all joking aside, i actually like being left alone. i try to remain as inconspicuous in my life as i can. on the rare occasions where i am the center of attention, i revel in it, but then after everyone gets tired of me (which doesn't take long), i go right back to my comfort zone over there in the corner.
so i am being announced (the new way) as being df'd tonight.
me and my ex--who wont show up so i will be there all alone.
i am still unsure of how i feel about the whole thing.

whatever you decide, just make sure you decide it (don't just go because you feel like you're supposed to). i've always felt that those announcements were unnecessarily humiliating and the congregation gets a sort of sick pleasure out of it...

religion is just a label and means nothing to me. i don't hate christians because some of them piss me off and i don't hate germans because some of them were nazis. i extend hate and disrespect on an individual basis. it's more meaningful that way.

As for methuselah, consider the fact that it has been argued that the flood might not have been global, but rather local. if the flood was local, then it would make sense that he survived the flood.
yeah, that's true, but read literally (without bias), the flood wasn't local and methusaleh had to have truly had a rough last year.
but like you said, if a person believes that the bible is inerrant, methusaleh and the flood can be danced around in any number of ways.

Who cares if these little beasts vanish from the world anyway?
all of the animals that eat them. unfortunately, we got that stinkin food chain thing to worry about. i say, leave the delicate balance of the ecology alone or you risk exterminating yourself as well.
so i guess my first wish would be to re-establish the organisms that greendawn wiped out. and tetrapod nailed my second wish already.
many of us here were born into the jw cult and so had no real choice in life until we were much older.. however, those of you who actually chose to join the cult and be a jw, can you explain 'why' you wanted to believe 'the troof' that they claimed to have.

i think that cults prey upon a weakness (if you want to look at it that way) or maybe just an area of inexperience. my parents weren't raised in it but they are now diehards. they are by no means stupid (uneducated), or especially gullible people but the witnesses had something that filled some hole that they needed filled or answered some question that they hadn't thought to ask before (or hadn't taken the time to answer for themselves).
if someone has studied the bible thoroughly and does not believe that it is inspired, i don't believe that they would be susceptible to the JWs. but maybe that same person had a weak family life and so they may be more easily indoctrinated by some more naturalistic non-bible believing cult. it's just a matter of what " naiveties" are available to be exploited.
