  No 2019 Conventions in Ireland ?

  i may have got this wrong, but using the dreaded jw website, they seem to be directing the irish j.w's to go to birmingham in england this weekend.. is this correct ?

  they always used to hold two conventions in ireland, are there none in 2019 ??.

  probably the irish ones actually, truly, made a loss, but think of all the travelling, including a flight or sea ferry crossing if i am correct.

  After leaving the JWs - Has anyone stayed with Christianity?

  i recently made the decision to stop studying with my study conductor, due to a situation i found myself in that led to a high possibility of my unbaptized publisher "rights" being taken away from me.

  i have since told my study conductor i have joined a new church (to which she dropped me like a hot rock, of course).... last time i posted on here, i was progressing nicely towards baptism, and was well into it.anyhoo, i like my new church, very hillsong-esqe.

  so just wondering if anyone else has stayed the course of christianity after leaving the jws, and if so - where did you go?

  "The righteous were more damaged by their righteousness than the sinners were by their sin"" - John Ortberg.

  I think the above sums up legalistic works and rule driven Christianity. JWs fall into this group. Their message is that our denomination is better than your denomination, in fact membership of our church is essential for salvation.

  The good new is that there are plenty of grace centred churches out there offering authentic Christian teaching, support and community but without the judgmentalism.

  Hillsong is a great church, as is Holy Trinity Brompton in Central London.No doubt there are many near you if you go and explore. Suppress the divisive and unfounded thought that only one church has the "truth". Go where you feel comfortable, ultimately Christianity is about a relationship with God, not membership of any particular church.

  the other day i ran into a jw who just happened to be my very friend during my jw days (which were most of my life).

  so for about 60 years we were each other’s very best friend.

  we grew up together from about 8 years old and are the same age, now in our early 70’s.

  Sixty years is a long time to know someone, you really bonded together with interests other than a common religion, after your wife it would appear he is possibly the most significant person in your life, and he will have the utmost respect for you.

  There's much to be said for rekindling the bonds of friendship, there's very little, if any, downside from your perspective and rather than be sad you have left "the truth" he may have a secret admiration for you being your own man, whereas despite his intellect (and his doubts) he's suspended his critical thinking abilities, and he knows it!

  I'd go for the interview.

  Higher Education

  just spent 8 hours in a 1 day elders school last weekend.

  clarification given: "moving forward any elder, ms, or pioneer who themselves or someone under their roof enrolls in higher education, may no longer qualify for privileges in the congregation.

  their qualifications will have to be reviewed by their boe.".

  . What are some situations that may raise questions about an appointed man’s qualifications? [The following examples should be conveyed]

  • He confesses to viewing pornography

  • He frequently misses congregation meetings and has limited participation in the field ministry because of his secular work

  • He or a member of his immediate family is pursuing university education

  • His child becomes involved in serious wrongdoing while living at home

  Above is from official Watchtower outline from avoidjw.org, part 2 appointing an elder, apparently pursuing a university education is viewed on a similar level to viewing pornography, the lunatics truly are running the asylum!

  As a JW how would you answer this if someone brought it up in the ministry?

  as a jw i pretty much just went along with what was taught from the platform i didn't do any real bible study.

  as a result, now that i am out of the org.

  i find scriptures that blow my mind.. i am not sure how i would have reacted if someone had pointed this out to me when i was a jw but now i can't believe i've never noticed this before.

  Some wise advice above from people who've exited successfully!

  When I began my fade a concerned elder approached me, when confronted I simply told him I was taking a sabbatical from meetings...but why..I'm just taking a sabbatical...end of conversation.

  Be polite but firm, you haven't got to answer any questions at all as to your beliefs, if you want to be a little mischievous you could say you've reallocated the time spent at meeting to reading Russell and Rutherford's books to get a better understanding of the history of the organisation and you've found it really interesting, perhaps they would too!

  So my advice is simply go off the radar, like any other club or association resignation is not necessary, you simply stop going or paying your dues.
