well i got home from nashville early this morning.. .
i had a good time on the trip.. .
tuesday morning when i left it started raining, and it rained all the way to cookeville tennessee, then it stopped and the sun came out.. .

Glad to hear you had a good time. I sure wish I could hear about these events ahead of time so that I could take a trip and enjoy things like this. Seems that I'm in a rut when it comes to activities and events.

have any of you or people that you know such as relatives or friends, made a very significant donation to the wts?
by that i mean property, or money in excess of let's say $10 000. .
enriching an already very rich organisation has to be moronic, they are the ones that should be helping the poor among them the proverbial orphans and widows.
In thirty plus years as a JW I never gave much at all because they said there is no emphasis on money.
At the last KH I attended at the turn of the century (about 1998-2000) an older sister was quite ill and gave power of attorney to the PO. Since I was frequently missing meetings at that time, I missed a lot of what was going on. But when I did go.......and this older sister was home from the hospital and attending some meetings, she told me that the PO was trying to get her to sign her house and money over to him. At first I thought it might be a little dementia, but after talking with another JW who was a little disgruntled and also a close friend of mine..........he confirmed this to be true.
At least her mind was still good enough to not give in to this PO. When she died I was a pall bearer at the funeral and some were a little miffed at that because my attendance was so bad. I imagine that after her house was sold......everything went to the cong. or the society. I never stuck around to find out.
Yes.......there are a bunch of money grubbing con men that are JW's......the biggest money grubbing being those at the top.

besides giving up our time and assets,is there anything that you particularly felt that you truly "gave up" to become or remain a witness?
I ran away from some very good friends. Gave up a great hobby of drag racing of which I had a lot of money tied up in a great Ford at the time........and it was very fast..........and I sold it for a song just to marry a JW girl..........who I actually loved with all my heart and had a wonderful marriage with until her death in 1996.
Gave up smoking......which was a good thing.
Gave up hunting and fishing..........two things I had a passion for.
Gave up the dream of becoming a Pennsylvania Fish and Game Warden because it was required to carry a gun.
Gave up my reasoning ability to be a part of the "WHOLE".
Gave up my self respect because I WASN'T allowed to think outside the box..........thus I became an ALCHOHOLIC.
While an elder..........in 1989 started attending AA meetings and slowly started to have my eyes opened to the fact that there were many good people in the world who WERE NOT JW's.
Was finally able to say................F..k Y.u Watchtower in 2000
Then I gave up the Jehovah's Witness religion as the last straw and have lived happily everafter.

i've been on the board for quite a while now and was wondering, what do my fellow jwdr's do for work, employment or career?
me, i'm in probably one of the most hated careers in america right now.
(not gonna tell you what it is either) but how about you, what do you do to earn a little coin?.
I make money..........in fact.........I made BIG money when I had a sideline printing business in the early 1980's.
The money I made was so BIG ( about 3/8 of an inch too big) that the Feds arrested me for counterfitting and thus ended my career of making BIG money.
Anyhow..........when I had that sideline.......I thought of making fake bills but didn't have the plates to do it. Back then........there was no computer and scanner enhancement.
Seriously now..............I am a retired machinist, mechanical repairman, expediter, job estimator/planner (all thiese jobs were grouped into one where I worked.............which is now called multitasking) and worked for United States Steel.
Now I am a private consultant/contractor working for the same company.......in the same plant..........in the same shop...........in the same office............doing inventory control that was not done since my retirement.........and they wanted me to come back for 4 months to take care of it..............and as of now.........I've been there for 1 year as of Sept. with no end in sight. (HEY..........THEY CALLED ME FOR THE JOB) I'm not complaining though..........the money is good.........and since I have it all under control and they love me.........I've read 28 books so far this year while sitting there........and solved hundreds of crossword puzzles too.
If it is their wish..........I will do this until January of 2009 when I can get Social Security and then I quit.

born and raised in the borg.. i haven't posted for some time.
i got divorced from my jw wife, of 25 years, after living with another woman for almost 1.5 years [knew her for 3 years] .
the divorce that was my doing was last dec. 06. the divorce went through but all the financial settlements have yet to be agreed on.
So.............you ruined your marriage..........messed your wife and kids over for a strange piece of tail..........and got divorced............DF'd.............and at the time.........couldn't care of the consequences to follow............then the strange piece of tail dumped you...............and now you are in bad straights financially and every which way but loose...............and you want to try to reconcile with your ex whom you say you still love and maybe she still loves you..........and you would like to FAKE reinstatment!
WOW!!!!!!!!! You sound like so many others I have had the experience of knowing or hearing about as a JW.
Go into strange waters and then after a few years of debauchery with that strange piece of kitty....realize that what you did was crazy.
Hey dude...........you are the one that fuc#ed your own life up and now you are somewhat sorry for it.
Who's to say you wouldn't do the same thing again? If you were an honest......seriously believing Jehovah's Witness who really wanted to repent, then I would feel an inkling of understanding, pity, and sorrow for you. But you were and still are a fraud since you want to FAKE your reinstatement to get your family back.
You got what you deserve. And just think about it..........Do you really deserve to get your family back and screw them over again?
I just hope your really love your family enough to be truthful and sincere about your motives.

so i am not going to meetings, but am a fader.
the wife and i get invited to a wedding.
by friends from years back.
Except for the fact that they won't let go of their JW beliefs, they are really no different than
anyone else. Some of the folks do not shun their own adult children because they feel deep down
that it is wrong, plus they want to see their grandkids. People go out of their JW thinking to
justify association with family that never got baptized.
Oh how true this is! I have a bro-in-law who still clings to the WT because he never knew anything else and it is a great crutch for those who have nothing in their life. He.......his daughter and son (my niece and nephew) still talk to me and my daughter. In fact....they are very close to my daughter and would never abandon her because she left. It is the thought of me and my daughter that if "uncle and aunt" decided they no longer wanted the "truf" they all would run away as fast as they could. Some conversation has been that they think a lot of what is coming out of Brooklyn is BS. Man...........I wish they had their eyes opened! Even when my niece and nephew were DF's a few years back.........they all quit the KH for over a year. Then bro-in-law got a guilty conscience.

As a social organization that requires no charity or community service it can be a sweet deal.
How right you are Terry.
Could some of this be the reason the WT is selling off so much property? Maybe they themselves see the handwriting on the wall and still refuse to acknowledge their folly. Then again........they probably really think that they have always been and are STILL right about everything. So selling off real estate is just divine inspiration because the end is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo near.
