when they wed on Valentine's Day...my bro was born in August. She only told me and my
other sister, we didn't let them know we knew! Now it is no big deal.
my 11 year old daughter goes to a catholic school.
although i no longer despise that religion as the anti-christ, as i believed it was when i was a young aventist many years ago, i still do not participate.
i will let my kids make up their own minds.
What a Sweet prayer, you have to be proud to have raised a daughter like that. I am going to print it and put it on my Frig, if that is OK with you? I don't have any little ones anymore, and no grandkids yet, so my frig is my prayer board.
Did you get answers about prayers to Mary and saints? If not, I'll try to reply tomorrow, it is late for me now.

i stumbled upon this site while looking for help.
my prob is there's this girl i really really like alot.
she's beautiful, smart, has a great personality and i love being around her.
Good luck to you, trying to reach a JW...it is a tough row to hoe. I have 2 family members who are IN and
a friend who was in. DO NOT bring up the Trinity. It is difficult for some Christians to understand, I strongly suggest you avoid discussing it.
You have some great suggestions here. One thing that worked for me was to prepare, just on one issue..., go over it and over it in your mind. Pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance. I believe that helped me more than anything.

i was looking at my winamp playlist and i noticed that most of my songs were made before i was in grade school, or much more, before i was born.
moody blues - nights in white satin .
gene loves jezebel - desire .
How about Mack the Knife by Bobby Darin? I don't think Sinatra did it, at least not the original.
I can't think of any from b4 I was born, it was too long ago
i am very nervous about being in here.
i just got df'd last week and am unsure of how i feel about it.
i feel guilty but at the same time not.
Hi again Susu, just reading the great replies to your post. These people who have lived the life like you have are going to be such a support to you right now. Please, stay and listen to them. You are also welcome to 'write' me anytime.

i got back yesterday from newfoundland, where my nan had just died a little over a week ago.
i was pretty upset that i wasn't able to see her one last time as she had died one day before i got there.
all in all the family held up as well as can be expected.
Bless you. It sounds like you came through the funeral experience just fine; your nan would be proud.
peace,

Welcome susu. Please stay awhile, and meet all kinds of interesting 'folk'. Unlike you, I never was a JW, but have a couple of family members who are and I came here to learn. I have definitely learned. I learned that JW teachings are very involved, much more involved than what most of us "worldly" people even have a clue. I wish you well,
AuntieJ
ok, i am not a jw, never was, neither was he.
but today i am shunning him.
yesterday he went to a car show with a friend and drove home intoxicated.
Thanks Sith. The Serenity prayer has always been a favorite of mine. I've had a couple family members in AA; things are going better but we haven't discussed the episode. After 35 yrs, we probalby have a pattern, but I'm getting tired of it. BTW, you have such a scary looking Avatar but certainly have nice posts (well, at least THIS time you did...Thank you!)
