Please provide straightforward answers to the questions presented. Nobody implied waiting 6-12 months. The scenario proposed was for a month - just a little more time to get this to happen without bombing baghdad to bits. Others have stated we don't need the UN and that's it's worthless, however if this is all done under the umbrella of the UN, it becomes a move made and supported by the WORLD, not just the USA, and that would mean a world of difference.

If they don't allow the troops in, again, the U.N. moves in by force. Again, a world decision, not the USA's.

You want to know how they are a threat to humanity? Ok, Iraq continues the cat and mouse game and develops not only WMD but also long range missles. Now they have the ability to hold the world hostage just as NK has done.

Again I'll ask, how are they going to actively develop these weapons under the noses of inspectors, troops and spy planes? ANSWER THE QUESTION PLEASE!!!

while you watch your britney spears videos...your freedom is being taken away.. while you cheer for your nba team and drink that beer...your freedom is being taken away.. while you watch cnn/msnbc/foxnews reports about laci peterson and shuttle disasters....your freedom is being taken away.. while you see one of the greatest misdirections about "condition orange" blinking on your sets....your freedom is being taken away.. while you hoot-n-holler for going to war with saddam hussien...your freedom is being taken away.. while you turn on your computer to surf the internet...your freedom is being taken away.. while you worry about what sports car to buy...your freedom is being taken away.. while you sit in your home with the heat on, enjoying 3 sqaures a day...your freedom is being taken away.. while you worry about your next job promotion...your freedom is being taken away.. while you are being suckered by the greatest sham from the u.s. government...your freedom is being taken away.. it's amazing, that very few here realize what the patriot act and dept.

No use in trying teach an old dog new tricks. Once they get caught up in their vision, any voice of reason cannot steer them clear an inch in either direction.

When discussing anything contrary to their vision, you're labeled as some negative political category that automatically labels you as insane and not knowing what you're talking about.

No matter what proof you provide, it's never good enough.

Anything that doesn't support the propaganda given to us by Fox network is a conspiracy theory and therefore merits no validity whatsoever.

Their arguments go round and round in the same predictable pattern every single time. Evidence for support of a statement is always based on an action they feel should have happened previously if the latter would prove to be correct and is never based on the facts presented. In fact, no matter how often you state the facts, they will without question go back to the same weak argument as support, when in essence the reality of life is that what happened 10 years ago happened 10 years ago. We're in a totally different scenario now - it's 2003 baby.

I find it quite amusing how people are so quick to label someone as a 'wacky conspiratist' or 'hard-core environmentalist' and then don't respond when you challenge them on what you say. It's too bad some people haven't grasped the fact that you cannot trust everyone, especially politicians. Just like the JW's, they paint a beautiful picture and bark a strong, convincing argument, but when you dissect the organization you find all the dirt and uncover the real story which is all about control of the masses which equals MONEY IN THEIR POCKET.

The similarities are so obvious it's scary. Sad to escape one and plunge head first into the other.

I'd have to agree with the subject of this thread.

D8TA, try reading the act for yourself instead of listening to those who want to return to political power by any means. You have not lost a single freedom at all. Troops are not roaming the streets gunning down innocent civilians. No one is being monitored due to religious belief or political leanings. However, I would agree that any who advocate the destruction of our civilization do merit monitoring. There are no mass concentration camps where "hundreds of innocent people" are being held. Yes, Al Qeada operatives are being held in Cuba and questioned. Last I heard, they weren't made citizens as they were captured. No one has shown any to be tortured or beaten, as their mentors have been known to do.

Of course the problem isn't now - we're talking about what may very well develop in the future. The very near future. Hopefully YOU ARE RIGHT and this policy will only protect us and incriminate those who are truly guilty of planning terrorists attacks on this country!

But what one must realize is that these very laws that are built on the principle of incriminating the potential "terrorist" can also incriminate US if we are suddenly considered a "terrorist" by the government. A "terrorist" could be anyone against the USA or supporting interests, political parties, etc. contrary to their regime.

