Yep, looks like the GB do serve a purpose by the WT in anticipation of worst case scenario--loss of tax exempt status. And it looks like the court caught on to the NY/Penn shell game being played.

Downsizing part 2
by Pistoff ini forgot the most irritating response to the downsizing: i have a close relative, who knows many of the new york insiders, who said this about those who were downsized kicked to the curb:
"it was felt that some were getting too comfortable"
what in the world does that mean?

Gregg Stafford returning to the Big O
by Amazing ingreg stafford posted on july 1, 2006 that he is returning to the organization.
you can read his article at: http://www.elihubooks.com/greg-stafford/another.htm.
his rationale and logic are most interesting.

The only power that JWs have is what they think they have and what other JWs accord them in this small world. That is why labels are so important in their world.
But Stafford doesn't have a label, and that carries its own prestige and exclusiveness. It is a position he is afforded and that means nothing to anybody, except in the JW-world.
While I don't think Stafford holds any position per se, I do think he enjoys the special prestige of being able to hover ever so slightly outside the rules other JWs have to live by, and flaunt it in his own way without repercussions.
As Randy said, time will tell.

Oh MAN are they ever annoyed in Brooklyn!
by MinisterAmos ini called the information dept politely asking if mr brown was still a witness after commiting verbal apostasy during the interview with ldh.. i got transferred to one of their legal staff and he dropped the "f" bomb and hung up!
i on the other hand was a complete gentleman.. i would call this a golden opportunity to play up what has to be one of the most embarrasing moments for the dub leadership but is actually an important issue that any current dubz should be concerned about.
what is the actual policy of the org?

Now which table has he been feeding at lately?
The bounteous spiritual table of Jah or the table of deemonz???...hmmm. Didn't know F bombs were heard in the spiritual paradise.

DC, all but gave directions to the JWD site
by ocsrf in.
i found the dc very interesting this year do to my reading of this site.
i took note that the danger of the internet was menitioned no less than three times, once with a demonstration showing a brother who found a site by a innocent search of the web on a jw subject to the very last talk, concluding remarks and final "resolution" that consisted of 10 items with number 10 staying away from dangerous sites and chat rooms.. makes you wonder what the real story is behind that much attention being given to this problem iof theirs.. oc

"hmmm let me just do a search for Jehovah's Witnesses"
If that was the exact quote, it is as about as close to a personal invitation to "search" as you can get. Somebody at headquarters is either very naive or very smart. You be the judge.

First I must say that you were very cool under pressure and I thought you got a great interview. Yes, he could have revealed more, but he is the PR guy, and he was skating the watered down fine line as about as close as a JW can. It is kind of disappointing what JR is reduced to shoveling now. I think you took it as far as you could without raising any flags.
I did find a some of his comments interesting and worthy of reference down the road. These are a couple of them:
- (8:20) He stated that there were no prophets like Jeremiah, Isaiah "or other prophets" in the organization today. And then answered "no, no" to the question of whether the organization was spirit-inspired or spirit directed. It was done in a quick perfunctory way, but done nonetheless. This would seem to be in direct contradiction to the following question for baptism:
"Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in association with God's spirit-directed organization?" - (11:20) We don't go out and say we are the only true religion. I haven't looked and don't have the inclination to, but I think there are many references that could be found where they say they are.
At around the 30 min. mark I got a good laugh when you said "other members of the...is it...Waco family?" and then quickly corrected that it was more accurately Wallkill by Brown. Nice touch for a worldly reporter.

The first question I would ask you is do you still believe in the JW beliefs? Do you want to return? ...and why? Because of family pressure?
It is seriously not worth it. Just walk away, dont look back and enjoy your life. I would seriously re-consider subjecting yourself to that kind of humiliating tribunal. The only power these guys have is what you give them.
If you are having doubts, but still not sure there is a lot a reading you can do to allay your fears. A good site to start with is freeminds.org, and then plenty of books (Crisis of Conscience, or something like Orwell's 1984 -- a book nothing about JWs but yet everything about JWs)
Stick around.

Cano Is The Tip Of the Iceberg
by metatron inis the watchtower organization filled with child molesters?
maybe not - but the cano incident should make us think about an allied problem,.
namely, general corruption and rot.. many years ago, it was not unknown to find strange photos and other materials in a bethel brother's room, after he died unexpectedly.. that doesn't prove that there is a massive problem with child molestation.

These Catholics who believed their religion, their faith is pure or right, did not indict their religion which they believe to be the true faith. You did not hear how millions of Catholics believe their Church is rotten from within now.
In some ways we are talking apples and oranges here. The r&f mindset of the average Catholic is completely different from the r&f mindset of the average JW. Most Catholics, unlike most JWs, have no problem acknowledging that their religion has flaws. In fact they may, especially in this country, openly defy official church policy on issues they feel strongly about. Most just see Catholicism as a way to infuse some spirituality into their lives. Many like it because of the tradition. Most Catholics don't have to believe their religion is rotten from within, they already know its not perfect and have very little expectation of perfection. In return they fully expect to live their own lives in unjudgemental fashion, not judging or being judged, realizing that they are not capable or have any wish to live up to any unreachable standard of piety and self-denial. Yes, of course they are repulsed by pedophile priest in there ranks. But they do not have to indict their whole religion, because they already know their religion is indictable on so many levels -- just look at the history, they can read too. Still they choose to stay because they want to, and, I might add, on their own terms as expressed though their actions. They live grace-based, not performance-based, and extend that same standard to the Church.
JWs on the other hand, refuse or very grudgingly, acknowledge any flaws in the religion. Why? Because it is all about pretense. It is what separates them from everybody else. They have a vested interest in making sure the religion stays un-indictable, and so they refuse to indict it themselves even when the evidence is staring them in the face. The JWs are measuring themselves and others with a totally different ruler than what Catholics are using. All they have is a supposed credibility which is shrinking measurably. On top of that they are a performance-based religion, and the r&f are tired of performing. JWs are a end time religion whose expiration date is closing in. It will be around for some time, but whether it stays in its current form is highly doubtful. Time is not on their side, the attitudes of JWs of today are very different from even a few years ago.
For many of us on this board, what is coming out is absolutely shocking by our old JW standard. But as more of these reports come out, this will be old hat (for lack of a better term) with tomorrow's JW. This is about credibility. Tomorrow's JW will realize that they are indictable, and will live their lives in less judgemental and more social ways than we ever did. JWs are already changing...from the bottom up.
