That quote is a classic. I would not be surprised if whoever wrote it got a whack for it.
maybe they were stoned?
er...i mean...with rocks.
er...i mean...with...umm...forget it.
this is one of my fave quotes from the bizarre wt archives.
it illustrates how underhanded they are.
although this is an ?older?

i just read this and i thought it was hilarious.
it was from time magazine last week.
the article was has tv gone too far:but though the ptc [parent's television counsel] has a loud voice, just whom they speak for is debatable.
cool. i didn't think you were. sometimes my sarcasm doesn't come across quite right in writing.

still I don't like to discourage democracy (or the facade of it)
me neither. but isn't democracy majority rule? of course i think that individual citizens should be allowed a voice, but that voice's ultimate power should be in direct proportion to how many express it. but like you said, america is a democracy in name only. i just thought this was funny and i'd be pissed if i was Fox.

But though the PTC [Parent's Television Counsel] has a loud voice, just whom they speak for is debatable. Last year, in response to viewer complaints, the FCC levied its largest TV fine ever, $1.2 million, against Fox for an episode of the reality show Married by America, which featured strippers covered in whipped cream. The commission said the broadcast had generated 159 letters of complaint. Jeff Jarvis, a former TV critic who writes the blog BuzzMachine.com filed a Freedom of Information Act request to see the letters. Because of multiple mailings, the letters actually came from just 23 people, 21 of whom used a form.
In other words, three people composing letters of complaint precipitated a seven-digit fine.
anyway, i just wanted to share that. the article went on to say that some of these watchdog groups offer snippets of "offensive" content on their websites and then links to form letters so that wouldbe offendees have easy access to the inappropriate content (you know, just in case they missed just what it was they were supposed to be offended about) and a means to complain about it. at least no one can deny that the little guy does indeed still have a voice in this country...

If you're going to start signing these petitions, you might as well throw our entire court system into the toilet. Go ahead and throw away the US Supreme Court. They didn't throw out his decision. You know just because George W Bush was elected and I didn't like it, I didn't start a petition a have him impeached.
heck no. i say, sign away. as has been mentioned, you could have 10 million signatures and it won't change a thing. that's not how our legal system operates. so, if signing a petition makes a person feel better, i say sign away.
i realize that it's entirely possible that i'm seeing things from my own perspective only but i've noticed a increasingly powerful voice speaking for religious thoughts in world politics.
are we seeing a return to a victorian age?
am i just paranoid?
I don't think that all the agnostics and new agers have just disappeared or joined in. They are probably laying low.
bingo. i don't think society is necessarily changing, it's just that fundamentalists have the biggest mouths and recently they've found a nice solid stage to holler from.

If a petition is meaningless, maybe someone can explain how Floridians managed to Save Our Library?
yeah, i see the similarities...oh wait...no i don't.
i signed a petition once to replace the street lights in my neighborhood. and then they were replaced. that doesn't mean that my signature carries great weight; it means that the street lights are (relatively) insignificant.
there are people who have had bad experiences and don't look back.
but many people on this forum remember it and post about it almost, if not, everyday.
personally, i've had my share of bad moments.
Give advice and listen....Don't judge.
great advice.
joker, i don't know if you're currently a JW or not, but i felt as you apparently feel last summer soon after i found this site. this stuff was eating me from the inside out and coming here and reading about JWs everyday was killing me. at the time, i didn't understand how people could keep thinking about the JWs without being swallowed by a life of bitterness. so i stopped coming here for awhile. now i see that it is possible to think about the JWs from more of an academic standpoint and offer a unique perspective to others that are going through the same things that you've successfully beaten.
also, i've realized that it's none of my friggin business what people want to think about or what sites they choose to frequent. and it's not certainly not my place to judge others as "marinating in misery" and "unable to make anyone happy." emotions are what they are and we all do what we need to to get along. it's only when we are unwilling to accept our own emotions that we truly lose ourselves.
our resident pretend-jw-scholar who calls himself "scholar" enjoys justifying lying and misrepresentation by the watchtower society and himself.
the society, out of one side of its collective mouth, recommends not misrepresenting source references, yet out of the other side, goes ahead and does so without hesitation whenever it is convenient.
the society understands that unfair quoting is dishonest.
I am confident that it is only Gruss, Thiel e and Alan F only believe that there is a misrepresentation.
(raises hand)...umm...i think its a misrepresentation too.
Apostates are very desparate people.
