A letter to my parents... tell me what you think.

the other day my mom and dad called (

my mom called a few minutes ago...

) and i have been thinking about sending them a letter in responce.

Elsewhere - that's a great letter. I hope you don't mind - I'm going to steal parts of it for the letter I'm working on.

I can so relate to the flip flop adherence to JW doctine. I haven't responded to a letter my mom wrote me 5 years ago basically because I couldn't take it anymore. She always says "you know if you really need me I'm here for you." Of course, what does "need" mean to a JW? I can remember once crying on the phone begging her to let me come visit her. The answer was NO. Years later she denied that it even happend. As if I would make that up. I have so many examples like that I decided to stop collecting them.

Please let us know what kind of response you get.

1995 no big deal??

when i discovered - only recently - the the masthead of the awake was changed in 1995 to eliminate "our creators promise" i found it apalling.

it was a promise people!!

i am curious, did the wtbts write articles or discuss this radical change or did they just slip it in?

XQTP: Can you please expound on your comments. I didn't think they dropped 1914 - just the meaning of the term 'generation.' I think it is still related to 1914. And what about the sheep/goat thing? no preachin work?? you mean people just go in service on their own??

" i read it last year because i was considering joining a local scrabble group.

however, after reading the book, i realized i'm what the "word freaks" call a good living room player and nothing more.

I am curious, did the WTBTS write articles or discuss this radical change or did they just slip it in? Why doesn't it seem to be that big of a deal. In retrospect, I can't believe my mom sold her house and used the money to be a missionary in Equador in 1996. So it didn't even phase her. That just infuriates me. How does this compare to the 1975 scandal. Surely, they don't have the nerve to say that individual members were wrong in their expectations??

If anyone was in when that change happened, what was the general consensus at the time?

Also, do they have a new deadline? How long does the new "generation" understanding extend things?? Indefinitely?

my sister...... is a psycho!!!!.

she's "in feild service" sending out letters to people that didn't answer at the door.

(which is already a little too much) she dressed up in her meeting cloths, head to foot, in order to be presentable while she is writing those letters.

i say that because we have been trained to lie and not even give it a second thought!

we might intially call it "theocratic strategy" and we may utilize this "provision" so that the "good news" might be spread.

but more often than not, we bend the rules as we see fit, reasoning that it's not really lying, afterall!

Surely a lie is a lie is a lie. How can you quantify "the best liar" when a lie is a lie. Do dubs lie? Of course they do - we all do!

Yeah - but when I lie - nobody dies....I don't manipulate people so that they feel compelled to die for my lie. That's a BIG difference.

christ says god also forgave david's eating temple holy bread to survive and that god wants mercy not sacrifice.

WHO FEARS ARMAGEDDON?

the more time that passes, the less i even think about it.

i dont really believe in it but now and again i get a nagging fear of "what if we're all wrong and it is true" and boom big lighting rods and earthquakes come and shatter us all and i think damn and i almost beat jah on this one .

its so silly i know im right about my decison to leave the dubs but they psychologicaly messed with us for so long sometimes your like woah what if theyre right!.

omg - I just wrote that on another post. I don't feel that way anymore - but it took me a while to get over it. I am sure about my spiritual relationship and I am sure that God does not want me to be associated with a destructive cult. The other posts have said it all really. I think it just takes a while to re-program our brains after years of brainwashing.

I do think that mankind will eventually destroy the earth and our ability to survive on it. Its just part of the free choice plan. I don't understand it and don't like it but I also don't think it has anything to do with JW/WT "prophesy." We just LOVE our SUV's and continue to mindlessly destoy the ozone. But that's another topic.

I also agree that even if it is true....I opt for death over an eternity with a bunch of JW's. Now THAT would be hell!

What Got You Out of the Borg?

i have looked for this topic today, and didn't find it.

so i was wondering if you fine folks could tell me and others what was it exactly that got you out?.

sarcasm is welcome provided you tell us the real reason under it .

I wish I had some upstanding conscientious reasons for leaving but the truth is that I was 18, had just graduated from high school and there was a lot of pressure on me to pioneer and make the right JW decisions about my life after high school. I REALLY didn't want to pioneer - I couldn't stand going out in service! I began to have the feeling that I just wanted everyone to get off my back about it. I didn't plan or decide that doing drugs and having an affair with a married man would be the best way out --- but that's what happened. I got DF'ed and my life was a living nightmare for several years. I wish I could have been strong enough to speak my mind and just go to college. I was such a mess! But I also just knew intuitively that the Borg was not THE Truth(tm) -- although for a long time I harbored the fear of "what if they're right?"

Its so refreshing to be so far out of it and to really know that the Borg is packed full of lies.
