  Should an Elder be involved in any of the following????

  i am asking for a simple opinion here.

  according to the latest jw "laws", should and active witness, much less one serving as an elder, do any work for military institutions such as the air force, navy, and u.s. army?

  From my limited knowledge, but what I was involved with while an elder..................

  A dub I personally know had this dilemma about 20 years ago. Dub had a very good job working at a nuclear laboratory. Problem was......once said person became a dub and learned about not working as a defense contractor, dub had a problem. Dubs paycheck came directly from the U.S. Navy. Other people worked with the same lab. Some got paid by a contractor, others by the Navy. This dub became very concerned about this situation. After consulting Brooklyn, the dub was ordered lovingly told to find another job within a specified time. From a very nice position and a good paycheck, this poor JW has been cleaning offices ever since. She is a very happy camper to this day thinking that Jehovah will soon take care of everything.

  I will admit it though. This sister is a very humble and sincere person. One of the few I knew who could be trusted.

  As long as your paycheck doesn't come from the U.S Navy, Army, etc. it is ok. Most consultants receive pay from another party connected with the Dept. of Defense or other govt. entities.

  So according to Brooklyn, it is ok to do work for these entities as long as you are not directly paid by them.

  DID YOU EVER 'EMBELLISH' YOUR FIELD SERVICE REPORT???

  just wondering if anyone ever did put down more hours/placements etc on their report than they actually did.. i know that i did.

  the reason was that i was pioneering and working full time.

  it just got too much and i ended up adding hours.

  I don't know about embellish, but I certainly did some "creative number crunching" through most of my career as a JW. It was an ordeal for me to make a 10 hour month. In over 30 years I never once aux. pioneered. And in the mid 1980's I guess the hours were enough to appoint me as an elder. Once I resigned as an elder I went right back down to 3 or 4 hours a month. If I happened to get more than that, you can bet that a nice portion was spent in a coffe/donut shop. We used to say......."It's time for our return visit on Mr. Dunkin." (refering to Dunkin Donuts).

  The last cong. I was in shocked me. The very prominent elders I worked in FS with were the worst (or for that matter, the best) offenders when it came to taking a very extended break. Then one or two calls on the way home!

  No matter what.......knocking on peoples doors was the most obnoxious thing for me to do.

  what's the strangest or most exotic food you've ever 'experienced'?.

  for me, i suppose, it was badly cooked (i cooked it myself, say no more) crocodile....i'd like to try swan, and if i can find a loophole in the law, i will.

  Don't know how true it is but I was told at a very stylish resteraunt that if the menu has "swordfish steak" listed........it is usually shark. Can anyone verify this?

  My exotic eating list only has octopus and rattlesnake on it. Not bad!

  But I really love calimari (squid). One of the most fantastic appetizers in the world. edited to say.......almost forgot! I ate groundhog and it was delicious.

  septembers end i am going to santana.... i think i am afraid to drive the car for fear that i will crash and not get to see them.

  dansk (ian) is in the hospital.

  as you know, he posted to us on wednesday morning (after the tuesday night vigil) saying that he felt very bad.

  claire ended up having to go home from work because he was feeling so weak and having some trouble breathing.. here are her emails.

  An End To Shunning

  well, in my case anyway.

  for those of you that may recall my posts about my family and that after i left the wts, how i wrote long (and painful) letters to my nonjw children among others.

  i had tried to explain why i had shunned them and how very sorry i was, and for all the mistakes i had made throughout their childhoods as a jw mother.

  I can't believe that this big old guy shedding tears of joy and sniffling would make my day, but your story is absolutely beautiful.....and it DID make my day.

  WOW..........I'm so happy for you. What a beautiful reward to get after all these years. Guess we were all whacked out as JW's, huh? To think what we did to family because of this man made cult! I'm glad you are out........and glad I am out.

  Your story makes me count my blessings that my ordeal is totally over and relationships restored. My heart and feeling go to those who still are putting up with the pain in the aftermath of being JW's.

  And you are right!

  This IS from AA. It meant a lot to me and was one of the many things that helped me see through the facade of JWism when I first went to AA as a JW elder (believe it or not).

  thee midnighters tonight he's substituting for their regular trombone player and they are opening for kool and the gang at the pechanaga casino in temecula, ca......tonight!

  he called all excited, this is just one of many times he's filled in with the midnighters but not for a big show like this and it's sold out!

  i'm excited for him it's good exposure, whooohooo!

  I've been here in southwest Florida visiting my daughter since the beginning of the month and working for my son-in-law. Now I really know that I don't want to move here permanently anytime soon. This heat is a killer! I have two more weeks to go and then I go back to western PA. Their temp there hasn't been much different than here though.

  At least we have seasonal changes up north.

  Only problem is...............once it gets cold..........I'll be bitching just as much! "OHHHHHHHH......it's so cold here in PA. I can't wait to go to Florida again."

  Just wish I had enough money to be a snowbird. But that will never happen unless I hit the lottery. I love my daughter, but living in the same house together is not in my plans for my golden years. Just visiting from time to time is nice though! Guess I love my personal freedom too much.

  If a J.W. went to a Catholic Hospital......?

  had to go to a catholic hospital ie: st. mary's, st. stanislaus, etc.say, in an emergency, but was admitted and stayed there for a few days, would he/she get reproved or disfellowshipped?.

  would there be an hlc there to make sure that person didn't receive blood?

  can the hlc gain access to the j.w.

  I would firmly say..........."Nothing would happen to anyone going to a Catholic hospital.

  Here in Pittsburgh, PA from the 1950's until the late 1970's........my family Doctor was a JW in very good standing who was attached to a Catholic hospital. In fact, my daughter was born in that hospital and many JW's in the area would not have another Dr. but him.

  About 1978 or so, a whacked out newly baptized Bro. who was once studying to be a Catholic priest, tried to make an issue out of this Dr. being attached to a Catholic hospital, but he was put in his place by all the powers that be.

  At that time, the society said that a person was not necessarily belonging to Babylon The Great if they worked for a hospital that had a Saint's name. ie....St. Jude, St. Joseph, etc..........

  It was stated that many investors, not only the Catholic church, owned parts of many hospitals as well as insurace companies, etc.

  As for having "written" facts about this.....sorry, but other than this local Dr., I only remember one article that might have been a question from readers addressing this subject.

  I wouldn't worry about it, but it would be nice if someone had the published opinion on this......YOOHOO.......Blondie........Quotes.....!!

  Just a side note to newspaper readers on the board. If an issue could really be made about what you read, remember.....the Washington Post is owned by the Moonies. YEP........the good old Reverend Sung Myung Moon!

  So I don't think thing like this would get one in trouble with the cong. Only joining the Y for their exercise equipment will get you in trouble. Typical Brooklyn BS!
