  er hope you dont mind me asking but i have got to the point now where i want to read books about the wts.

  (not felt able up to now).

  theres quite a lot to choose from at amazon i was wondering if any one would mind telling me which books you would recommend.

  CoC - Awesome read!

  I'm reading Steven Hassan's book Releasing the Bonds

  Very good book - good information about cults and it gives pointers on how to deal with loved ones who are in a cult.

  Bubba is my dog's nickname. His real name is Pugslie but he's kinda fat and lazy and loves to snooze on the couch...thus his nickname. He used to look like the pug in my avatar but now he's old and grey (and fat). Haha - gotta love him - He has NEVER shunned me!!

  well as you know ive got my mom out.

  the day before i went on holiday i was talking about my upcoming marrige and i mentioned that jws didnt have to marry in the past.

  she wouldnt beleive me so i lent her the big penton book to prove it.

  Hassan's "Releasing the Bonds"

  for those of you who have not read this book, i encourage you to immediately obtain a copy, especially if you still don't believe that jw's are a cult.

  although inactive and filled with doubts about the organization for a number of years, i truly disregarded all thoughts of it as a 'cult'.

  i figured that it was simply misguided men who thought they were doing the right thing.

  I know this is kind of an old thread but I just got the book and I can't put it down. I'm wondering if anyone has had any experiences with the techniques he teaches in the book? Any success stories?

  I love that he says people WILL leave cults. I have told myself for a long time that my mom will NEVER leave. So I'm feeling a little hopeful. That could be a bad thing though - I'm so sick of disappointment and pain.

  No, I don't really think so. I might be wrong - it sure is an enduring book. I think it was written by schizophrenics....to confusing, complicated and meaningless. What are we supposed to do with it all anyway? What's the point? If it was inspired by a loving god I think it would read more like it was intended to be read by a normal human being.

  I read a book called Conversations With God. I loved it and I think god communicates that way with me. Not by telling stories that seem to be literal but logically and scientifically could never have happened. (the flood, the talking snake, Jonah and the big fish, oh - and who was that guy that god told to kill his son - but then right at the last second - said "psych - just testing you!" C'mon!!! Really god!)

  Just my 2 cents worth.

  how every prophecy was applied to the "anointed" alone and not to us.

  how freddie tried to make jesus the mediator only for the anointed's prayers?

  Yes, Yes and Yes!! I do think it is a deliberate way to break the r&f's spirit. I think the BG are a bunch of narcissistic sociopaths who walk all over average JW's. Its disgusting - but also sad to think that so many people allow another human to have that much power and control over them. Where do they get off telling people that they have a line of communication with god and nobody else does. And why do people believe that?

  I going to picket my parents convention this weekend!

  ok, my parents have pissed me off so much with their denial and their refusal to even acknowledge my complaints against the borg.

  they pretend everything is perfect at the kingdom hall and expect me to play nice to their dub friends so as to protect their own reputation.

  this weekend in philadelphia, they are going to to their little convention and i have some evil thoughts.

  I remember feeling excited when there was talk of "the apostates" being at the convention. I never did get to see any. Maybe you will save a few - or at least plant some seeds! Good luck and enjoy yourself!

  Watchtower Lies

  a jw i have been debating with (who is df'd by the way) gave me the go ahead to send to him what i would consider times where the wt has lied or been totally dishonest with the membership, or just in general.

  does anyone have any clear cut quotes from the wt that are obviously deceptive?

  i already sent him a lot of info about 1874/1914, and also about some other stuff.

  I found a statement written by "God's channel of communication" in the "You can live forever in paradise on earth" book, c.1982, page 154, par. 2... that actually says.....

  quote " Also, the BIBLE said that all these things would happen upon the generation that was alive in 1914." end quote.

  This is my favorite. This is from Hubert on a recent thread. I don't know how to copy the words and the link. Of course, the BIBLE does NOT say that!