It's just something to think and be aware of. Do you agree??

When is enough time enough? If Saddam has really destroyed the WMD, why all the stonewalling? The job of the inspectors are to verify the destruction of known WMD, not dig through the countryside seeking hidden weapons. Saddam hasn't accounted for WMD he admitted to having earlier. Why?

I understand what you're saying - 100%. By the books Sadaam needs to be ousted - he's broken the rules. I don't believe that's the issue here though. It's the manner in which he is ousted. A U.S. led bombing campaign or a U.N. led campaign that could potentially end with Sadaam giving up but would more than likely lead to a bombing/invasion by the U.N. troops and armies. Which to you think is the safer method for the world and why?

just what is it that saddam hussein has done/is alleged to have done... to warrant a war by the us upon his country, and the most certain result of mass murder of innocent men, women and children, as a result?.

now, i also ask you: please be careful in your response, as all i want are facts, versus emotional vengefulness... and such facts that say this is what he has done so that the us is rightfully entitled to war against iraq.

to that end, then, i would also ask that you make sure your reply takes into account that the us itself has not done similar... or equal... anywhere else in the world... so as to warrant the same result on upon them.. i await your response... and i truthfully bid you peace.. sj, a slave of christ, who is still trying to understand the "thoughts"... of earthling man... though i serious doubt i will....

Well, honestly, my last vehicle was a ford mustang (which i still own but don't drive)

I recently bought a toyota pick up truck simply because I'm a musician and i have to have a means of transporting my equipment.

I don't know of any electric trucks yet.

I'm in the process of selling my mustang so that I can buy an electric car to commute back and forth to work.

That's what I'm doing to save money and protect the environment - how about you?

I'm not saying previous administrations didn't do what they should've done either, all I'm saying is that Bush outrightly refused to sign Kyoto and has transgressed in his policies regarding the environment instead of progressing. If Gore was president now and didn't sign Kyoto I'd be pointing fingers at him too.

This isn't just about 100 mpg carbeurators either. I'm sure you've read the numerous other posts about alternate energy - there's a company in Arizona that's building homes that generate their own energy. Solar power, wind power, hydrogen, etc etc...you do realize that investment in such sources now would save us all money down the road, right?

You guys talk about "hard-core environmentalists" as if it's a bad thing. I don't understand what's bad about being concerned about the environment. ??? Why the negativity? Because you're that attached to your SUV? To your current lifestyle? Is that what life is for you?

You guys should come to California and see just how breath-taking the earth is in certain places. (not like this is the only place in the USA that's beautiful, because it isn't) Ever swim in a crystal clear river in America? You can in northern cali. Ever hike amongst the giant redwoods and sequoia trees? The earth is a beautiful place, and it's designed in such a way to support life if it's key components are not tampered with.

I live in a city that has clean air, but I work in a city that doesn't. When I make my way down into the "valley" 6 times out of 8 the smog is so thick you can't see the mountains in the background that you can see on a clear day. You think breathing that stuff in doesn't effect your health? Well, it does and it's not getting any better unless people make a change. I want to raise my future family in the best surroundings as possible, so yeah - i'm a "hard core environmentalist" and I'm damn proud to be. It's not all about "saving the animals" ya know - it's about preventing our two coasts from dissappearing beneath sea level in 20 years.

Yes, I agree that the Federal governement needs to do more but I've grown tired of screaming and pointing fingers at the Bush administration while at the same time driving giant SUVs.

So you give up and support them? This is your country too you know - everyone constantly yells about our freedoms and our rights, yet YOU don't stand up for your own?!?!

This is crazy. If this kind of reasoning represents the majority of this nation, this country is doomed. I'd be far more content in the mountains of Chile than amongst people who's only values in life are the size of their Explorers.

This is really depressing.

