LOL! That would be hilarious!
I can only imagine the torture of the visiting spouse having to go through all the rituals...daily text...weekly family study...WT study...FS prep...Sat morn FS...ALL 5 meetings...and then keep up a tidy JW home on top of that! That's not even getting into having to put those pioneer hrs. in if the wife's she is trading with is one...lol!
I would even feel sorry for the JW family...having to put on the face of a perfect JW family...only to be judged by the world... and worst/more likely by your own JW "friends"

THE GENERATION OF 1914
by Mary init makes you wonder when exactly the governing body and their lawyers decided to change the "generation of 1914" doctrine.
the first quotation below is from the 1992 wt and the second one from the 1993 brochure the purpose of life, just two lousy years before they imfamously dropped the whole idea:
*** w92 5/1 p. 7 the 1914 generation?why significant?

The above is a lesson for those of us who may expect a softening of GB's current stance on blood, shunning and other polemic issues anytime soon.
I agree, that we should not expect quick changes. I do believe, however, that the elements are in place for a perfect storm.
The combination/convergence of a quickly aging GB (i dont think the newer members have the same level of loyalty/clout instilled in the underlings yet), the increasingly vulnerable/exposed stance on blood (it is becoming harder to sit on the current stance), the time/date expiration of 1914 (2014 is only 9 yrs. away), the internet, etc., etc. If things fall right the next few years will be very interesting.

What blows my mind is that it doesn't seem as though the rank and file witness has much noticed this. Isn't this a big deal??!!
A lot of individuals have already seen and acted on this change. But I believe that many more are not aware or have not grasped the significance of this change. There are many (especially old timers) who know of the change in an academic way, but still hope in their heart-of-hearts in the old generation understanding. They are too emotionally attached to the generation of 1914 not dying off and the hope of seeing a paradise. As 2014 approaches I think reality will begin to set in for a lot more.
As usual, when the time comes the WT will self-reference 1he 95 article as if this was the understanding all along.

How does the society explain 5 more partakers at the Memorial?
by lv4fer ini think it's kind of funny.
how do they explain more people this year than lasts?
i thought the number was suppose to get lower as they died off?

I had forgotten this -so he is 100 this year -mind you the WTBTS can put spin on this -see some people can live to be 100 - why some of our dear GB members ar ethis old -so Jehovah can see to it that since 1914 there wil lstill be some alive - somethink like that anyway
I believe that there are many who still have the 'generation of 1914' mentality and still have not grasped the significance of the 1995 change. There are even more who still don't even realize there was a change.
This WT's earthquake struck in 1995 with the change in this doctrine, and a lot of JWs took notice. In 2014 (100 yrs after 1914), a resultant WT tsunami may hit when the realization of what took place in 95 really takes hold. (Hope the comparison doesn't offend)

Have to think something through, wish I could use some of your advice.
by Daunt ini'm in a pretty tough pickle at the moment.
i was on this site before under another username but i haven't been here for a long time.
i am fully convinced that this religion isn't what it's cracked up to be.

I agree that you should think this through.
Though I dont know all the details, my suggestion would be to definitely finish the last yr. of school before considering moving out, as difficult as this may be. You want to assure yourself the best chance of success and at being self-sufficient. The last thing you want to hear are the "i told you so"s and have to at some point return home - so maximize your odds of success by finishing school. You already are finding out the truth about the Truth, so you are halfway home already.
Next, if you can get to college, do it. It will give you a forum to make new friends. If you can go to school away from home, the better you will be able to make a good break or fade.
You didn't say if you were baptized or not, but if you're not....don't !
You are young and fortunate to already be making the discovery many took years to make...enjoy!

by lost truth? ini have recently started a bible study, and think that i may like to be baptised.. i was wondering how long does someone have to study before they are baptised?.
also, i was wondering how many hours do people spend on their mission (door to door).
i would be thankful for any help, as i am just like many, searching for awnsers.

I will answer the questions, but first I would suggest that while you now have the opportunity, because you have not made the commitment of baptism, that you made a good investigation of what you will be committing to.
Most here are or have been affiliated with JWs in some way. I can assure you that the commitment is probably more than you now realize. Once you are baptized it will be much more difficult to leave voluntarily than you will find it is to join. Are you willing to give up all current friendships who are not JWs? Are you willing to lesson the commitment given to family members who are not JWs, and be willing to accept the belief that they will all be destroyed along with 6 billion others because they are not JWs? Are you willing to believe that JWs alone exclusively have the Truth, and be willing to accept that that is never to be questioned? Are you willing to accept that when God speaks, it is through the organization of JWs, and when the WT speaks it is as if God himself is speaking? For most JWs they are one in the same. Are you willing to accept the consequences that if down the line you find something that you cannot conscientiously agree with, that you will have no recourse or person to appeal to without repercussions?
Some here were life-long JWs who have had the difficult task of finding there way essentially alone. They investigated and found something that they could not in good conscience agree with, something they were taught as the Truth, and had to make a choice. This choice has consequences. Because of how JWs view all who are not JWs, they have had to go through the difficult task af rebuilding a whole new social circle of friends and family, because their whole social circle of JWs have nothing to do with them anymore.
Now is the time to investigate thoroughly what you are committing to, and not just from JW publications. If you wanted to find out about the reliability of a particular make of automobile, what do you think the manufacturer is going to tell you? the good or the bad?
Now to the questions.
1. Some have gotten baptized in around a year if they go through the study smoothly and start participating in field service as an unbaptized publisher
2. Through implication, the suggestion that you try to keep up with the national avg. which usually hovers aroung 10 hrs/mo. Many don't get that much, and many put down bogus hrs. because of the pressure to appear to be spiritual. There is also the constant message to see if you can "make room" to pioneer (50-70hrs/mo). These numbers are essentially a JW report card.
Hope this helps.

Yes Jeff. The Worship book is really a replacement for the United in Worship book, though it was never officially put that way that I know of. The wording is changed throughout, but it is essentially the same book. You can pretty much see this if you make a brief paragraph by paragraph comparison. The newer book omits 3 chapters though that were previously contained in the older United in Worship book, including chapter 20, Life and Blood - Do You Treat Them as Sacred?
For a Table of Contents chapter by chapter comparison go to this link and scroll to the bottom of the page.

As the old guard dies off and younger JWs accept the fact the WTS says blood fractions are a conscience matter, I'm sure the WTS will act as if this was the case all along.
I agree Blondie. If they can get past this hurdle, everything else is pretty much downhill and can be gotten past by the usual bs..especially with the new jw who have not yet gone thru the complete cycle of hope to disillusion...and WT world will go on.

What does Jermane say to the athletic kid in the cong who's high school basketball coach is begging her to try out
Actually I already know of a few who let there kids play sports and other extracurriculars that JWs used to not get a sniff at. I honestly believe that many are so new, they don't know any better, ..and I mean that in a good way and believe its a good thing. They are creating change. Many have no idea, or care to know, about the unwritten rules that we knew like the back of our hand.
