If you could give a "local needs" talk what would the topic be?

Character development ( which the society frowned on in many quotes in the publications. They said they're main focus was on the preaching work, not character development)

The old Andrew Carnegie course should be mandatory for all bros "reaching out".

And most of all................Being Christ Like! (not just the preaching. You know.............HE knew how to show real love.

I regret the course I took for many years as an elder, but then again, I was a slave that really bought into it. Forgiveness is what I ask for being so blind if I have stumbled and offended any of my fellow humans in the borg.

for those who like WWII aircraft

e'man, because of his new avatar pic, has inspired me to start this thread.

i've always had an interest in wwii millitary aircraft since i was a child.

i just wondered if anyone else had the same interest and could post pics of their favourite military aircraft from the same era.

Now here is a subject that I really love. Old aircraft. Especially military. If I can learn to scan pictures into my computer and post them, I am sure you will enjoy them. There are pictures of a lot of early aircraft that has appeared here at the local airport. B-29 Fifi, B-24, B-17, B-25 and many more . I make sure to take a lot of photos when they are here. In fact.......at the end of July, the B-29 Fifi and a B-24 and some others will be here in Pittsburgh for display at the Allegheny County Airport. Sponsored by the local chapter of the Confederate Airforce. The name has been changed to The Commemorative Airforce in order not to offend anyone. (Screw political correctness)

In 1997 I passed and received my private pilot license and the greatest thrill I ever had was getting to know Christine St. Onge personally. She is the owner of a Beech Staggerwing and she let me fly it in a group flight over Pittsburgh. In that group was the B-29 Fifi in the lead, a B-24, B-17, a C123, The Staggerwing and other vintage aircraft.

Witnesses are broke

i realize i risk making an over-generalization here, but i notice that many witnesses are just broke or nearly so.. this was reinforced with a recent incident in which i learned that only a few people in the congregation have any.

I made real good money in the steel mills until they shut down in the mid 1980's. But never saved a dime 'because the end was just around the corner'! Since then I have had several good jobs because of my trade but never saved a dime. Why 'because the end was just around the corner. Now fast forward to the past few years. When I look at what I was able to save since kind of scares me. I am not and never will be "really set financialy", but if I could have started saving like this about 35 years ago........I would be VERY financially set today. I could over my but I won't. I am HappyDad today.

What really bothered me over the years was the fact that others (including fellow elders) who thought the end was coming soon bought new homes, invested, and did all sorts of things to accumulate money and "material" things.

Did they and do they really believe these teachings of the WTBTS?

But now I have what money can't buy! FREEDOM.............YEAH.

okay, i know it is corny, but my daughter graduates college tomorrow, may 29th with a bachelor of arts degree, major fine arts.

she is an accomplished student and painter.

she took an extra year because while a full-time student she also worked 20-25 hours a week.. .

When I read Silent Lambs update last night it took a while for me to realize that was Bill in the pictures. It seems that he has died his hair brown. That is probably why they didn't recognize him. LOL

What first gave you doubts ?

we all know the big problems with the wts, but what was the first thing that made you realise there were problems with the organisation ?

with me it was realitivly small stuff like an 8 year old getting baptised and a comment my best mates made about another of our friends asking if we should be hanging round with her as she might be bad assciation (she had just been reproved, but they had been mates 20 years).. .

how ever the first time i ever thought something was really wrong was when i was about 11 and my grand farther died, and mu mum wouldn't go to the funeral, i remeber thinking that surely it was better to say good bye properly than worry about if the service was in a church.. .

RIP 1934 -2004

after a relatively short battle (5 weeks) my great aunt died this am at 02:30. of course she'd been ill much longer, losing weight, but she hated visiting doctors, and never wanted to make a fuss.

i saw her on tuesday, and felt embarrased to stand at her bed as she looked so bad after what the cancer had done to her, reduced her to someone i hardly recognised.

what happened to that glamorous woman of not so many years ago, immaculate in every way?

Sympathy to you ScoobySnax,

I'll have a couple for you and her also. Not easy watching a vibrant person waste away from cancer or any other disease. I saw that happen to my wife 8 years ago with ovarian cancer. She was only 46 and the love of my life.

Plan's for this Memorial weekend?

what are you all planning on doing this weekend ?

i was planning a cook out with my family but as usual here in wisconsin it is going to rain ,some thing it does almost daily.

so what are you all planning ?

Me....I'm going to ride my bicycle on the trail that stretches for 100 miles along a scenic river here in Western PA.

I try to ride a couple of times a week but at most do a 36 mile round trip. Why I even joined the trail councel and am a trail monitor and also volunteer to do maintenance and clean-up on weekends.(and I get to meet really nice people who will probably die at the big A)

Why I even get to turn a monthly time report in! Really......the 'voluntary' time report is just for info purposes as to when the trail is being monitored. When we ride as official monitors (that means we wear our official t-shirts and carry a first-aid kit and a tool kit) it is for safety reasons. Many walkers and bikers on the trail stop us for questions when they see us. They look at us as their safety link. If you want to see about this trail........just type in Yough River Trail on your keyword. It if fun and I really need the exercise.

What first gave me doubts? DITTO on everything said here. I'm just so sorry that it took the death of my wife 8 years ago for me to start my search for the way out, even though I had growing doubts and heart ache for decades.

Mulan mentioned the prodigal son...........if any here still believe in the saving grace (not undeserved kindness) of Jesus Christ....then I highly recommend the book.."What's So Amazing About Grace?" by Philip Yancy.

This book was a gift to me a year ago and I learned more about love and forgiveness in the time it took me to read the book than I did in 30 + years of reading WT repetition.
