I still say it's unvarifiable crap to believe mohammed just because he believed he was decendant of Ishmael.
it's also "unvarifiable (sic again) crap" to believe jesus, just because some believed he was the son of god...
according to the bible esau was the father of the edomites, not of the arabs. and according to the bible god's angel saved ishmael in the desert. nothing about hate here.
i'd suggest to check a few facts before claiming something next time. just because you repeat something over and over again doesn't make it any truer.

I need three good questions!
by Dansk in.
if it were possible to get a jw to actually listen to us, which three good questions do you reckon might get him/her to sit down and think?

there are some good questions already here. one really important thing is to try to answer the questions JW style, before you use them in real life. it's better to ask only one good question than 20 good questions along with one bad question. if one question goes wrong, they'll pick on it. they'd say, "see, and all your other questions can be answered in a similar way". one bad argument destroys all of your good ones. thus you have to be very selective.
never mention any ex-jw literature, never mention the internet by the way. that's why the 607 B.C. theme comes in so handy - because even the history books the society uses differ on that (go check the insight books on sources). only use questions you could have stumbled over while studying the bible or reading the watchtower literature. that's the only way a JW would listen to you... because most of them have at least a few doubts. -

yes, barbarians. the self-appointed "finest people of the world" should know better in the 21st century.

heathen, could you please explain why you think a 7th century religion is worse than a "1st century" religion?

My argument has been and still is that the God of the old testament and the God of Islam are not the same God.
sorry, buddy, that's not an argument, that's a simple unbacked statement. but i guess that's what faith is all about, am i wrong?
as for judaism: it's not your belief that matters, it's still the facts. and judaism didn't start with the mosaic law, yeah, even the name "jew" was made a lot later.
it seems you have a hard time understanding the difference between jews and israelites. and arabs are considered as semitic as israelites, assyrians and canaanites. -

It's time for a court order!
i don't think that's extreme... it's pretty valid to do that. i remember some people going to court because of some unacceptable door-to-door incidents, and this actually makes people in and outside of the org think. publishers are more careful after such a thing - making preaching even less attractive than it is anyway. -

@heathen:
judaism as we know it was not around until about the same time chrisianity was invented. in the 16 century B.C. there was no judaism. there was a canaanite people with some boss god called jhwh along with several other gods. after the babylonian exile esra started the pharisee tradition, but after the final destruction of the temple in 70 A.D. there was no way to continue traditional worship, thus a new judaism had to be created.
turn it as you want, allah and jhwh are two names for the very same god (arab. aLaH[im] == hebr. eLoH[im]). islam, christianity and judaism come from the very same roots. and they actually got a very similar ruleset.
i'd go even further: if mormons and JWs are considered christian, you could call islam christian too. and it's definately older than protestantism. -

uh oh, that's bad! 539 B.C. was the fall of babylon, not the destruction of the temple. it was 587/586 B.C. when jerusalem was destroyed. you're obviously not a golfer!

Can a person believe that the Bible contradicts itself and be a Christian?
by booker-t ini am having some conflicting feelings lately that i need some advice on.
i am starting to believe that the bible contradicts itself but at the same time i love jehovah and jesus and have hope for some form of eternal life.
that will never change but i have never believed in the bible 100% coming from god.

well said, mungo. when genesis falls, the new testament crumbles too.
that said, it's probably not bad to be a liberal christian, but it aint any better than being a taoist, buddhist or whatever... and it's simply not necessary. when you find out that either there is/are no god/s, or there is/are one/some, but he/she/they don't care to enlighten us, you can live life even more intensively.
