The Farmers Branch city council ( a suburb of Dallas, Tx.) has voted unanimously to make English the official language of the cityJim-_TX
The company that I work for has a production/assembly facility in Farmers Branch, TX. I can tell you - for a fact - that there is a larger majority of 'other' nationalities - and not Hispanics. I am not sure the nationality... it's some sort of Asian cultures... and not just one. Several.Whatever the nationallity of the "legals" or "illegals"..........if you want to live in a country that is not your birth country.....then learn the language. The Polish, Hungarian, Czechs, Croats, Serbs, and many more who came the the U.S. shores 100 years ago might have kept their original "tongue" at home and in family but the majority learned the language....broken as is may have been.......of their adopted country. It was a must in order to become a U.S. citizen (the dream of the majority.) And I am out front in the statement....."This is America. Why should I have to press #1 to continue in English?"
I do..however..agree with the work ethics of the newcomers to the U.S.. Their work ethic puts most of us Americans to shame. They will do what it takes to better themselves. On the other hand....we have too many "original" U.S. citizens (and I don't mean the American Indians) who think they have "entitlements" (and I'm not pin-pointing any race either....so don't even go there) without any effort at all. And they are the ones who probably do the most bitching about "foreigners."
Who is to blame for the influx of "foreigners" and "illegals?" Hmmmmmmmmmmmm............could it be the same ones who are in charge of the policies of the U.S. government? I think they are called POLITICIANS!
Just the two cents worth of someone who has spent almost 45 yeas in industry and labor.
