the postcards do not necessarily have to include "proselytizing" contents. what about issues like 607, the UN, some questions about the blood issue or just the link to silentlambs?

Have You Witnessed To JW's With Postcards?
by Honesty insomeone mentioned that since postcards are so quickly read information can be processed by the jw mind before they realise it is from a source that is not pro jw.
have any of you here had any experience sending postcards containing delightful words of truth about the troof?.

The Number One Reason Why I Am Not a "Watchtower Apologist"
by logansrun ina number of people of late have noticed the concilliatory stance i take towards the jehovah's witnesses -- both as individuals and even as an organization.
they have quite rightly pointed out that i appear to "defend" the organization and it's members from attacks that i feel are unwarranted or unnecessary.
too often, i feel, this forum becomes a gripe session in which mighty ex-jw throngs feel the need to paint the organization or individual jws as totally devoid of any good qualities whatsoever.

THERE IS NO JEHOVAH
eh eh eh! should have been "i don't believe in a jehovah".
and i know what you mean. but really, i don't see any good in people led to live a lie. no matter if JWs or not. -

Jonah as Fiction
by Leolaia inthe book of jonah contains one of the most famous stories in the ot: the account of a cowardous prophet who was swallowed whole by a giant fish.
the only other mention of jonah in the ot however is absolutely silent about this remarkable story (2 kings 14:25), and there is much evidence that the book is a late tale written after the babylonian exile.
the book is unique among the twelve minor prophets for being mostly narrative and it has much in common with post-exilic haggada (such as the first-century lives of the prophets, which added considerably to the jonah legend), the "great city" of ninevah is little more than a distant, vague memory (as evidenced by such things as the anomalous title "king of ninevah" and the non-mention of the king's name in jonah 3:6), legendary touches like the giant fish and the magical growth of the castor-oil plant, and especially the late aramaisms rife in the book (such as spynch in 1:5, ht'st "to think" in 1:6, stq in 1:12, mnh in 2:1, and so forth).

in jesus sirach, tobit and 3rd maccabees the jonah story is referred to as factual though. [edited:] or at least jonah is described as historical figure.
[edited to add the quotes:]

4 Go into Media my son, for I surely believe those things which Jonas the prophet spake of Nineve, that it shall be overthrown; ...
8 And now, my son, depart out of Nineve, because that those things which the prophet Jonas spake shall surely come to pass.
3 maccabees 6
8 And Jonah, wasting away in the belly of a huge, sea-born monster, you, Father, watched over and restored unharmed to all his family. -

funny thing is that they can say "jehovah doesn't look at the appearance" and "wearing a tie is appropriate" in one breath.

Thou shall not kill? Makes no sense?
by free2beme ini always thought, when reading the bible, that the commandment "thou shall not kill" made no sense.
after all, the god who supposely gave it commanded his own people to kill.
so i wonder, did that god actually mean, "thou shall not murder?
