in my congregation, there is a well established group that does phone witnessing every thursday.
the society actually encourages us to try other avenues of ministry, however it seems like phone witnessing is hurting more than its helping.... even i, the covert apostate, don't mind phone witnessing.
i mean whats not to love?air conditioningfoodsitting around and talkinggirlsdid i mention food?.
When my old KH tried pushing phone pestering witnessing over 10 years ago, I came right out and said.. "I don't like it when telemarketers call me and if I do that, then I am no different than a telemarketer." Nothing was ever said to me and the entire idea of using the phone to bother people was a failure in my KH.

after 9 long months of living in a shelter at the y here in ottawa in one tiny room --- .
i have finally got a place to live.. it is small and i will have to get rid of a few things - ok a lot of things but i will have a home again.
it is a small apartment in a seniors residence.
Welcome back Lady Lee and we can't wait until you are pounding the keyboard every day.

I forgot to mention in my first post on this thread that I recently read "Truth Or Consequences" by Roy Milton exJW.
It's his story of how he learned the JW "truth" along with the love of his life, their marriage, children, and years of serving the organization. Then he learns the real "TRUTH" and his wife divorces him and his kids have shunned him since. Makes me hate this sect/cult even more!
I highly recommend the book, but suggest you have tissue handy.
I'm going to order Captives Of A Concept next and possibly one or two of James Penton's books. Also heading to Barnes and Noble again next week.

just curious - it seems like there are quite a few ex-elders around the site....how many are you?
i enjoy reading stories from the inside...
Baptized in 1970 after knowing about the "truf" since 1961.
Served as an elder from 1986 to 1991.
the bottom line is that a decent compasionate elder will not be an elder for long as the mindset of the org is non compassionate he will either step down or get removed.
I guess this is the reason I resigned........The mindset of my fellow elders.....not only in my KH but all the others I dealt with.
To me.....putting an uneducated and untrained man in the position to supposedly guard the spirituality of others is like taking a high school dropout and putting him in charge of a fortune 500 company.
Most elders and ministerial servants I ever knew were totally enthralled with the position rather than the responsibility. The elders especially tried to weasel out of any sheparding assignments.

Just finished "The Greatest Generation" by Tom Brokaw. It's been out since 1999, but I just got a copy. Very good read!
Am now re-reading "Crime And Punishment" by Dostoyevsky. Been 40 years since the first read. A great classic!

my personal thoughts are this.
with the population aging and with jw's becomming incresingly poor, there will be a lot more elder abuse, and i don't mean congregation elders, but elderly people.. does anyone know of this taking place in the congregations?.

The last congo I was in about 1998-99.......an elderly sister who just thought the world of me (because of our same ethnic backgrounds)(and who was in and out of hospitals due to age related health concerns.......she was in her 80's) confided in me that she made the PO her executor and also gave him power of attorney since she had no other family. She went on to tell me that the PO wanted her to leave HIM her house when she died and tried his best to have her change the will. And that some money was missing from her accounts. The dude already had his own home but I guess greed raised its ugly head. This was confirmed to me by another Bro. who I was very close to.
Well, this Sis. would not give in to him and still had enough mental capability to call an attorney to give everything to the KH upon her death. (I guess you could say that her assets were still wasted because this KH is still meeting at the very old and outdated building) At this time I was already inactive and I went to her funeral anyway because she was a gem. The real surprize came when an elder from the KH asked me to be a pall bearer because he knew that this old Sis. loved me.
At least she is at rest now......whatever awaits us beyond!

Man, you are in a bad situation. I don't mean to be rude but the truth of the matter is this.
If you get baptized.......even though you don't want to.....the rest of your life may/will be miserable if you go through with this.
I'm sure that you really love this girlfriend, but you will have a lousy and possibley short marriage if you don't really want to be a JW and she does.
Maybe because of my age, but I can easily get over a lost love and many of lifes curve balls and sucker punches these last ten years. It may hurt you deeply and for a long time, but my advice is to get out of this romance before it drains you of your love for life and all the good things and good years yet to come.
Becoming a baptized JW now will just be the beginning of you looking in the mirror and hating yourself for "caving in".

I've talked to Onacruise and Biker Chick several times and exchanged photos. They are wonderful people and I immediately felt a kinship to them.
I've also talked to gold_morning (still do often) and met her. My life was changed for the better because of it.

some of you may know, but i have been on a serious journey through watchtower "theology", and by association, have gone back all through the history of christianity.
i know many on this list have gone thru the same thing.
i have checked out probably 100 archeological, religious, and history books from the library.

is this issue of the watchtower being part of the un department of public information of any significance?
at the district conventions of jehovahs witnesses there are flags of the united states and other sovereign government such as states or other countries hanging from the buildings.
the governing body and the watchtower society rent buildings which become the equivalent of kingdom halls for the weekend.
The organization is lead by Jesus Christ through the Governing Body.
Does this mean that Jesus is causing all the heartache and grief that is happening to so many who are only wanting to worship Jehovah to the best of their ability? Does this also mean that Jesus doesn't give a hoot about his sheep by appointing (through holy spirit) a bunch of idiots who don't have a clue about what it is to make a living, pay bills and raise a family?
As I said, It is a non-issue.
Then why did you start another thread on the same subject? Were you afraid to read the comments from your first post?
