I agree. "Grace" describes God's love perfectly. "Undeserved kindness" is opening a door for someone.

I'm a new churchgoer, communion question
by pennycandy ini've only in the last month started attending a non-denominational church.
i was absolutely shocked by what i experienced, and not because of the lightening i thought might strike me down as i crossed the threshhold.
while many were attentive and friendly, no one pried into my religious history, or tried to railroad me into coming back.

Why aren't you guys working?
by pennycandy in.
as a stay-at-home mom, i can occasionally find a few minutes every few days to play on the computer, but the amount of activity on this forum during us working hours is pretty surprising.
folks from other parts of the world notwithstanding, how are you american members able to post during work hours?.

Thanks Else, I was waiting to see what you had in store for me. You never disappoint. Love ya.
Midget, I'll have to admit that I'm ignorant of about half the words you used in your post: IIRC, genuflect, host, ine hand . . . This church is non-denominational and very casual, so I doubt there will be any genuflecting going on, but this shows me I don't know much about the roman catholic faith : )

Yes, I can imagine sitting in the wrong place and being first in line. Going the wrong way, standing when I'm supposed to kneel, holding my hand out for the bread instead of opening my mouth.

I've only in the last month started attending a non-denominational church. I was absolutely shocked by what I experienced, and not because of the lightening I thought might strike me down as I crossed the threshhold. While many were attentive and friendly, no one pried into my religious history, or tried to railroad me into coming back. They respected whatever reasons I had for being there that day. They say worship is more important than rules, so come as you are. No dress code, no required reading.
The three times I've gone they've had people available to answer questions, or to help you as a new Christian, or to help you get comfortable with the church. You go to them, if you want, they don't come to you.
The joy that was there was truly heartwarming. The openness and acceptance was a stark contrast to the closed community of the KH. I don't feel that a person needs a church to worship, but in my case I'd like a place for fellowship and activities. I'm so glad I decided to take the plunge and go.
Referring to Dawn's previous post, yes, I think "grace" is a good word for what I'm seeing. For the first time in my entire life, I'm looking forward to Sunday mornings, and am considering attending another meeting for a little more indepth Bible study. I'm a little afraid to get into doctrinal issues. But at least I now know that I can choose what to believe and what to reject.
Communion is every second Sunday. Can someone who has experienced this give me an idea of what to expect and what to do, given my JW background? I have thoughts of doing it all wrong and really embarassing myself.

What made you "see the light"?
by hubert ini realize many (or all) of the ex-j.w.
's in this forum have either gotten out of the org., faded, or in some way have come to the conclusion that the watchtower is not the "faithful and discreet slave", and is not the "true" religion that they claim to be.
i am curious to know..... "what made you see the light"?.

For me, the first flash of light was at the Watchtower study in 1995, I think. Being only a mediocre witness, I hadn't studied, so was unprepared for the change in the "this generation" interpretation.
I sat reading the paragraph over and over, and wondering if I was understanding this correctly. I was shocked! As I looked around the room, every smiling nodding head seemed less moved by the change than if they just switched our bookstudy from Tuesday to Monday.
In one Sunday lesson, God's undeniable truth that was taught for decades was turned upside down, and all of a sudden was untrue. Now this other "truth" takes its place, and everyone in the room seemed to accept it without question.
I didn't leave until a few years later, but that one meeting shook me up, and my loyalty was no longer unquestioning. Of course, I thought I was the only one who had a problem with the change.
A few years later, when I fell in love with my "worldly" husband, I had to make a choice. He was okay with me being a witness, except for the blood issue, especially if we had any children. If I was going to risk being disfellowshipped for marrying out of "the truth" and possibly risking future children's lives by the no-blood policy, I had to confirm to myself that I was making the correct choice by staying in the organisation, and to me the way to do that was to verify the authority of the WTS. That was based on being chosen by Christ in 1918, based on Christ's presence in 1914, based on Jerusalem's destruction in 607 BCE. So 607 was where I started and I spent an entire year trying to find some way to validate 607, which just couldn't be done.
I had to admit the WTS was self-appointed instead of God-appointed, started grieving and then healing.
P.S. I'm happily married to my soulmate, have three beautiful children, and no "no blood cards" in sight.

Let's say "Bob" is the guy at Bethel who . . .
by pennycandy inopens and sorts the incoming mail.
having done this in past jobs, i know you can learn a lot about a company by its mail.
i imagine bob makes a stack of bills, a stack of personal correspondance, a stack of literature orders, questions from readers, etc.

I imagine Bob makes a stack of bills, a stack of personal correspondance, a stack of literature orders, questions from readers, etc. He also may make a stack of disassociation letters, a stack of threatening letters, a stack of requests for interviews from the media, a stack from lawyers informing them of intent to sue. Oh, don't forget the biggest pile . . . the contributions. What other stacks might he make?
The comment recently made about disassociation letters not being read made me wonder whose job it would be, and what gets tossed in the trash.

Oh, good. A tasty thread I can sink my teeth into.
Both me and Mr. Penny use either Colgate Whitening, or a natural herbal mint toothpaste from Whole Foods. I have to use the Colgate when I'm using homeopathics as the real herbal mint can cancel out effects of the remedy, but fake mint is compatible.

Some twisted psychopath kidnapped my brick!!!
by Elsewhere insadly i must report that shortly after my bricks were delivered to the construction site of my new house, some sick twisted psychopath went and kidnapped a brick for ransom!
granted, i must admit that there are some very suspicious circumstances surrounding the alleged "kidnapping".
i know that particular brick and he has always been a troublemaker and prone to violence.

Going public was a nasty mistake. Any more sly moves like that and (b)Rick will lose a chip.
Bwahahahaha
p.s. Sorry, but I don't know how to attach a photo so I'll just send it to Elsewhere and he can post it, okey-docky. Thanks.
