hey guys,

ok...you know how you always feel better after you've been sick? anyway...
i didn't know this board started out with...umm...a very different attitude towards the JW's. i just read a post titled "WHAT WILL BE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES IN THE NEW SYSTEM" or something like that. crazy. when did things change?
so, anyway, what do you think will be the biggest challenges in the new system?

Seeking clarity regarding Bethel Ministries...
by SwampThing ingood day everyone,.
i have been reading a number of articles over the weekend from the freeminds website, and have a question regarding bethel ministries.
i seem to remember a number of posts on this forum which led me to believe that bethel was some sort of jw institue of higher learning, saved for the ultra touched anointed.. please help me clear up my misunderstanding.. thanks,.

gotcha...
freeminds.org is not affiliated with the JW's or the watchtower society.
in fact, the JW's forbid the active members from reading such material. so you can see the stand that the watchtower society takes toward articles such as the ones you read. and that's why it's so important that the info you've read be made available to any interested (censorship sucks).
"Bethel Ministries" is not the same thing as 'Bethel' the printing headquarters of jehovah's witnesses.

sorry, i don't know what i'm doing here...
i was just wondering if post-JW therapy works. i have never been in therapy or counseling of any kind ever, but i really think i need something. i've been depressed before and i feel like it's coming back and coming back strong.
does therapy really help? i'm a guy and thus i have a hard time believing that i can't solve this on my own. i don't know why i'm having such a hard time convincing myself to just go and talk to someone, but i am. if anyone has any good experiences with therapy or felt the same aversion to it that i do, please let me know.
i'm dying here.
thanks -- doogs

bethel is the headquarters for the printing operations. there are branches all over the world but the main bethel is in brooklyn, NY (or at least it was when i left). i guess it's kind of like college but instead of learning, you just work your butt off. i can tell you that it's definitely NOT only for the ultra annointed because even i was out there for awhile. (i'm not ultra annointed...or touched.)

Would You Go Back To A Kingdom Hall For A Funeral or Wedding?

I'm going to share in the joy of seeing a family member or close friend getting married. They don't wanna talk to me, their loss.
yeah, i know what you mean, but i think this is completely different for everyone.
i'm kind of in with TALESIN on this one.
i think it definitely has a lot to do with your personal experience while active with the JW's and also how closely your ties are to the ones doing the shunning. it would be impossible for me to "share in the joy" while everyone is giving me the cold shoulder or even worse, aggressively trying to re-recruit me. that's just not a very joyful experience for me.
for me personally, i feel like seeking out that negativity by showing up where i am unwanted is kind of "playing the game" as well. but again, i think it's just different for everyone. especially if you are inactive versus DA/DF.

Maybe we should go, face them, look them in the eye and let them see we are happy, well-adjusted people, who came to rejoice at a wedding or cry at a funeral of a friend and that they cannot harm us in any way.
i agree, but i think that might be a little idealistic. maybe it's just me, but i don't have a problem with the building, it's the people, especially the atmosphere of their attitude. it's amazing how quickly the past can come rushing back to you when you're right in the the thick of it (and really experiencing that the past has not passed at all for those you'll run into at the funeral/wedding).
i also think that they certainly CAN harm us. depending on how long out we are and how far along we are in the "detox", i think that the pain and memories can come back all too fast if a guard is not maintained.
keeping your distance is maybe not necessarily "shunning them back", but maybe it's more of a personal survival mode.

you know, i think the printed words in watchtower literature is way more terrifying than any picture i've ever seen.
