i've just read an intersting article on the flood to do with dates and whether is was truly global or a regional flood.. http://www.commentarypress.com/essay-flood.html.
my father used to be an elder for many years and the flood was one of the things that made him walk away not just from the jw but also belief in the bible.
he was hung up on issues like the flood taking place about 3500 bc and how that fit in with the pyramids.. i don't know much about egyptian history or the ages of the big pyramids, but his reasoning was if the flood wiped out every human on earth except noah etc then at 3500 bc there were only 8 people on earth.
The smörgåsbord thing = inconsistent eclectism = evasive mixing of research methodologies
We have had a few posters now on this thread come to the same well substantiated (IMO) conclusion, although they've used different terms for this fallacy.

thinking outside the box your turn!
what if in the evolutionary process with the development of the mind, that the ego grew in a wrong or perhaps crooked (fractal) direction,,which merely seemed to caused a momentary glitch which caused the spiecies "man" to "feel separate"(cause by a over active ego) and that the glitch will correct itself after a few thousand years in which the human species no longer sees itself as a separate entity and at peace with the enviroment,,and gone will be his sorrow and suffering because he no longer resists.
you know what i mean,,we all get sick and nobody's perfect,,so why not a over active ego??
Never heard two fractals talking before!

this question seems to be getting thrown around in the earthquake threads, and is asked a lot... so, what is your opinion on why god allows bad things to happen?
also, did you stop believing in god because he allows it?.
i will throw my two-penneth in when i have a little more time tonight.
I guess I wouldn't have problems with God if the Eden tree was the only evil in the world.
Instead, he chose to be slightly more fancy in the assortment of evil we have to deal with in order to appreciate "the gift of free will". From choking to death on a fish bone to dying in a holy war. From failing to overcome a nasty infection with the otherwise wondrous immune system to having your skull crushed in the jaws of a tiger.
God's universe has all sorts of evils you could dream of and they all help you appreciate the gift of free will.
who do some people post things that they did not write and do not give credit to the original source?
so ... maybe you don't know who the original source is.
maybe you got it in an email that has forwarded and then forwarded a zillion times.
Wild_Thing,
If it really irritates you and you think it improper, then PM those people. Unless you know for sure they do it deliberatly. Some may be unaware of it, others have problems with formatting, etc. etc. Of course there are also blatant cases.

LOL @ Blondie. Now I understand all the disclaimers at the beginning of your WT study threads.
i have heard many creationists say: "just look at the universe!
there are so many things about it that have to be just right for it to be able to support life.
an interesting point, so i did a bit of basic math:.
If I win in a lottery, does that mean it was designed for me to win it at a specific time and place?
bible truths revealed:.

those that seek an understanding of the scripture will be assisted according to that which is written in the bible.

Is that you Brownboy?
the nativity traditions in the synoptic gospels are interesting for their reliance on ot exegetical traditions.
most of the narratives of jesus in the gospels are based on such interpretive traditions, modeling events of jesus' life on various texts of the greek ot.

Thanks for the comment.
Narkissos,
And if some are still concerned about "events," suffice to add to that Quirinius' census occurred about 10 years after Herod's death.
I'm not all that stubbornly concerned. I simply like to learn facts as the one you've just presented from posters such as you, peacefulpete of Leolaia. Sorry for my generalizing digression, Leolaia.
