New 607 info?
by startingover ini just discovered something i have not seen anywhere before.
i was looking at my old "all scripture inspired" book, and i say old because it was the first edition from 1963 and i had used it for years.
according to the wt cd there were revisions in 1983 and 1990. i came across this little goodie under the book of daniel.

yes, stecka, i'm rebellious, please help me becoming a good witness again...
but first you'd have to explain a few things. one of them is the 607 issue, and there's a lot of information around already (also bible-backed), so no need to write all that down again.
another one is last weeks great wt-study article (and other scripture-screwing): how could someone get from "someone went (maybe even physically) to 3rd heavens and saw something unsayable" - to - "paul had a vision of our centuries congregations". don't know about you, but "bible-based" "explainations" like these make me feel like vomiting... -

as to the publishing work: you are not alone...
the international bible society for example (www.ibs.org) offers literature in more than 600 languages all over the world. -

the mere fact of someone attacking the original christian congregation happened some 1950 years ago. also, the disciple-making work was being done by then. even jesus said, that generation wouldnt pass... well, it passed. and 1950 years of "the end being near" is a bit long, aint it?

ahh.. ok
1.) i haven't left "the truth"...
2.) where does matthew write about publishing literature in 400 languages? catholic and protestant missionaries were making disciples of all nations hundrets of years before russel even came in contact with the adventists.
3.) i'm not afraid of using the bible... just gimme a topic and we can talk bible talk. -

James 4:5 -- A Quote From a Lost Apocryphal Scripture
by Leolaia inin defense of its fundamentalist approach to the bible and especially its belief that the bible is the word of god and inerrent, the wts frequently quotes from 2 timothy 3:16: "all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness".
we must've heard this scripture thousands of times as witnesses.
the words from eldad and modad quoted in hermas, vis.

Isn't there a possibility that not all of "the Dead Sea Scrolls" have been made public and that Israel is with-holding a lot of the books?
aahh, a conspiracy... but no, why would they? the jewish religion (wich shouldn't be confused with "israel") is one of the most tolerant when it comes to "different views". if you want to find some lost or hidden scriptures you better search the vatican. ;-) -

first of all i want to thank leolaia for the really great articles on these topics(i'm a history freak). thanks also to narkissos for really great insight.
what i wanted to add on "pseudepigrapha": as pointed out this also applies to many canonical books. but what's even more interesting, is, that sometimes the writer himself didn't steal an authoritative name, but the book was attributed to some author because of style or tradition AT A LATER DATE BY OTHERS. this applies for example to the ODES OF SOLOMON. -

Getting fed up with fading
by Pole inok, so here is my story in put a nutshell: .
1. i first had "nagging doubts" about the borg some three years ago (after 6 years of being a faithful witness).
2. i stopped avoiding "apostate" internet sites some 1.5 years ago, which really helped me confirm my doubts.

Last week I started growing a beard!!!
LOL... i stepped through most of the steps you mention, but having a beard already when still being a zealot.
i think the reason why he asked your report is, that after some 4 or 5 months of not giving them a report, you are considered inactive. -

interpretation of the bible as a whole
aaah.... there IS no "bible as a whole". there never was. there always was a bunch of independent scrolls and they grew over time.
when there were too many, some guy thought it would be a good idea to throw a few of them out. he wrote a list of sacred books/letters, probably sacred books/letters and not so sacred books/letters. but just about everyone got him wrong...
some thought, the probably sacred books would not be sacred, some thought the completely heretic books would be inspired (revelation for example) and it was a big chaos, so every religious group by then decided to use their own selection of books again. later they called it canon.
in the 16th century the catholic church confirmed it's canon of 72 books. luther was with jerome and used 66 "inspired" books but also translated the other "deuterocanonical" books. the later protestant religions, jw's are one of them, use the luther tradition. there are MANY other canons.
