- "obviously": we don't have any arguments to back it up, but it supports our doctrines
- "apostates": people who left "the truth" and are now "spreading lies", don't listen to them, if they are on tele, switch channels.
- "true christians": JWs
- "the world": everything else (and it's all bad!)
- "waiting on jehovah": swallow your doubts and wait til brooklyn releases a watchtower with an explaination. if they don't, continue waiting.

Help me out with a list of loaded language JW buzz words
by Check_Your_Premises ini am preparing a summary of methods to use to build rapport with the jw cult member.
the summary will attempt to follow the methods used in the strategic interactive approach, which is described in steven hassan's book, releasing the bonds.. one of the things a person who has a loved one in a cult has to do is understand the loaded language.
as we all know the jw have just such lexicon of buzzwords.

some advice about meeting door to door jws
by Hepzibah inhi im new here and found this forum via a search engine - i am a practicing christian and the other day i had a knock on the door - got into an interesting conversation with two jws and as i didnt have much time invited them back - in the meantime they had posted a booklet on the trinity or there version of it and when they came back the novice had been replaced by someone who had obviously had a lot more experience at talking to christians
i didnt want to get into a bible debate - and asked them about their salvation and how they knew they were saved - but they just seemed to be reading from a different script than me - as much as i tried we ended up batting bible texts back and forth
anyway to sum up - they want to come back to do a bible study on any topic i choose

you know, they prepared what they are going to tell you. no matter what you say, they'll keep switching back to their topic. after all, that's the topic they prepared.

is religon-bashing ok, and if yes, when?
by googlemagoogle intoday i read "doubtfully your's" comment on wiccans and i was shocked.
i wanted to reply immediately about tolerance and to respect another religion.
then i thought about him having a sister, smoking pot and presenting herself as pagan giving him some bad impression (prejudice?

but where do you draw the line? there are things you wouldn't say about jews to not be viewed as antisemite. do the same taboos apply to other religions? JWism for instance?

today i read "doubtfully your's" comment on wiccans and i was shocked. i wanted to reply immediately about tolerance and to respect another religion.
then i thought about him having a sister, smoking pot and presenting herself as pagan giving him some bad impression (prejudice?) about wiccans. in his experience the wiccan belief is BS and he doesn't care sharing this experience publicly.
i also thought that many (actually most) on this board wouldn't mind bashing the JW religion. i don't mind either. but i always have been very careful (tolerant in my view) when talking about other religions like islam, buddhism, satanism, hinduism, catholicism, wicca or the jewish religion. now i wonder why i don't apply the same standard on JWism.
what do you think, is it ok to NOT respect a religion? [WT-MODE]please back up your response[/WT-MODE] -

The next step in chipping away at Mr.elder relative
by SeymourButts inso, as you know, last weekend i provided some info to an elder relative of mine regarding 607. .
i am going to give him a couple weeks to research everything i brought up to him.
i don't expect him to fully accept what i said, but there is no doubt that there will be some questions in his head as to why things don't add up.

God and the Devil are both a bit evil
by Bas ini'd like to think of god and satan as the same power...if you like, god can be evil and the devil can be good.
it probably doesn't make much sense to you but i think as reality is as grey as it is (and not black/white), then probably the higher power(s) are/is too.
i honestly believe that thinking in terms of devil/god is not very fertile thing to do.

hi witness of jah, welcome to the board!
thanks for your eye-opening comment ;-) there are some things to think about though:
- the bible shows more than enough "god is on a killing spree"
- thus people serve jehovah because of fear, not because of love
- if god is the waterglass and we KNOW from the bible he's not all good (which is the poison in your parable), we shouldn't drink it. so stay away from him.
- as i said before, if satan is one of the most intelligent beings and dragged a huge part of angles with him, hes got to see some chance to win a battle against god. so there's no way to tell who's on the winning side.
i'd appreciate your feedback on this. -

Contradictions and NWT
by cheeseman ini have 2 witnesses coming to my door in the near future.
they left me the "why you can trust the bible" tract which claims there are no contradictions in the bible.
so, in preparation i looked out some examples on the internet.

yeah, from the gospels:
- on which day did jesus die (john vs. synoptics)
- which year was jesus born (luke vs. luke vs. matthew) -

don't list too much, cheeseman... and DON'T use the "can god be seen" one. they'll say it was an angel representing god.
"The sins of the father" is very good. because it's a clear contradiction. also to the paradigm of a just and loving god. stick to only that to show the bible contradicts. there is no answer to that so far, afaik. and there are plenty of texts that support it, you'll find a list on the skeptic's annotated bible.
the only thing they can respond is, "we'll have to do some research on this and explain it to you next time". but next time you can show them another contradiction.
don't bombard them with bible verses, it would be too much for them. -

i'd like to think of god as responsible for all the evil stuff that happens, and satan as responsible for all the fun stuff. after all, god forbids all the fun stuff in his book.

that's a great strategy. go for it.
the un-scandal doesn't always work, this probably very much depends on where you live. it didn't work on me when i first read about it. i just thought something along "the brothers sure know what they are doing".
it's a much better approach to show that they are not honest about their past. because that shakes the whole "holy slave class" dependance, after that you can come along with the UN stuff if you want. because if they are not honest about their past, how can i be sure they are honest about what they are doing now behind the scenes.
making a jw wake up is all about destroying his belief in the slave-doctrine. when the seed begins to grow i'd offer an alternative (and more logical) exegesis of matthew 24:45 / luke 12:42...
