From which daughter of Eve do you come from?
by DannyBloem ini found this interesting.... a persons maternal ancestry is traced by mitochondrial dna or mtdna for short.
both men and women possess mtdna, but only women pass it on to their children.. so we all inherit our mtdnas from our mothers, but not from our fathers.
your mother inherited it from her mother, who inherited it from hers, and so on back through time.

Could the Spirit world have helped your exit from the religion?
by free2beme inboy, this might be that can of worms i meant to keep closed!.
i was thinking about something though and wondered what your thoughts might be.
if you believe in angels, the spirit realm, spirit guides or spirits of loved ones that have crossed.

yes, the spirit world helped me losing my religion. because the religion suggests the existence of spirits while i don't see any.

Philosophy - is it worth the bother?
by Abaddon ini fully admit to only having dabbled in the waters of philosophy up to now.
i kept on being put off by the smell... .
having said that, is there anyone more clued up than me about the subject who can tell me anything that might make me change my mind?.

philosophy, the love of wisdom. that's not a profession to learn, that's the attraction to the art of thinking. and from what i have read, you're good at it.

A Challenge For FunkyDerek... My Experiences With The Afterlife
by FMZ inhey mate, don't mean to pick on you, but i know you are a good sport.
;) to all other non-believers, this thread is also for you..
it seems you always want proof and evidence of some kind of afterlife, but always have a "reasonable explanation" for any evidence put forth.

What is a Bier Contest in Germany?
by toladest inis this a beer drinking or making contest?
i was looking up the name of a dub that i grew up with (not really a friend, more an acquaintance) and his name is on a german web site.
i know it is him because it says where he is from (city and state) and his first name is spelled unusually and his last name is not common.

the contest is about the best beer, but the names list is the jury. and the jury has to taste the beer to vote which is the best one. and to taste it you have to drink it... lots of it ;-)

There were some good things about the organisation...
by Do I Stand Alone? ini have read a number of experiences in this discussion forum and quite frankly, i would have to agree that many, if not all, were pretty terrible experiences if not all together traumatic.
i know that my personal 9-11 tragedy resulted in finding out that the watchtower society was involved with the united nations.
that pretty much said it all as far as my "career" in the organisation was concerned.

Do you have a bulls eye on your forehead
by skyman inthose of you not df'd do you feel like me that i have bulls eye painted on my forhead just waiting for when the borg gets you?

*whistle@whyamihere*
i had a bulls eye there, as long as i still was "ideologist". meaning, that i need to start conversations about what the bible REALLY says and stuff. now that i calmed down and only throw in some arguments here and there, i'm pretty safe. because i don't feel the urge to discuss this kind of stuff with the elders anymore. -

how about genetic manipulation?
by DannyBloem inwhat is your view on it?
(i do not know the dub view, but is it not important for me).
for food: ok. foor animals: ok. for humans: ok

i am pro g.m., i really don't understand why people are afraid of it. i think it might be because of some scifi movies...
and for organic versus g.m. - manipulated plants STILL are organic. you could also slowly manipulate the plant by other means, like crossing it with other plants. genetic manimulation is much faster and offers a lot more possibilities.
the claim/fact list above is pretty biased i'd say. i could also make a list like this:
claim: medicine is necessary to cure diseases.
fact: many deseases could be avoided by sufficient hygiene.
i also never understood why people are so scared about chemistry, when chemical processes are as natural as anything.
