  OK, but I wouldn't really call it fear. If it was just fear then the majority wouldn't vote for Putin, and he wouldn't get elected that easily. It's a mentality problem. But you're right that the tsarist era and decades of opressive communism play a major role in it.

  :In Russia the people know you don't piss off the establishment, not unless you want a very long holiday in Siberia.
  
  Hey, don't get carried away. It's true Russia is not a fully-fledged democracy (although the current government won the last election for real), but you must have watched too much of Discovery Channel to suggest that people get sent to Siberia these days.
  
  Other than that, the Moscow ban on witnesses was inspired by the Orthodox Church. That the dubs give them good excuses is another story. But even Catholics don't have an easy life in Russia, so I wouldn't depend on the official reasons for the ban as an exemplary act of justice being done that should be copied elsewhere in the world. It's pure, disgusting hypocrisy.

  Since 99.99% of witnoids are "observers" rather than "participants", it makes perfect sense. I would even suggest that the Society should arrange for the annointed ones to get together in one place and have a fully-fledged memorial which could be filmed and broadcast online to all the congregations of the other sheep.

  i know you feel a bit bombarded with questions, but please if you could clear up just a couple of things for me that would be appreciated since i found your posts on the issue especially interesting.

  i must admit this whole "un scandal" bores me to tears and i have avoided most posts on the issue right from the start.

  however, from the little i have read i think there are some holes in the defense of the society you have provided on this issue.

The UN business is well known in my cong as we have a very vocal population of “born again” individuals who want to discuss the UN business every time someone calls at their door , so the brothers are well informed on the situation and the WTS defence. We even had a 20 minute "local needs" on the subject. I don’t know how well known it is amongst the JW population at large.
  
  A 20-minute local needs. Wow. By "well-informing the brothers" do you mean that the well-know library card excuse letter was read out to them? I mean the one that was circulated to congregations around the world? Or did they get a special letter from the Society and if so could you please post it here or relate its contents?

  i can think of loads but the best one that i got to actually see without causing wwiii was when two friends were staying over.

  one of them said get him something to eat...so me and his brother went and got an oxo cube and unwrapped it.

  Interesting that you arrived at this conclusion. I recently got a job where I'm required to make myself familiar with the very basics of molecular biology and my experiences are contrary to yours. No, what I know won't make me a biologist, but it was revealing for me to find out how many aspects of molecular genetics can only be explained in terms of some theory of common origin of living organisms.

  Too good to be true, IMHO. I'd love to see poor JWs preaching imminent doom and then trying to wiggle out of it again.
