Is it the preaching, that makes JW's believe they have the truth?
by sleepy indo you think it is the fact that jehovahs witness do a very obivious preaching campian, that convinces them that it is the true religion.when all the doubts you can think off have been raised they seem to just say "well we are the only ones that do the preaching work".
without the preaching work would it be harder for people to cling on to the religion, what else could they fall back on to convince themselves,it would be very difficult.

Did You Stay as a Witness Because You Needed a Social Life & "Friends"?
by minimus inrecently onacruse made a comment regarding why many jws remain jws.
a lot of people look at religion as a way to get together and be social with one another.
let's face it, people need "friends".

The word that crops up for me is "conditional" while you are there doing the "right" thing people are happy to do stuff but when you leave they ditch you.
This comment has hit the nail on the head. Conditional is exactly what it is. I was on holiday recently with some good friends "all good JW's together" ....they have no idea how I feel. The conversation came round to "hours"........I expressed the view that we shouldn't record them, what's the point etc........I was amazed how quickly the 2 brothers turned on me, accusing me of Apostatism.......one asked the question "well if you don't agree with something that the FADS say what will you do?" ...putting me to the test.....I said "well I'd do it of course".....he replied "exactly...we don't question what they say, do we?"
Friendships in the truth are truly "conditional" which is really, really sad because there are so many sincere people in there. But I do also think that many are very unsincere because they have been bought up with this "conditional friendship" fear.......blobby of the fading quickly class

What happens when you loan a JW a book
by Nosferatu inabout a year ago, i had purchased a book (new) called "in sheep's clothing".
i had bought it for the sole purpose of learning to deal with my controlling, manipulative father.
my mother became interested in the book, and i let her borrow it.

I can appreciate what you say but I bought a book recently, get this ......."How to act like a CEO", I'm not the best reader in the world so I thought I would highlight all the interesting point's so i wouldn't forget them so easy..............it worked, I now have an easy to use ready reference.
But borrowing a book is totally different I'd be pissed too.

Looking for some advice...
by NKyGuy ini have been inactive for the past 5 years or so.
i just could not bring myself to sit through meeting after meeting of the same thing any longer.. however, my wife and children are still regular and as such are preparing to go to the district convention next month.. for the past 4 years i have been able to avoid going to it with commitments to work, etc.
unfortunately this year it is not the case and my wife has made it very clear that she expects me to go with her.. how do i express to her that i don't want to spend 3 days of my life in uncomfortable clothing, sitting in a hot arena, listening to information that makes me want to stab pencils into my ears?

You can do it, you just can't do it without pissing her off....Sorry.
The best so far !
Just to add, an old elder friend of mine said "you can say anything to anyone as long as you say it with a smile on your face"
It won't be easy but it has to be done............some time. The longer you take, the worse it gets

Do your acquaintances know you?re a JW (or former witness)?
by senselessly sane ini remember deliberately not telling people when i was growing up, and cringing when my mom made an effort to tell my teachers.
although i no longer hide it, there are still people i consider friends who do not know i grew up jw.
sometimes it?s just that the subject of religion does not come up often, and when it does, it would be weird to say something now after i?ve known someone for years and have never mentioned it.

Interesting question......
I'm in business and have usually waited for the right time to tell people, usually waiting till I know how they would take it. And if I'm honest, I've never had a bad reaction. But now I'm on the way out , its the last thing I will admit to !
Generally I think people react OK but if and when the truth comes out about the organisation as a whole, which it will, there's no way I want to be associated with it !