That still doesn't answer any questions posed. Nothing indicated sitting back and doing nothing at all. Unless waiting another month = sitting back and doing nothing. So in the time period it would take to multiply the number of inspectors, send in U.N. troops and fly spy planes freely over Iraq, you're telling me Iraq will launch a chemical attack on US soil? On a neighboring country? Sell a nuke to terrorists? The whole goal is to disarm Iraq, and the world is showing they want to do this by wanting to mount a massive search to find the damn things and destroy them. Why the rush to bomb Iraq? Why not let the UN take care of it altogether while the USA focuses on north korea?

I doubt seriously any of you ever participated in a High School debate class because your supposedly convincing arguments lack substanance.

i watch the news and all commentators act as if our winning is a given.

yes, we are the biggest, baddest nation; we have the nukes, but what if?

Okay.

I'm going to boldly go where only one person I've noticed has dared mention - briefly.

Bush has the potential to be the next Hitler if he wanted to. Seriously think about this.

Bush stages an attack on american soil just like Hitler did - blames Islamic terrorists.

Say things escalate to a full out war against Islam.

Marshall law breaks out in USA because Bush sends everyone of Arab descent in America to a concentration camps.

Gung-ho Americans who support him will be by his side - just like Hitlers Nazis.

Those who oppose will face the wrath of the government and be treated just like those of Arab descent. Their citizenship will be stripped and they will be either booted out of the country, killed or sent to the concentration camps.

Remember, they'd have the right to do this by means of the patriot act and homeland security....

The middle east gets nuked. An American city gets nuked. Europe, China and Russia team up together to get rid of the Hitler-like regime of Bush.

World War III starts.

Makes you stop and think though, doesn't it? The American people really need to stop and think long term. They need to honestly weigh all of the pros and cons. They need to get over this left/right/liberal/conservative bullshit and recognize we're treading on extremely thin water right now. This could SERIOUSLY lead to extreme turmoil in the Middle East and not enough Americans realize the dangers of that.

I say close every single nuclear plant in the world. The technology is not to our betterment. We haven't discovered how to even safely dispose of it, plus the threat of developing weapons from it is just too great.

If only the solving the worlds problems were as simple as simply listening to some lone, more-than-slightly-eccentric fuel/air mixture wizard working furiously in his garage in Peoria Podunkville.

ummm....it is that simple.

Or maybe I have it all wrong and going to war in Iraq to protect us from Sadaam and terrorists and simultaneously securing oil interests in the area will save our environment and prevent the poles from melting.

Real brilliant plan there. By the time we're done w/ Iraq, N. Korea will be making more nukes anyways, which they can slip to terrorists.

I say:

Let the U.N. and Europe handle disarming Iraq.

Focus on coming to terms with N. Korea. Get off the frikkin high horse and give the people some food so they'll shut their reactor down.

Sign the frikkin Kyoto Treaty.

Now that sounds like a plan to me. But with Bush calling the shots, we're going to further provoke an Arab nation that already hates us, and they'll discover ways to further terrorize us. Bombing Iraq ain't gonna solve shit.

Dave, I agree with ya, but I think our need for oil exists only because we refuse to pursue alternate energy. I'd trade in my gas vehicle for an electric one in a heartbeat, and I'd do anything the government encouraged me to do in order to make a step in the right direction.

Maybe someone from Canada can input what the government has done up there recently to encourage people to conserve energy? If I'm not mistaken they just signed the Kyoto treaty and are making steps to encourage energy conservation.

Point being, it's not an impossible feat, it's just seems like America is not willing to make the sacrifices necessary to pursue alternate energy. Reason being there's money to be pocketed w/ the pursuit of oil.

That's the only reason I can see. The Bush administration yet again shows a lack of foresight. This global warming stuff is serious s$@*. When flooding and winter storms start wiping out civilizations it'll be to late to start converting to alternate energy. The time to act is NOW.
